l.a. investigating alleged patient dumping .
friday, march 24, 2006 1:08 pm est .
At one time I worked for a medical practitioner in Littlerock, CA which is near the Palmdale/Lancaster area, a good long drive from downtown Los Angeles or from the San Fernando Valley (over the hill from Los Angeles).
One of the regular patients kept telling us stories about the LA Police making raids on the homeless district, putting the people into vans and police cars and dumping them in our area. We thought the patient was making it up.
Fast forward to the day I spent running errands in Palmdale. There, on the sidewalks, were *many* of the homeless people we had placed literature with in street work in the Los Angeles area! Now how is it that so many of the LA homeless suddenly decided to relocate to cardboard boxes in the desert?
More and more homeless appeared as the months went on. One morning I met up with a congregational favorite, "James the Bum"! James dressed in African-style robes, wouldn't wear anything made of leather, wore red nail polish, and gave the most fascinating lectures on math and science to people waiting for the bus. He wouldn't speak with women, but he would lecture in their presence. My children and I would watch for him then start our time on "his" corner just so we could hear to what he had to say.
Rumor had it that James was once a professor, that he once had a home in our (LA) area, and that he had taken a pioneer brother in to live with him and....the brother was never seen at the Kingdom Hall again!
Sadly, I think the LAPD caught up with him and, tiring of his outbursts (he occasionally went ballistic in the neighborhood liquor store), relocated him without his consent.
"If you want to do the algebra you got to know the signs!" (James the Bum)

dozy seems to be okay with the un deal.
i've got some relatively simple questions that i would like answered from the bible, by dozy!
if dozy has enough faith to do it.. i would like to see one verse from the bible that actually says jesus & michael the archangel are one and the same.
I've got some relatively simple questions that I would like answered from the Bible, by DOZY!
Well then why don't you PM Dozy and ask?
Take the discussion(s) offline and report back with a summary IF there is anything to report.
Spare the rest of us the agony.

until recently i used to be just a lurker.
but since i began posting, i am finding it very theraputic!
seems getting out my feelings, and sharing with others my experiences, and the things i personally have discovered, is helping me alot!
What's really cool is when you say something "controversial" and everybody jumps your shite for it. And you get to come right back, and...nothing happens.

the first paragraph on the page: .
"a number of publishers have telephoned the branch office regarding certain recordings of kingdom songs sung in a popular style that are presently being circulated among jehovah's witnesses.
Limewire has the Prince version of song 15 and the "Celine Dion/George Benson" version of some other song. Do a search for "Kingdom Melodies".

i was involved in several, starting when i was about 10 or 11 with jobs like sweeping up sawdust or picking up loose nails.
i loved it.
once, when i was about 22 we were building the kh south of santa barbara in carpinteria.
It seemed that she was getting wound up with the thought that any money at all was paid to anyone for whatever 'line item'.
You're not quite correct on that so I will elaborate:
Quick Builds utilized "unpaid volunteers", or so I thought. It now seems that some volunteers were unpaid while other volunteers received payment for the use of the various equipment and supplies they voluntarily provided as well as payment for the expenses they voluntarily incurred.
Quick Builds also utilized contractors, suppliers, etc. Obviously these are paid.
It's the unpaid volunteers who were entitled to submit requests for reimbursements that I am sad about. It seems a contradiction in terms AND out of line with the information JW's were given at the Hall during meeting parts.
Rank and file JW's do not have access to the Branch Manual. While it may be informative, it doesn't figure into my discussion.

I don't think is an area where you can attack anyone for the roles they played or didn't play in getting the job done.
Sure I can. I'm "attacking" the WT representatives who led a number of us to believe that they spoke in the "pure language of truth".
Actually, I'm not "attacking". I'm mourning.

There was an awful lot of cronyism going on.
That would have been my next point of discussion.

I think what everyone agreed that what was fair was that brothers who were in the construction field should not have to pay out of pocket for the equipment, gasoline, supplies etc.
Why shouldn't they have to pay out of pocket? Does "volunteer" here mean "uncoerced" and "unremunerated"? As I recall, when the matter of Quick Builds was brought up at meetings the context included terms such as "donation" "free" and "unpaid". Never did I hear mention of compensation such as has been discussed on this thread. "Everyone" didn't agree. The topic was not opened to discussion by "everyone". This is the first I've heard that any JW not specifically contracted to work on a quick build was financially compensated.
Believe me, no one made any money on these projects
Gregor, I'm sure you are a lovely person speaking in good faith BUT sadly, I do not believe you. I'm sure there were good guys, brothers who didn't "profit" from a quick build, but is that the point? The point here is that "volunteer" was interpreted by quite a number of JW's to mean both "uncoerced" AND "uncompensated". Dummy us.
Can you imagine a brother who works in construction five days a week and goes to five meetings a week plus field service and then he gets peer pressured into all his weekends for several weeks?
Oh, the poor brother...not! Can you imagine a mom with 5 baptised kids who works at supporting and taking care of her family seven days a week and goes (prepared!) to five meetings a week plus field service (x6) and then gets pressured into using weekends for quick builds *at her own expense* because one of her kids got invited to be on the roofing crew and another kid got invited to be on some other crew (it's been a long time ago, I've forgotten what they all did), and the rest of the family were given assignments elsewhere on the builds? They asked for our help. We weren't remunerated, not for gas, not for equipment, not for supplies. The mom had to find a way to produce what was needed from the household budget. Mom had to wake up early and drive to the builds, sometimes for hours, because the family lived in a rural area and no one else from the congregation went to builds. Mom had to take care of expenses, car repairs, everything...and she was willing because wasn't everyone else involved facing the same thing? And doing it with joy? Mom was, so were her kids. Discovering that conditions were not the same for all "volunteers" is having an effect.
As I said in a previous post....I'm learning.

P.S. No regrets.
i thought about this the other day when i read a post here about the king apostate being ray franz.
i am wondering who should take the crown as the queen of the apostates.
my guess would be lori mcgregor.
Are you suggesting that Ray Franz has a hatred for JW's?
