Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting all of this info together in one easy to find place, and many thanks also to Leolaia for the research which I am sure was very time consuming!

Whenever I post to the comments sections of news articles having to do with JW's, I always bring this issue up and mention the 1934 Yearbook as proof. The JW's usually call me a liar, but I again tell them that the information is right there in their own Yearbook, and I encourage them to look it up for themselves in the library at their Kingdom Halls. Many will say that they will get back to me with answers as to why I must be mistaken, but they never actually respond back!-LOL I imagine that many of them were shocked to find that Rutherfraud was indeed very antisemitic as he tried to snuggle up and brown nose to Hitler.

I look forward to directing JW's to this thread so that they can become more informed about the Watchtower's often nefarious past.

SAD news about OOMPA......

just recieved the news a couple of hours ago, and have almost no details.

it happened today or yesterday, he took his own life.

One thing that always struck a chord in me about Oompa was how he always tried cheering other people up when he himself was obviously in so much pain.

His unselfish concern and empathy for others was always evident.

This horrible news hits like a ton of bricks. It's not fair. The Watchtower has taken so many beautiful and brilliant lives away. The Bloodguilty Watchtower and those in charge of it will rue the day when karma comes to settle the score. That day can't come quick enough.

Oompa, I am so sorry that things were so bad for you that you decided to take your own life. I weep for the loss of such a beautiful soul. I know that you are now at peace though.

September 11, 2001- Where were you?

i work at a major airline in the in-flight training department.

i was sitting at the desk on the computer, i kid you not... writing the security (hijacking) curriculum for 2002, when someone came in and told me a plane flew into the wtc.

we all thought it was one of our planes.

Today my thoughts are with those who died on 9/11 as well as the families that are still dealing with the losses that they experienced.

Yurts - Relatively Safe Housing for Earthquake-Prone Areas???

i've always had a fascination for yurts... and i've been wondering - wouldn't these make wonderful homes for earthquake-prone areas with a relatively mild climate?.

We have a very large back yard, and I have actually thought of building a yurt like structure. Living in Texas though, it would get very hot, unless it were insulated well against the heat, and had adequate circulation. I have also thought about a building Tipi or some other unusual type of dwelling. the main purpose would be a rec room type of space, with a jacuzzi and bar set up-(Even though we don't usually drink).

After reading this thread, I am more excited about building something!

have been in the austin area for a little over a week in the midst of trying to start over.

i was df'd recently after being in the truth my entire life.

everyone has abandoned me, and i am lost out here.

Austin has some really neat attractions. For example, every evening during Summer at dusk, over 1.5 million Bats fly out from underneath the Congress Avenue Bridge!!!

There are also lots of downtown music festivals, places to go kayaking and other outdoor sports, open air markets, wine tastings-(There are over 30 vineyards in the area), Rodeos, Indy movie houses, to name only a few. I wonder at times why we chose Dallas instead of Austin! Austin is a really Hip, progressive, Chic city. Chic City, Chic city, Chic city-I dare you to say that 5 times real fast-lol

Hi! I am sorry that you are feeling alone right now. The link below provides some websites of meetup groups in the Austin area for EX JW's. If you don't find anything there, maybe you can put an ad on the Austin Craigslist for finding EX JW friends or others who may share some of the same interests or hobbies that you have.

Many of us here share your pain. I hope that things get better for you soon. If you are finding it hard to cope, you may want to find a therapist in the Austin area who will help you resolve some of your issues. Maybe they will also be able to direct you and help you find some ways to meet others in your area.

I think that there are some posters here that live in the Austin area, and hopefully they will post soon as they too can give you some pointers on living in Austin as well as some fun places to visit.

I wish you the best. Being recently DF'd can be quite traumatic to deal with, especially when you don't have a support system. Make sure that you try to go out and do some things that you enjoy, even if it is just going for a walk, as it will help you get your mind off of things. Explore the area, and I'm sure that you will soon be making friends.

Fark.com is my favorite website news aggregator. It lists all types of news in a humorous way. It also has a fun discussion forum, and the people who are part of the discussion forums are called "Farkers"-lol Yes, I too am a big Farker!

I feel that the story will turn a lot of people off (Or on). It read too much like what you would read in a pornographic magazine. They should have focused more on his problems upon leaving the org, such as how his guilt affected him, how the loss of his friends and family affected him, how his self esteem was lowered, how his parents reacted to the news, how he conquered the shame he felt at first, and how he wrestled with (pun intended) his homosexual feelings in his mind as opposed to everything he was taught about homosexuality while he was in the org. He could have had a good story had he focused on the emotional logistics of his coming out that undoubtedly could have helped others who are in the same situation. Instead, I found the piece to be very embarrassing, and I am Gay myself. (Although the thought of a hairy Cowboy seducing me does make me quiver in my Wranglers-lol)

The length of time that he got is a disgrace. There are people in the USA that have gone to prison for longer than 21 years just for having marijuana.

Justice did NOT get served in this case, and if I was a family member of one of the victims I would be infuriated. At the very least, he needs to rot in prison for the rest of his life, without access to anything such as TV, Internet, sports, etc. Prison should not be a comfortable environment for those types of creatures who murder others in cold blood.
