I'm a little curious about the amish rumspringa!! I haven't seen the show but I would love to. First off it doesn't seem to me that the amish truely allow their children to "run around" as they claim to. IMO I can imagine that there is much internal pressure from amish families for their children to come back to the religion. Second, ill-equipping people to live in a foreign world then releasing them into that world to fend for themselves seems a perfect way of reinforcing that their way of seeing things is the right way. I'm sure after seeing a few episodes of "rumspringa" one will see why amish children run back to their religion (comfort zone).

Your worst Watchtower Study ever?
by Celtic inwhat article was it when you were a witness that was the most complicated for you to understand?
i remember that there were a right few beaut's, dad being the wt conductor, of course we had to go through the finer detail getting to the most indepth meaning and how it linked up.
hmmmmmmm.. what was your worst watchtower study ever then?

Did you wear your badge outside the convention, so as to "give a witness?"
by truthseeker inthis year at the dc, we were expressly told to wear our badges at all times, even when going to a restaurant or some place else, so we could "give a witness.".
did any of you hear follow through with this arrangement?
did you have one of those "fantastic" experiences, when someone commented on your badge?.

HELL NO !!! and none of my witless friends did either! I hated those things. I don't know what it was but just the thought of putting one on me made me feel uncomfortable. You tell yourself, "whats the point in even trying to put on that new snazy tie to look different at the assembly if your going to wear that dumb badge that identifies you with a group". and the wts says "we are a unified people, not a uniformed people" . then whats the deal with the badges?

scientology?
by boy@crossroads injust found this in the april issue of people magazine talking about religious views in hollywood.
there is an insert asking about scientology.
it says, "advocates of the church praise its literacy and drug recovery programs, though its reputation suffers because former members have called it a mind-controlling cult.

"Give us a break," said John Travolta. "Being the bold personalities we are, do you honestly think we'd let ourselves be controlled?"
I don't know much about scientology. Anybody from the west coast care to share what they think, is it a cult in your opinion?

Interesting article on Anglo-Israelism, Gentile Times, Great Pyramid origin
by Dogpatch inthe following link is a pretty good read on anglo-israelism, gentile times, george storrs and the great pyramid doctrines that russell taught early on in the watchtower's history.
it would be good for a jw to read this as part of demonstrating how the watchtower borrowed many of its key doctrines from others who had come along earlier, disproving that they were unique:.

Awesome article I thoroughly enjoyed that!! I've heard some of those names before like George Storrs but i've never before realized how the adventists, church of God, and the jehovahs witnesses were linked. I went to the adventists church a couple of weeks ago and they were similiar to the witnesses. Maybe I'll take a little run to the church of god next!!

7th day psychos!!
by boy@crossroads intoday, saturday i figured i'd take a little run to the adventist church to see how similiar they are to the witnesses.
after talking with them i just had to run to the computer, asap.. after the service, people started walking out.
i felt like walking out too b/c there was a lot of old people and they were kind of cliqueish.
