Satanus, there is an interesting sci-fi book on this very subject. Its called Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear. He basically theorizes (using a fictional story line) that a virus all humans carry induces evolution. I really enjoyed the book, but unfortunately never got to finish it.
If you have time or inclination, check it out. Its a fairly intelligent book.

I'm AWARE, thanks Ona. I work in a department with lots of men around. Nothing but swearing and pouting going on the day after a game. I love the Pack, always will....but when they drive up the use of the Employee Assistance Program (a free counciling service at work) by 75%, we have a major problem on our hands.

it was always "satan's holiday" that i still tell my friends that i probably won't participate in the festivities when i decide to have children.. what do you guys do about this issue?

Room: I completely agree with your assesment of fall. All those things you mentioned do thrill me. They're my consolations to the fact that I can't play outside in the dirt for another 6 months.

Under74: Do you pass out candy at the door, and decorate your house? I haven't been able to do those two things yet. I'll admit to going to my sister-in-laws house one Halloween, but I just couldn't work up the nerve to pass out the treats. I was so nervous.
Any ideas about what I should dress like for a party I'm going to on the 31st? I don't think I'll ever get into the more ghoulish aspects of the holiday. I really can't think of any clever costumes, though.

My first was when I was 16 and had decided to be on prom court with my worldly boy friend. (Real boyfriends and girlfriends get to go on dates, and kiss....) The elders were all in a tizzy because I, supported by my parental units, chose not to follow their advice. The good 'ole boys were very "disappointed". (Can't you even hear the tone of voice used?) The young pioneer who was studying with me was talked to by them. She informed me later that week that she could no longer study or associate with me if I was going to be on the prom court.
WHAT? That one hit me out of the blue.
My second was when I was 17 and the elders decided to remove me and publicly announce me as a bad association. I had chosen on several occasions not to follow their instructions and I was setting a bad example for the other youth. My only choice at getting my friends/congregation back was to cut off all ties with my boy friend and work more diligently towards baptism.
Pah. It didn't take me too long to figure out who really cared for me, and wanted me around.
So I guess I was lucky, my only ultimatums came from the elders. Thank GOD I never got baptised!

It was always "Satan's Holiday" that I still tell my friends that I probably won't participate in the festivities when I decide to have children.
What do you guys do about this issue? I honestly still feel "different" from the rest of the world. I've been out since 1996, and have recently made the final chop to that stubborn umbilical cord. But while I enjoy most holiays and love my birthday gatherings, I just can't seem to give in fully to the holiday celebrations.
In what ways did you guys decide (or decline) to make the most of holidays?

And Cheech, I'm always interested in hearing about the stuff that's still occuring on the inside. I'm so glad you're here. But it makes me nervous that you'll be outed like 2laws was, with the stuff you give away about yourself. Its a big world, I know, but I am concerned for you. You'll make your exit when YOU'RE ready, I'm sure. I hope it goes that way for you.

The most painful part of my new awakening to the society has been that all of the pain caused to my family.....is because of man made rules hiding under "spiritual guidance". A load of crap. I'm more angry now than I ever was after I first stopped going.
