3 babies contract Herpes becaue of a religious ritual

i heard a very sad news item this morning on the way to work.. in upstate new york, a rabbi has been ordered to stop performing bris, using his mouth to suction the blood after 3 boys tested postive for herpes after receiving a bris from the same rabbi.. 2 of the boys a very sick and one has died.

apparently herpes can be deadly on the new ammune system of babies.. does anyone know anthing about this religious ritual - why would a rabbi use his mouth to suction blood from the baby?

How could any parent do that to their child by choice???!!! It reminds me of the female genital mutilation that is still going on in parts of the world.

I too am...speechless. How could anyone let someone put their mouth on...I think I'm going to be sick, seriously. This is why I hate religion in general, if you go back far enough, it's all got some pretty seriously sick s*** going on.

I honestly thought I had heard it all when it came to sex abuse in religion...

hello it's been a long time since i was here just needed some input please from all loving parents...would you rather your daughter be:

1. married to a guy who's not really that great (history of having lotsa women, irresponsible) but seems to love/like your daughter.

2. be gay (with woman who is quite good, responsible and everything but - a woman...).

I don't have to think hard about this at all. I have a daughter.

Nothing she could ever do would make me stop loving her. A mother's love, a father's love...should be unconditional.

I want my daughter to have a healthy life, free of addictions and suffering...I want her to follow her dreams, and be who she was born to be. She does not belong to me, she was born as the person she was meant to be. Her personality was already in there, I truly believe it. A parent can guide and encourage and nurture a child, but who they are at their heart is there from birth.

I want my daughter to grow up and be with someone who will love her, treat her with respect, and build a life with her. If that person is a woman, so be it. If it's a man, that's fine too.

I love her. period. her orientation whatever it turns out to be will not be all of who she is, just another part of her life like the color of her eyes. It just is.

I am sorry for your pain...wish I could give you a hug...

Anyone vegetarian and why??????????

i'm not vegetarian.

being italian and brought up on the mediterranian diet i tend to eat a lot of fruit, vegetables, cheese, pasta, rice and some meat.. i'm just curious to know who here is vegeterian and why?????.

Oh, in my heart I am such a vegetarian.

I read the PETA website and weep, just cannot help it. I don't want to harm any animals, I want to be vegan.

The problem is when I give up meat, within a month I get incredibly run down. My already bad health takes a dive, and I have absolutely no energy. I have tried soy stuff and all the 'fake ground beef" and all and it was great for a month and then suddenly, I couldn't digest it. I got very ill after eating boca burgers and or morningstar farms stuff I forget which, and I tried it again eliminating other stuff to be sure that was really it.

So as sad as it makes me, I have to eat some meat. I strive to do as much veg as I can, lots of rice, salads, pasta type things. But twice a month I have to have red meat (the leaner the better, usually a steak once a month if possible) and I eat chicken about once a week, alternating with fish once a week.

But I feel horrible guilt about eating any meat at all, to tell you the truth I don't look down on anyone who is a confirmed carnivore...every person is different...and I support vegetarians all I can (we have them in the family on my husband's side) but to function, I have to eat some meat. I wonder if it's that bloodtype thing. Sad to say, it's a throwback to my JW days that I don't even know my type yet.

There is was a thread I remember, I can't find it, but it was all about things that you can't do if you're a JW. Maybe someone remembers what the title was? I tried searching but couldn't find it.

It's a must read for anyone thinking about becoming a JW.

Here are just a few of the things you have to give up

All your non-JW friends (and family for the most part)

You have to give up control of your sex life (or be willing to lie about it)

They won't want you to go to college or persue a career. "Jobs" are for earning enough to support your ministry; that's it.

If you're a woman, you have to give up ever being considered an equal being to a man. You will always be lesser, and you will always have to bow to male 'headship' at home, and in the congregation...

just a few of the many, many things...

recently my father and i have been arguing over scriptual interpretation getting nowhere so i wrote him this email to see what his reaction would be...check it out!!.

I, at one or two points in the past several years, considered doing just that. Mostly, for my grandmother's sake. She's gone now, so that isn't an issue, but believe me right after her death my family tried a huge campaign to use that to get me to come back. "It was grandma's dearest wish that you make things right with Jehovah." What kind of manipulative trash is THAT?!

I couldn't, though. I realized that my family would still treat my husband as an outsider, and the worst part is that it would be like giving my full endorsement for them to brainwash my child. I couldn't let my silence be agreement with the screwy things that they teach.

It's a very individual decision, of course. You have to do what you feel is best of course. If there are no kids to consider I think it's an easier choice to make...just be sure that you know that your family will really accept you if you go back and then fade. I always had the feeling that if I went back, I'd have to pioneer or the family wouldn't believe I was sincere and would continue treating me like crud.

straight away told im not ready for baptism, not with the amount and depth of questions, that ive been warned about these sites and that apostates will do anything to knock jws.

proving its the true religion bec the bible says it will happen (shows me scriptures).

also told it doesnt happen with any other religious group - usually people just quietly leave and make no fuss - further proof that ths is the true religion.. i asked about all the dates where predictions were made, eg 1914, 1975. was told there were some articles loosly talking the 'possibility' of something happening, but the wt never said it definitely would - how could it, these are just ordinary men, not profits.

thank you people. the worst of it is. id actually got to know this woman quiet well. id been away with her and some of her friends and family. id gotten to know a lot of people i actually liked. and a lot of the friends i had before i stopped mixing with. and now she doesnt want to see me. she was still nice to me today, even though i could see i was offending her deeply. i did that as gently as possible. even offered to show her this site. might as well of offered to call up demons........................

See, Holly, high control groups start by isolating people that they want to control and convert. Otherwise, your friends would surely be telling you that JW teachings don't make sense; and therefore JW consider them "bad associations". They also demonize any outside source of information, because they know that it will prove what they teach to be false. I'd call up those friends you had from before, and explain how JW's work at isolating you, and then draw all the support that you can from them. Believe me, in years to come as you learn more about the organization, you will come to count all this as a blessing in disguise. Welcome to you, and to all the other new folks in this thread. my husbands grandmother as been diagnosed with full blown ovary cancer.

they fear that she also has it in her stomach as well.

they are trying to get her to the or tonight in order to operate on her right away.

Vigil for my daughter, please.

as mentioned in my other thread, my daughter lena is having brainsurgery on monday, jan 24. the surgery will last 6-7 hours, so i'm hoping the board members will be willing to make a special effort tomorrow to send positive thoughts, healing energy, good wishes and prayers her way.

we are asking that the surgeon's hands be delicate and skillful and that lena does not bleed overmuch and that brain damage be minimal (if not non-existant).

surgery begins at 8 am eastern standard time (us), but we have to have her to the hospital by 6 am, so this is "good night!
