  oh dear lord! and i remember on the first battlestars when they only let the women fly the vipers after all the guys got the spaceflu or something i did meet dirk benedict at a sci fi con about three years ago, and he still looks great! must be that wacky macrobiotic diet (i couldn't stick to that if my life depended on it lol)...i told him he was my first crush in kindergarten and he laughed and thought it was funny. when i told him that my sister had said she and her best friend (5th grade at the time) wanted to have a 'double space wedding' with him and apollo, he signed the book i bought her "we better hurry on that wedding, i'm getting old!" lol

  what about gil gerard doing something called, what was it, "Fish cops?"!!!!!!!! oh how far one falls so fast ROFLMAO

  leolaia we must be close to the same age, i was third grade when buck was on tv lol

  recently, an article appeared in broadcasting and cable magazine concerning the show "who wants.

  to be a millionaire?".

  apparently, the show isn't having as much success in russia because "people over.

  unfortunately, i found that i ended up in circles of 'friends' that were the same way outside the org, force of habit. now i can recognize, and weed out, anyone who can't celebrate my successes with me, as i celebrate theirs with them.

  geez. how blatant the use of guilt by them is to me now that i'm out.

  if i were still a drone, i'd read 'is that the healthy view?' and see "you're sick, because you don't want to do more in the service of our great god."

  ugh, i think i'm going to be sick. no wonder there is such rampant depression among jws. if you start to try to have any kind of life at all, they just slam you down again...

  Did You Know A "Bad" Elder or Circuit Overseer???

  was there ever a person that you just "knew" to be a "bad guy"?

  i knew a co. his name was [edit] angelacos.

  he loved to go into congregations and remove elders.

  i recently snuck a read of the km newsletter, which talked about assembly preparation.

  aside from how ridiculous it is that they have to tell people not to push and shove (duhhh), i thought the quotes seemed a little, well, hokey.

  i don't have it with me, so i can't quote it, but it was what i can guess is a commonly cited compliment: that the hotel manager/police/venue host said they are "thrilled to have jehovah's people" with them because "your people are so joyful" and so on.

  Exemplary Conduct at Hotels: In most cases, hotel personnel are very impressed with the orderliness, good manners, and cleanliness of Jehovah?s Witnesses. One manager, when speaking about Witness families who stayed at his hotel, said: "The children of Jehovah?s Witnesses are the best children I?ve ever seen! They are dressed like ladies and gentlemen; they are polite, courteous, and well-mannered; and they have not caused any problem whatever. You are really to be complimented on your youngsters. We have enjoyed having your children here." Comments like these are readily forthcoming because those dealing with us can see the love and respect that exist among Jehovah?s people

  Has this happened to anyone?

  so my mother opens the door for a discussion (via email) and i totally freeze up.

  i find it almost impossible to tell her how i feel about the jw religion.

  when i finally figure out what i want to say, she completely dismisses my thoughts.

  honey, i've given up trying to make any of them understand.

  they're still brainwashed, they filter out the facts that they are hearing and they cling to the delusions that they've been fed.

  only when someone is ready can they see the 'truth about the Truth'.

  i wish you hope, happiness and peace. believe me, all my family is still 'in' (though one sister is 'inactive' and one brother, never baptized but has the beliefs). i know something of what you're going through, it's hell, and i hope things get easier to deal with in time.

  What effect did, being called "Brother or Sister" have on you?

  i remember a month ago, receiving a slip at my door, saying that the memorial is this coming sunday, and it was signed by an elder, saying "your brother" elder so and so.

  it was as if he and i were at the same level by writting "your brother".

  the first reaction i had, seeing "your brother", acted as if we had a special bond, with a responsibility attached to it.. do you think that being called "brother or sister" is a way of manipulating you, a way of getting more out of you?

  i sure as hell know the effect it had on my sister! she swore that after hearing from birth that all the boys in the congregation were here 'brothers' that she could never marry one of them, it would feel incestuous.

  and she never did.

  i was at a funeral about a year after my df-ing (family wasn't happy to see me, either) and someone bumped into me and said "oh, excuse me sister"! i nearly puked on his shoes.
