Funny....JWs can rebuild homes, but routinely destroy families. Which is more important?

2006 Yeartext: Obey!
by Severus inthe examining the scriptures daily 2006 has been released.
the jw rites of surprise and expectation over the new year's text are now at a fever pitch.
it seems that the theme "godly obedience" was such a hit at the 2005 district conventions, that the governing body has served up an extra helping.

Is it me or has the WTS gotten worse?
by Lady Lee ini've been out of the jws for the last 20 years.
i remember when...the wts prided its self on having khs that were humble, practical and were't a showy displaythe wts was as militant as they are now.the elders weren't as cruel to their ownthe wts wasn't always puttong their hands in the r&f's pocket and demanding money.the conventions actually cared about the needs of the r&f by providing food and not making a bunch of rules about where they could eat and what they could put under the seat.. am i remembering things differently?
has the society gotten worse?

I was born into it, and was pretty active during 80's-90's....left in 2000. I remember congregation volleyball games and huge fantastic picnics in the 80s. Sometimes I actually miss those days. For some reason, it all went to hell in the 90's. There was a certain paranoia that was present, that I cant describe. The rules started killing off the good JWs little by little, until only the true fanatics were left. It's really sad. It's all about control. Take away the games and recreation, and replace them with fear of losing family. What else do they need?

I can't believe they shunned me...
by Smoky inhave any of you ever feel abandoned by "friends" because you dont associate (congregate) with them anymore?
there is a couple of 'friends' that i haven't talked to for about a year, (because i dont go to the meetings).
i dont have anything against them or the congregation.

You know, it's been three years since the last 'friend' stopped communicating with me. You know what? I found new friends. Eventually. It doesn't happen overnight, but perhaps going to a shrink to talk about it will help you get beyond it, and can start over new with relationships. JWs won't change, only you can. And if it includes a little courage and self-discovery, you can make friends, ones that are more loyal than anyone still practicing shunning.

My uncle is one of the nuke inspectors for the Bay City plant, and his house is right on the Bay. He's helping secure and shut down the place before the storm hits. (Right next to Galveston) My mom just told him to get the cats and get the hell out of there. I hope he has something left to come home to.

My very good friend Joelbear
by Cygnus ini first "met" joel in the old jw-oriented aol chat room before jwd existed and when h2o was still in its infancy.
we're talking january/february of 1997. i liked him instantly and have maintained a somewhat distant friendship with the man ever since.
recently he demonstrated what sort of man he is by sharing very generously with me in a time of need i'm experiencing.
-

Absolutely. Joelbear was one of the few people who welcomed me in the beginning when I was coming out of the JWs. He talked to me when I was unsure and scared. I'm glad to have met him and can identify with his problems. He can get past it, only because he cares, and it his kindnesses can only be revisted to him.
