It's strange. I look at Actors and I get shocked at how old they are getting, then I look in the mirror and realize that I am aging right along with them!

Hi freydo! Paul Harvey was one of the only radio personalities that I enjoyed listening to at times. I made the link clickable for you so it will be easier.
http://nation.foxnews.com/paul-harvey/2012/03/21/1965-if-i-were-devil-warning-nation-paul-harvey
This speech was broadcast by legendary ABC Radio commentator Paul Harvey on April 3, 1965:
If I were the Devil . . . I mean, if I were the Prince of Darkness, I would of course, want to engulf the whole earth in darkness. I would have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree, so I should set about however necessary to take over the United States. I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good, and what is good is “square”. In the ears of the young marrieds, I would whisper that work is debasing, that cocktail parties are good for you. I would caution them not to be extreme in religion, in patriotism, in moral conduct. And the old, I would teach to pray. I would teach them to say after me: “Our Father, which art in Washington” . . .
If I were the devil, I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull an uninteresting. I’d threaten T.V. with dirtier movies and vice versa. And then, if I were the devil, I’d get organized. I’d infiltrate unions and urge more loafing and less work, because idle hands usually work for me. I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. And I’d tranquilize the rest with pills. If I were the devil, I would encourage schools to refine yound intellects but neglect to discipline emotions . . . let those run wild. I would designate an athiest to front for me before the highest courts in the land and I would get preachers to say “she’s right.” With flattery and promises of power, I could get the courts to rule what I construe as against God and in favor of pornography, and thus, I would evict God from the courthouse, and then from the school house, and then from the houses of Congress and then, in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion, and I would deify science because that way men would become smart enough to create super weapons but not wise enough to control them.
If I were Satan, I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg, and the symbol of Christmas, a bottle. If I were the devil, I would take from those who have and I would give to those who wanted, until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And then, my police state would force everybody back to work. Then, I could separate families, putting children in uniform, women in coal mines, and objectors in slave camps. In other words, if I were Satan, I’d just keep on doing what he’s doing.
Paul Harvey, Good Day.

I Used To Hate Gays!

DubR, your candid honesty is very refreshing! I'm glad that you came to realize that (most) Gay people are decent, have good hearts, and are basically like everyone else. I'm Gay, and was raised in the Org. by two very homophobic parents who literally compared me to a murderer or rapist when they found out that I was Gay. Growing up, I was taught to hate myself, and that same hate stuck with me for many years in the form of self abuse (the bad kind, not the good kind-lol). After leaving the Org. it took years of positive self affirmation to get to the point of not wanting to damage myself even though I still suffer the occasional relapse. It appears that many Jehovah's Witnesses have more hate in their hearts than they do love, and once a person leaves, it often takes years to deprogram all of the negativity.
I'm sorry that you did not have a chance to get to know your Step Brother before he died. It must be hard to lose a sibling that way. I've lost an Uncle and several friends to AIDS, but to lose a Brother like you did must have been really difficult for you, and the teasing you endured from your Sister probably made you feel worse.
In regards to Atheists being more accepting than Christians, I guess it all depends. There are people who call themselves Christian, yet they have a lot of hate within themselves. On the other hand, there are Christians who base their feelings and beliefs on love. The same can be said for Atheists. There are some really good, loving, and empathetic Atheists, yet there are some that are complete ying-yangs. I guess it all depends on the person and what is in their hearts. I went from "Christian" JW to Agnostic to Atheist and now am back to acknowledging a higher power in the Universe, but, other than my time with the JW's, I don't feel that my personal viewpoints have been affected by my beliefs in that higher power as compared to believing in none at all. I hope that makes sense...
Take care,
CJ

What are you Thankful for???
by ohiocowboy ini am thankful for my partner of almost 11 years, and am thankful for the friends that i have made on the board, which include, but are not limited to:.
snowbird, broken promises, glander, mr and mrs. rabbit, big tex, nina, elsewhere, lady lee and all others i have had a chance to know.. i am thankful for our humble home, and am thankful that i have been able to fill it with furnishings and trinkets of yesteryear, things made from people that have been passed from generation to generation over the course of 200 plus years.. i'm thankful that we have enough food to eat, and that we are able to feed the countless raccoons, possums, birds, squirrels, slugs, snails, reptiles and every other living creature that passes our doorsteps and yard.. i am thankful that i had my little girl for 14-1/2 years before she died.
even though i still grieve for her on a daily basis, i am glad that i was able to share with her and give her the same love that she showed me while she was alive.. i am thankful that we are able to have enough to sponsor 3 children in africa and south america every month, so that they too can eat and have much needed medical care.. i am thankful that the latest overseas fight didn't end in a world war.. what things are you thankful for??

Wild Turkey-Yum! One of my Uncle's traditions is to pass around a bottle during the Holidays, and everyone takes a swig til it's gone! I'm glad that you have family, and the guns to help protect them if needed!
Hope you had a great day!!!

Good evening, Loz!
Beings able to see, hear, speak, smell & taste.
Yes. Things to be thankful for that we don't often think about until we find someone who sadly doesn't have one or more of these abilities.
We may not be the richest but we're very happy and doing ok
Another very good point. Money does not always buy happiness!
I'm glad that you have your Husband and In Laws to share your love with, and am happy that you are enjoying your education!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I wish you a great Holiday season!

Finally Awake, Cheers! I am glad that you have family that accepts you and that you are thankful for them too! It truly is something to be especially thankful for, as there are many who don't have family due to shunning from Watchtower teachings. Thank you!
P.S. I love your Sparlock avatar!

Howdy YKnot! Thank you for the warm wishes! You mentioned that you are thankful for a Future. That is a really good one to add to the list! Not being a JW anymore allows us to have a future based on anything we want it to be, and not what a few grumpy old men tell us it should or will be! Sanity is another good one, but unfortunately I lost mine long ago, so I can't be thankful for something that I don't have anymore-lol
D, hello to you! Yes, we as Americans do have a lot to be thankful for!
Have a great Holiday!
