  I found this fascinating, I heard this on the local news and then looked it up on the Americares website:

  Imagine, being able to send almost 3000 dollars worth of medicine to asia for a 100 dollar donation. Pretty incredible work that the do.

  but the same thing happened during the crisis in the caribbean (haiti etc) a few months back.

  true. most people who give don't like to publicize it. You can't know what your fellow posters here have done/are doing.

  I didn't even see Sassy's post...threads move so fast here it's hard to keep up. I've been seeking out posts on the tragedy to respond to them and somehow missed that one. I will look for it now.

  Please don't judge others by the responses. many may have missed the post too and have likely already donated but don't want to say where or how much because they don't want any attention for just doing the right thing.

  when i read of the many natural calamities that have killed billions of people over the centuries i wonder if god is interested at all?

  when i see the importance that the bible makes of just one death of god's sons, when he was resurrected and given a higher position just 3 days later, what about all those millions of human sons.. i guess we are like an ant hill to god, if you happen to step on it, who cares.. ken p.

  okay you guys here is my story.....it might be a lil' long winded, but please bear with me....it's interesting.... well i have been away for 8 years...i stopped when i was 17 and i'm 25 now.

  it all started when i became a non baptized publisher at age 14. i was a very good speaker/reader.

  the elders were waiting for me to get baptized and encouraged me to do so.

  They ruin childrens lives.I have been told by both my parents"well at least you werent molested"-because they had been.What kind of statement is that to make to your kid.I have since cleared up many of these issues with my parents,but I still dont think they'll ever understand what they did to our family.My older sister{25}is stuck in a crappy marriage she was forced into by herself,my parents and the religion-clearly brainwashed.My younger sister(18)from what I hear is very confused and cant bring herself to leave this crap,probly for fear of losing her "friends"...........Again,i tend to rant,sorry about that.........more to come i guess

  welcome STP, I hope that your sister won't be stuck in that marriage forever...and that your other sister will find her way out too. I am so sorry for all you've been through. I was 'born in' too and can relate to your post a lot.

  I feel sad for your parents too, having both been molested, that is just awful. What a rotting mess hides beneath the clean cut exterior image of JW's.

  just had to agree with that earlier post.

  I feel sad for you D...I hope that you do your research before getting into the pool...just know that if you change your mind about being a JW later (if you find another kind of belief system that fits your philosophies better) there is no graceful way to leave without losing everyone in your life that is JW.

  Please stick around D and read, read, read.

  Asian tragedy: not the "end of the world"...

  as i told my mother once, exagerating a little, they love when tragedies like these happen, as these seem to validate the beliefs they hold so dear.

  as tragic and sad as these events in asia are, it's not any signs of times; it's a natural ocurrence that humankind has to learn and prepare to.

  My mother, all week, keeps droning "we're all going to die if Jehovah doesn't step in and bring Armageddon...they're getting us ready, it's going to happen any moment now...you better get right with Jehovah before the end comes."

  so i got a different haircut and switched hair products (the brothers didn't like the shine the pomade put on my hair)...but the texture of my hair stayed the same....go figure....I've never seen my father so disappointed in me. (but he didn't give a damn about any other aspect in my life)

  this pretty much sums up how screwed up the priorities of the average JW parent are...glad you got out and found happiness, Snake. I'm glad you found your way here.

  Yeah, I never got the beard thing either. I always wondered too about the OT scripture (forget where it is, I've blocked most of the bible reading I did out of my mind now) about the sons and daughters wearing earrings.

  Always did think guys look hot in an earring LOL :)
