Reparations for slavery: Just or unjust?
by MYOHNSEPH inthere's such a broad range of perception on this board, i'm curious to know what you folks think of this issue.
are contemporary decendents of black slaves in the united states justified in asking for monetary reparation for their ancestors' bondage?
if you answer is in the affirmative, some related questions are:.

Whites and others living today, did not have
anything to do with their slavery, and if you want to take their argument a
bit further, Rome enslaved my ancestors around 100AD, so Italy therefore
must owe me land and money in reparation, and Babylon and Egypt must owe the
Jews, and the Jews must now owe the Palestinians and so on and so on.... Portions
of every ethnic group on this planet have been slaves to another ethnic
group at one time or another, how can anyone justify singling out one over
the others? -

Heaven,
Although my father did'nt leave us completely ...there were weeks at a time when he would take off leaving us with no money or food..so I totally understand about not depending on men...I also started working as a young teenager. It sucked at the time..but it sure has made us stronger..right
I used to make the mistake of supporting men and being too generous with my money...Now I have a great man that loves to spend money on me...Life is good! Heaven ..I've always picked up on the fact that you are a strong woman...from reading your post...and nice to boot!!!
SheilaM,
Right on sista!! Actually ...we are SOLE sisters..get it...
Great minds think alike...I love a good Mystery book any day of the week!!
Ahhhh...how delicious to have that Steinbeck book...with all the errors..Have you ever been to Monterey California..where he drew most of his inspiration .??? I love that place.. I get a nostalgic feeling when I'm there . I must start reading his books again..it's been a long time.
Maybe we could agree an a book sometime and read it at the same time..and discuss it??
Cheers to my.. new friends...Heaven and Sheila!!
Gotta go...have to go play in the sun...check back later.
edited to add...CC...Your alright in my book!! Hope we can be friends as well.

Everyone needs to take into account that CC is only 17 years old and hey when your that age you know everything...right
BTW....everything I have or will have is from my own hard work....I NEVER depend on a man...Nor ever will. Now ...I think I will go buy me some new shoes.Come on Estee and SheilaM...lets go have some fun!!
PS.This may surpise you but I have read thousands of books and still do....Koonzt,,,King...Twain..Agatha Christie..Steinbeck..Danielle Steel..ect.ect. and those were just the one ones I read in High School...so I'm not as shallow as you might think.

You would be suprised how many Americans don't know what a boot or a bonnet is....had to explain it to a friend and he knows everything! Reading all those Agatha Christie books and Ross Periot books when I was a kid paid off. How cool..tho...a boot sale!!
