Thank you for highlighting the main points.(Otherwise I would have never read )
There were many times as a child that we went hungry with zero assistance from our local KH.
In fact they just added to my mother's stress and depression when they told her she needed to start making 5 meetings a week instead of just 3 and that she was slacking off with her out in service hours.
She had 4 hungry children!!!!!!
I remember one time a "worldly person" (our neighbor) brought us over bags of food at our most desperate time ever.( dad was on a 3 day drinking binge). He never asked for anything in return.

Hero and Role Model
by Kismet inthe recent thread about the nyc firefighters got me thinking about role models.. who are your role models now or your hero?
how does that compare to when you were an active jw?
thinking back my role models while in the org, were a couple of older brothers and sisters who had served jehovah faithfully for decades, suffered in varoius ways but never lost their faith.

From my understanding...Bill Bowen is suing them for some of the reasons you mentioned.
He is pressing Criminal charges...which include..raketeering (when they send a pedophile to another congergation without telling the members)Yes... it sounds like Mafia type activity..organized crime.
I also heard a rumor..noticed i said rumor.. that the FBI will be investigating. -

Bankruptcy filing called option for archdiocese
Advisers cite worst-case plan
By Stephen Kurkjian and Michael Rezendes, Globe Staff, 8/2/2002
he Archdiocese of Boston is considering the option of filing for bankruptcy if it loses large judgments in clergy sexual abuse cases, including the dispute currently being heard in Suffolk Superior Court over whether it must abide by an agreement to pay alleged victims of convicted child molester and former priest John J. Geoghan between $15 million and $30 million, church advisers said.
