Marriage vows are very important, more important than a temporary term in office. I say this meaning the vow itself is more binding (unless you went with non-traditional vows about loving your mate more than chocolate.) So to treat such an important vow with disregard is a reflection on that person and how they will view other vows and promises.
But we don't know what sort of vows they made, or what was their starting agreement, spoken or unspoken, or what happened during the relationship, or who did what to whom first. It's all very private and no one is ever in a position to really even judge whether or not anyone broke a promise, or made one they couldn't keep in the first place, in a relationship.
If they decided to treat marriage as a hope more than a promise, as many people do if they've been married before, then they might not have violated any vows. Marriages are really personal and I don't think non-participants can judge either party on the rest of their performance, particularly a public performance, based on a marriage breaking up.
Besides, if you promise your kid to go swimming on the weekend and it rains all weekend and the swimming pool is closed and you can't, that doesn't mean you will steal pencils at work on Monday. As a general rule. We can't always keep our promises and that doesn't make us bad people, just imperfect. IMHO, of course.

Only possible things happen. Is free choice an illusion?
by Terry inthings are what they are.. everything acts according to its nature.. nothing escapes its own nature.. we cannot be other than what we are and our "choices" follow our nature.. consequently, can we not say correctly that free choice is merely our ignorance of the fact that all our actions and choices are predetermined by our nature?.
example: if i offer you dog piss or a dove bar is that really a choice?.
only possible things happen.

Hi myelaine
Welcome to the board.
that "thing" that is trying to get us to go against our natures is God's spirit in us helping us to make a choice - of our own free will - based on the knowledge that what God's spirit leads us into is good and what our nature leads us into is bad.. we still make the choice.
I don't take quite such a dim view of human nature as you do, but otherwise I find it possible that in some sense you are right.
Best wishes, hope you enjoy yourself here.

String theory, Relativity, and angels
by onacruse incurrent mathematical models of the universe involve what is termed 'hyper-dimension.".
ever read the book flatland?
it describes how a 2-dimensional being would perceive the intersection of a 3-dimensional object in "their" universe.. a flatlander would never be able to comprehend a sphere.

Ah, English men, sigh. Maddening yet adorable, and vice versa.
English? Eng-lish? You really do want to annoy me, don't you?Good lord no, I don't want to annoy you! I spoke entirely in ignorance. I never noticed that you had Ireland in your profile, and it's hard to pick up an Irish accent in written text. Yet more apologies to you. I think should stay away from this thread, it seems all I get to do here is apologise to you.

Just to clarify, I wasn't agreeing he must be gay just because he's hot. I was just agreeing that he was attractive. But women often experience meeting a cute guy and then finding out he's gay, and we like to have a little moan about it now and then. I didn't think SP meant more than that. But I don't know SP so I could be wrong.

Are Academic Ability And Intelligence One And The Same?

I'm not even sure what intelligence is. Whatever it is, I'm guessing it helps with academic ability but is not the same.

I think I might be beginning to follow. You're saying that we equate darkness with negative traits because of racism. Seems likely. How do African heiroglyphs enter into it? And I'm still confused about Napolean and the statues. I wish I knew what "real truth" is going to eventually come out, you've got me so curious.

I tend to believe in fate AND free choice, even though I know it's a paradox (but I love paradoxes). We do have our natures, but we can choose to go against our natures
I disagree; our nature is what it is, and there's only futility in fighting against it.I suspect we really don't disagree, because I also think it's futile to fight your nature. Our nature fights back and it seems to me we usually lose, although I can't speak for others really. But we often try, and isn't the thing in us that makes us TRY to go against our natures something we might identify as free will?

Had to laugh, dh, just before I read your message I was sitting here reading Gala (eurotrash gossip rag) and thinking "gosh, Princess Stephanie looks old, even though she's younger than me, etc etc". Now are you saying you think I should stop doing that?
