i am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).
Scummy, don't get scared of us here. Some of the peeps like to 'ex-preach'. If you have something to say, say it, but if you are concerned about something you see in the congregation, just come here. People here have experienced all sorts of things. Most of the stories are sad, but there are a few triumphs.
Although we can refute doctrine, why waste time on it? We're out, and just should be loving people, and not be reverse shunning through subtle attacks on people who just want somewhere to go, because they are growing tired of some of the hypocrisy they see.

Hi scummy,
I guess as long as you don't try to save our souls, we'll be good friends to you. Man, as long as you're happy and good to people, with an open heart and mind, there's not much else we can ask for. I have several friends who are still JW's that I believe are the best of the best, despite our religous differences. I'm glad you came without guns blazing.
Take it easy.

i have a jw friend who said to me "i'd be interested to know if there are any other religions that teach what jws teach".
after the post on "food for thought" which gave details of modern day bible students, i thought i'd ask the question:.
what religions are there that either have similar roots to the jw religion, or that have similar teachings?
Well, we all know that there is no 'true' religion, just a spiritual sense. Some people are like cattle and NEED to be herded along their spiritual evolution. I think that offering just a simple "that's a question only your heart can answer" is fine, because if they don't want to leave the mommies and daddies in the organization, they wont.
Just reading various bibles and philosophies will help anyone get a general idea of how to search for spirituality. And, if they are fortunate enough to find their 'true' religion, we can only hope it's one that encourages tolorance and an open mind. But, usually the swirling questions of fate, chance, death, afterlife, and love will make someone realize that no org. ruled my men, and all led by different gods, could possibly have the answers.

is there anyone from the area who remmbers the story of the 30,000 spent on trees for the vist of a gb memmber.. i dont know the exact story as it is now about 7 or 8 years ago but i heard it from several people that worked on the hall.. apparently a gb memmber was to come to britian to dedicate the hall (i cant remmember which one).. the brothers in charge wanted the hall to look nice for his vist.but the land around was yet to be landscaped.. so brothers enquired as to the viability of planting some trees but were informed that it was the wrong time of year and they would die.. the cost of the trees was around the region of 30,000.plus the amount of free labour from the brothers in planting them.. anyway the big bosses of the scheme decided to ignore the professional advice and planted them anyway.. they all died.. 30.000 pounds of money from old ladies, pioneers and little children as well as ordinary publishers went down the drain for the gb's visit.. nice to know they used our money wisely.
DIM are you in the area with me? I'm in Jersey....give me a mail, my address is open. When you mentioned turnersville, i knew you were close. I read that you're moving to seattle, but I'm interested anyone.

my wife is a saved christain.
she believes all that crap.
her sister playes the piano and sings in the churches.
Expecting true spirituality in church is like expecting to find honesty in politics.
as has been discussed elsewhere in this forum, the wtbts has published many images depicting life after armageddon and the elements and presentation are fairly similar from picture to picture.
the text referencing a paradise picture almost always at one point refers to the restoration of the conditions of the garden of eden prior to the fall.. but what about the things which are never included in the drawings?.
1. never any couples from different ethnic backgrounds.. 2. never any persons whose clothes obviously do not match their ethnicity.. 3. never any printed material like books, magazines, or newspapers.
MY lie's better than your lie.
of course you do.
apostates hate everything, even puppies.
Apostatebuster is Naeblis....cool your jets peeps.
in my never-ending task of trying to get my niece out of jws clutches, i have good news.
just a brief history.
my lifetime jw mom raised my niece from the age of 9 due to my sister's alcohol and drug abuse.
Nice!!! I know how sweet victory feels. Congrats.
on the the back of awake june22 is a short little story!.
last year, in maryland, u.s.a, a man politely refused the wt and awake magazines.his younger, however asked if she could have them, and the father said that she could.the two cleaning their car and putting trash in a nearby trash container[in other words a dumpster].
concerned that the magazines might be discarded, the witness who offered them decided to return later[in other words late at night/early morning] and check the container[container is such a nice word...but in reality its called a dumpster...].
An interesting story...and sick....
