May all the victims of this tragic day, rest in peace.
We will never forgot you or make sense of this tragic disaster.
i want to take a minute and remember those who died that tragic, surreal day.
god bless.. .
May all the victims of this tragic day, rest in peace.
We will never forgot you or make sense of this tragic disaster.
i am so sick of this woman, and her fame for simply being born into a rich family.
i am just waiting for the day that we get to see her name in the obituary and not on the front of some magazine to say what a great thing she has done, when she found a lost dog.
i actually like the movie, "house of wax", as it does allow you to see some damage done to this woman.
She is a smart cookie.
She making millions with average looks and next to no talent.
I actually couldn't care less about her antics, I wouldn't want her dead.
I'm just glad she didn't hurt herself or others.
paradise
when first meeting jehovah's witnesses, the message is one of hope .
and peace.
I definitely think that there are similarities between the 2 cults.
Jim Jones established a cult that preyed on the disinfranchised - minorities, elderly and immigrants, and the poor. He offered them hope for a better life. Very similar to the dubs, especially in the 60's and 70's. The dubs promised freedom from oppression due to race, eternal youth, no money problems as long as they were loyal to the cause.
As far a living together as a commune, don't forget about the Isrealites who were told to flee Jerusalem, when the armies were near. Those followers left their homes and even family with just the shirts on their back. I don't think it is far fetched to think that if the Borg thought the government was circling there wagons in an attemot to disban their religion, they would flee to some place were they could still practice there religion.
I am sure that many of the still loyal members would leave and abandon property, careers and family.
The next step would be easy. Once isolated from from the world they could be convinced to do almost anything if they believe it is God directed through the Borg.
That includes taking their own lives.
How different is it from refusing blood and allowing a family member to die.
are you for it or against it?
I understand the intentions behind the soberity stops, but just how random is random.
As Yogi Berra said: "It's so coincidental, it can;t be a coincidence".
I am of the school, prove probable cause first, then make a stop.

is it harder to get reinstated after being df'd for apostasy than any other sin?.
i would imagine that if a jw admitted posting here over 10,000 times, that it could be difficult to be re-instated....lmao.
If not impossible, I'm sure it extremely humilating.
The brothers will no doubt ask you every question they can think of just to make sure you don't harbor any lingering apostate ideas.
They will no doubt make you wait a few years before they even consider you for re-instatement after you intially send in your letter.
My question is, why would anyone who has had their eys open, go back to the darkness.
The reason would have to border on a life or death situation
maybe the same people who post on this board and tell us to just get over it.
i get so tired of them dismissing our experiences and trauma by saying "why do you have to tear jehovah's organization down?
just get over it and move on!".
There is no magic formula for dealing with a traumatic experience, each individual has to find their own way to handle the trauma and move on.
In some ways it was easier for me to move on after 9/11 because I still worked in the area and lived nearby. I had to figure out a way to move on and function the way I functioned before - I had no choice.
Whe I left the Borg, I moved out of the area, cut off all relationships with anyone connected with the Borg, and I refused to acknowledge any memory of my dub past.
Since I didn't face down my past and express my feeling to those I blamed for my enslavement (including myself), I really didn't move on, I just covered it up.
Only in the last few years, after sharing my experiences with other, especially ex dubs like you guys, can I now say that I am almost over it.
If I had handled my escape for the Borg the way I handled 9/11 - face on, I would be a lot further along by now.
tonight, i got to attend a sneak preview of the movie world trade center.
i thought that it was an excellent movie.
i highly recommend that everyone go see it.
I saw the movie and for the most part I enjoyed it.
I was apprehensive at first since I was at the WTC at the time of the attack, I wasn't sure how I would react.
I handled okay, but I did have the same physical effects that I experienced that day, like an accerated heart beat and sweating a lot.
As for Nic Cage's accent, as a native NYer it didn't offend me, NY is such a melting pot of different cultures and people, I'm not sure if there is an "authentic NY accent" anymore.
I don't remember if Oliver Stone, ever identified who was responsible for the attack, but keep in mind, most of the movie was an reinactment of the events of that day for those firemen and those at the site. Most of us that were there did not know the full story of what happened or who was responsible until later in the day or the next day.
We did not have access to radio, TV or our family and friends, so those of you who saw the events on TV, knew more than those of us at the site.
I didn't get the full story until the next day.
i could not have a big new kids on the block pin, or wear any new kids on the block pins in puplic becuase it was considered idolatry.
i also could not wear my shoes without laces (it was cool back then) because it looked wordly.
what other strange theings besides the usual holiday/birthday stuff weren't you allowed to do?
I wasn't allowed top join the Boy Scouts.
This really pissed me off because they always seemed to do fun things.
.
did anyone see the city confidential episode where a dub woman from (i think) boise, idaho was killed by her russian born ballet star husband?.
i seems pretty clear the he killed her, but he is now saying that she was killed by the watchtower, bible and tract society, because she married him - an unbeliever.. does any one have any personal knowledge about this case?
Sorry.
City Confidential is a TV show that features true life crime stories.
It is on the Arts and Entertainment channel.
All of the characters are real people.
lori and i are headed to nyc tomorrow, and we'll be there 'til thursday.
we'll also have limited funds (ie: don't suggest a broadway show!
any specific suggestions on good, inexpensive things to do, places to see, music, art, food?
Soho is a great place to visit.
Many of the art gallaries are free and they are very good.
I suggest a bar b que resturant in the Soho area for lunch - I forgot the name, I'll ask my wife when I get home and I'll re post.
You may also want to explore the East Village between 14th st and Houston.
If it's a nice day you could walk the entire length, you will see many small and inexpensive resturants.
