last month my husband and i and our two sons travelled from the uk to visit my family in dayton, ohio.
while there, i had an eerie experience, one im still not sure what to make of.
my fathers sister, shirley, was also visiting in dayton while we were there.
Target, I know what you're getting at...sometimes I believe in the supernatural, and others, the "it's all in your head" version of events.
I've had weird things, like seeing images wide awake, (that at the time I thought were demons), voices, sounds, unexplained things, (my whole family has), but ever since I stopped believing in the supernatural, the things have ceased to be. I don't know, perhaps the whole time my mind was making them up....

as you may have guessed, there's a get-together this week for our cong.
(well, mostly the younger generation).
it's basically going to be about playing games, sports, etc.
Slip...good point, they miss the 'talks' but not the person, very typical...

jehovahs witnesses claim to be happier than non-jehovah's witnesses.. jehovah's witnesses claim to be happier because they live in a spiritual paradise where everyone is more loving and more moral.. one of the reasons i left is very simply because i found these two claims to be false.. i disproved them by one simple action; getting to know non-jehovah's witnesses.
the more i did this, the more i found that happiness and kindness were traits that were not associated with any particular religious, social, business, ethnic or political group.
happiness and kindness instead were associated with very individual qualities: self confidence, good naturedness, humility, generosity of spirit and patience, among others.. i continue to try to apply these traits to my life and study those around me who display these traits.
I see that athiests tend to be kinder, or at least more 'real' because they love for the day, (and live for the day) instead of living for the future which may never come.
Eternity? Let's be humans right now; I am this close to becoming an athiest, so close to stop believing. Just love people, and let God see how we really are without the promise of a reward.

I agree, Joel. There are a few JW's who qualify....it's the person which determines the personality....

for all who have, are, or will be shunned (which should pretty much be all of us), do you still have a deep love for those who now shun you...now, not familial love, but an active love that yearns for that person's companionship?.
i have several regrets; one of them is the friends that i've lost.

one more topic.. my wife just called up to tell me that she was over my parents before a doctor's visit, chatting with my mother, when my crazed jw father threw my small 14 year old brother down the stairs and punched him for not wanting to study.. i've been beat, thrown down stairs, had potted plants thrown at me, chased around the house, and such, for not wanting to do the family study.. this is what the "truth" does to people, all you loyal jw's....take note...... (i'm so angry i'm shaking).

My wife just called up to tell me that she was over my parents before a doctor's visit, chatting with my mother, when my crazed JW father threw my small 14 year old brother down the stairs and punched him for not wanting to study.
I've been beat, thrown down stairs, had potted plants thrown at me, chased around the house, and such, for not wanting to do the family study.

i don't want to spam, but i just wanted to post one more topic tonite.
i was reading bridgette's post, and was moved, but not just because of what she said...mommy made a comment about us being friends here, and you know what...i feel that way too.. sometimes, even though i have a wife who left the jw's with me, i feel so damn isolated and alone, that i'm the only strong one among a bunch of children, who all fight and tear at each other....this is one place i feel semi-normal again.. it's so hard to befriend people now.
i have so much trouble talking to people and interacting socially with people, although i've been told i'm agreeable to be around.. i don't know, i'm exhausted from thinking.

It's so HARD to befriend people now. I have so much trouble talking to people and interacting socially with people, although I've been told I'm agreeable to be around.
