Favorite smells or sounds -- or not

here in the northern hemisphere we are experiencing spring.. there are some smells i just love especially in the spring.

fresh cut grass just makes me feel good.

a fresh spring rain is very comforting.

Rain on a tin roof

Car tires on wet streets after a rain

Newborn heads

The sound of the front door opening when your mate has been away for a few days and is due back any minute

Smells

Pignon smoke

Freshly made cinnamon candles

Peppermint soap

Coconut sun cream

Pine sap

Pancake and bacon breakfast

Outdoor barbecues

Freshly crushed basil

A Greek hillside near the sea covered in wild marjoram, thyme, rosemary, lavender, oregano

Kelp

Pine forest

Plus many of the ones already mentioned, especially babies giggling and natural water sounds.

i was recently reminded of john cleese's [in]famous eulogy of graham chapman.. personally i think it was perhaps the funniest, albeit most shocking, thing that he's ever done.. i offer it for your perusal:.

Torture to find WMD?

do you think those iraqi's were tortured to find wmd?.

the rank and file soldier was following the orders of the hired interrogation contractors (who are outside of military law) to soften up the prisoners.

what were they looking for this past year?

The Sydney Herschel article said that the civilian interrogators are not subject to court martial, they are private employees. I still don't see why they shouldn't be tried under civilian criminal law, though. What they were doing must be illegal for everyone, not just soldiers. I'd have thought.SixofNine did you see the picture Clinton posted of two women holding a sign that says "We shaved our pubic hair, read our lips, no more Bush"? I laughed and laughed. Crude, but effective.

Unusual things that happen during prayers

it's a nice warm summer in a welsh sea-side town and the chairman is giving the concluding prayer.

he starts to slow down and then there is a pause.

it lasts long enough to make you open your eyes and lookup in time to see him wobbling backwards and forwards.. two brothers leap to the platform and catch him as he is about to pass out but then, in a rediculous scene, instead of helping him to a chair they prop him up between them and one of them carries on with the prayer!

Be a Man!

i figured i'd post this on here (i wish i could take credit for it, but it was written by a guy who goes by the name "pook".

it's one of the things i read that helped me on my way to being successful as a single ex-jw.

even though society teaches men to repress their sexuality, jws do it worse.

Well, Nos, I personally wouldn't date Pook (if I were 20 years younger, single, and he showed any interest me) because he doesn't seem to have a lot of respect for women, but I think he has some points. I had a boyfriend once who was a Nice Guy and just like a woman, and he WAS really nice. Sensitive and sweet and cried his eyes out when we saw Philadelphia. And, it was icky. I felt really guilty for not wanting to continue the relationship, because I had thought that was what I wanted. But when I got it, I didn't. (It's okay, I didn't wreck him, he dumped me because I wasn't classy enough for his family. Go figure.)

I thought it was pretty funny. Most of them are only soft when they are losing an argument and turn on the hurt feelings to get you to feel like a brute. That drives me crazy. But having said that, my JW relatives are pretty sweet. Of course I know they are hoping Armageddon will come next week and destroy me in some gory way, but they're still sweet to me. It's kind of a schizy religion.

Need Suggestions

a jw spammer just jumped onto a medical message board that i belong to.

i would like to have some suggestions for posting to her.. her topic was (i'm sure you can almost guess what her topic was) "you can live forever in paradise.".

i need to be respectful of her because the board is moderated very closely and putdowns will not be tolerated, but i'd like some suggestions for questions i can ask her.. okay?

If it's a medical board why not just ask her about blood, blood fractions and recycled own blood. They all seem to be tremendously confused about that right now. I know she's talking about living forever in Paradise, but is there any reason you can't change the subject? Because there's not a whole lot of scientific argument that can go on around living forever in Paradise, it sounds like your basic "can to"/ "can not" kind of argument to me.

i receieved this "poem" from some witness chick who sent it as a forward to myself and a whole bunch of other dubs.

my sister received it from someone else and i have other friends who received it from other sources.

im sure every young witness who has email has received it by now, and it's the most sickening, disheartening thing i have seen in a long time.

That is totally barforific. At least it shows how much they rule through simple fear. That's right, marry a JW and when he beats you and molests your kids, the Elders will cover it up. Nice and safe on the inside, all right.

Einstein Theory of Relativity

published the one and only article they ever published about einstein's theory of relativity.. einstein's theory is in the news now as the gravity probe b has recently been launched in order to measure the "frame dragging" predicted by general relativity theory as the probe orbits the earth.. if i remember correctly the 1969 awake article questioned whether einstein's theory was correct.

i doubt very much that there was anyone then, or even now, at bethel who was even remotely qualified to question einstein's theory, but, then again, lack of qualifications hasn't ever held the wt back from writing articles.. the wt library cds only have awakes going back to 1970, so i will have to find a bound volume if i want to read that article again.. anyone else here interested in einstein's theory of gravitation?.

That's very interesting, if I understand it (which is questionable). But if you are saying these particles are connected on some sort of axis, I'm surprised. My understanding (which I think I've mentioned is weak) is that these particles operate on a quantum level, and are therefore only there part of the time or possibly probabalistically there all the time or none of the time etc. Well, under these circumstances, surely an axis that connects them is equally probabilistic and vague. It's hard to imagine what the connection between them would consist of under those circumstances. HOpe that makes sense, it's probably a stupid point anyway, but I'm trying to understand.
