3 babies contract Herpes becaue of a religious ritual

i heard a very sad news item this morning on the way to work.. in upstate new york, a rabbi has been ordered to stop performing bris, using his mouth to suction the blood after 3 boys tested postive for herpes after receiving a bris from the same rabbi.. 2 of the boys a very sick and one has died.
apparently herpes can be deadly on the new ammune system of babies.. does anyone know anthing about this religious ritual - why would a rabbi use his mouth to suction blood from the baby?

Funky, thanks for finding the linkand posting. I'm not very compter literate o I didn't know how to do this.
As strange as this story may sound and hard for us to believe, think of the many people who can't believe that we as DUBs would have died or allowed our children to die for a religious belief.
This is part of the reasson why I have trouble believing in any organized religion. When does religious beliefs over ride common sense?
Since I grow up in Bklyn and lived near a Hasidic Jewish community, some how this story as disturbing as it is does not surprise me.

what are the give away signs that make you just know that they're a witness?

In the workplace it can be tricky especially if you work in a corporate environment. Usually I can tell the DUB's by their not participating in any of the office celebrations related to holidays or by their refusal to work any overtime because of "personal reasons". Also they tend to be extremely unflexible when it comes to taking vacation time (particularily for an assembly). They do not care about seniority or the work load of other staffers, all they care about is getting time off to attend their assembly.

DID OUR PARENTS REPLACE BIRTHDAY OR CHRISTMAS GIFTS WITH ANYTHING ELSE?

what about it...i know for me i got gifts throughout the year but i didnt get as many as my friends did on their birthdays etc....what about you...do you or did you replace b/days and christmas gifts or celebrations with anything else whilst being a jw and in particular anything as personal....

Yes. We had two gift days one near my birthday and one near Christmas.
Since I was an only child and my Dad was an unbeliever, I think both my parents tried to compensate for the alienation I received from relatives who were worldly.

i thought they were great and we always had dubs from around the world who would stay at our house for the assembly.. .
one of my best memories is about a group of young sisters from the mid wet who had never really known any black people who stayed at my house and stayed in our guest bedroom during the 7 day assembly .. .

One of my best memories is about a group of young sisters from the mid wet who had never really known any black people who stayed at my house and stayed in our guest bedroom during the 7 day assembly .
They were really great and really pretty so it was a great time for me.
They corresponed with us for many years after.
I remember sneaking down to the guest bathroom to take a glimpse at the them while they took a shower.
Did any of you either travel and stay with witiness families for a convention or house witinesses during a convention that you would like to share those experiences?
