Vets were generally treated badly when they came home. That was very unfair and many of those vets who survived the war came home to a hopeless future. Anyone who thinks that PTSD is no big deal just doesn't understand how fragile human beings are. War is a destroyer one way or another.
Yes, it is very sad that our Vets do not get the care that they deserve when they return home. It is absolutely shocking to see the number of Vets that succomb to suicide from PTSD, and the general feeling that they are not wanted. Very Sad. Every time I see a Vet or Soldier in uniform, I always make it a point to shake their hand and thank them. A couple of them have even gratefully accepted a brotherly hug.

An American soldier dies every day and a half, on average, in Iraq or Afghanistan. Veterans kill themselves at a rate of one every 80 minutes. Bless our Soldiers who fight to keep us free as a nation.

In many cases, looters are taking other people's possessions, leaving them with nothing. People need anything from food to underwear (Literally).
In many cities, there are food drives being held, and all you have to do is drop off canned goods, or any other non-perishables you may have. Anything will be needed and appreciated by those who have absolutely nothing left except the clothes on their backs.
If donating money, be sure to check with the better business bureau or look for online reviews of organizations to make sure they are legit, as there are unfortunately many scammers out there who will keep the money for themselves.
It's been a couple of weeks since this disaster, and with so many other things going on in the news, it is easy to forget that there are those who still need help. If you can't afford to give anything, please consider keeping these people in your thoughts and prayers, as well as all others who are suffering from calamities world wide.

Yes. I used to believe it with my whole heart and soul, and would have died for them, no questions asked. Scary how a cult can brainwash someone into dying for them if need be. The control that they do have over people is truly frightening.

What more would you suggest the federal government do on behalf of the gay demographic?
A biggie would be the opportunity to have survivorship rights in the same way that straight married couples are afforded. It's scary knowing that if I died, or vice versa, my Partner of almost 11 years could have everything taken from him. I've personally known of 2 couples who had been together for many years, and when one of them died, family came in and took everything that they had built and bought together, leaving the surviving partner without a home, or any of the possessions they had bought together over the course of their relationship.
The sad thing is that one of the couples even had a will, but since their relationship wasn't considered valid, the opposing family was able to get everything when they contested the will because they claimed that since they were family, they had more rights to the belongings. Had their "Union" been legally recognised, it would have been harder for the family to take everything for themselves, leaving the partner out cold.
Other times, when there is no family, and a person dies, the government can claim that person's estate as their own, because the surviving partner is not considered legal as a husband and wife would be.
Another biggie is insurance coverage for Gay couples. Married couples are afforded the opportunity to claim each other on health insurance, yet we are not able to claim our partners.
Another is tax benefits. Straight married people can file jointly and get tax benefits, yet we can't.
The above are just 3 things. There are many more that most people don't think about. Even though it may be rarely enforced, it is still illegal in some states for me to love my Partner and to demonstrate my love in private behind closed doors in our own home!
Ever legally been denied a place to rent specifically because you are gay? I have.
Most of us don't want extra rights, we just want the same rights that others get, nothing more, nothing less. Just like most others, we want to be counted as equals, and afforded the same benefits that other married couples get.

Sab, that was a very good opening post!!! The only thing I have a problem with is this:
He will cater to a specific demographic, like gays
He ain't done crap for the Gay demographic. The other that you mentioned, yes, but the Gay one, no. Just about every Gay person I know has seen through his lies. Just because he may have thrown us a pre-gnawled bone in a four year period does not mean he is concerned for us, he just wanted to try to pacify us to shut us up.
The rest is pretty much spot on in regards to how most honest and normal people feel.
