The organization on autopilot...I like that analogy.

I often correct my students (in music) when they 'go off on autopilot' and are not paying attention. In music it is not always a bad thing but to be in sync with a group who are reading music it can be bad. The dissonance is not pretty.

The borg are not reading the music...they don't see the key signature, the time signature, the rest, the count,....they are out of harmony and out of sync. Either fix it or please stop the discordant music. It's hurting the ears!

what were *your favorite *books in the organization?.

out of all of those books, i liked "mankind's search for god.

" however, it appears to me that this book is incredibly obscure and no one recalls studying it during the old book study format.

Like Steve I was that early nerdy reader type and loved the Babylon The Great book, first part only. I remember studying it as a child and then later reading it as a teenager. I believe they studied it again in the '70's. Then it was The Commentary on The Letter of James. Of course I liked that one! Ray Franz had a hand in it. I really did study those books and the other society offerings and in the end I could only say that it was because I studied them that I could no longer believe in the JW religion.

Geoffrey Jackson's Golden Apple watch INVESTIGATED

i went through the original footage to get a good look at the watch.. from these pictures we can probably say that it is a apple watch and that it has a golden color.

the color on the pin is black, and the band is white, grey, silvery or beige.. .

the pin is in the exact place for it to be a apple watch.. only apple watch edition have the gold color.

so i ran into this brother whom ive known for a while and the conversation led into me being invited to come back to the kingdom hall.

we talked for about an hour during which time i explained to him 607 being the wrong date and a lot of other stuff including the child abuse cases in australia.

but what i wanted to relate was the last few minutes of our conversation.

John Aquila, that was a difficult read and I have no doubt even more so experiencing it in person. There were, however so many assumptions. Not all exJW's are atheist for instance. There are other 'hopes' for an afterlife that are just as good if not better than the JW 'new system'.

I left the org just as my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 non Hodgkin's lymphoma. 14 years ago it was still pretty much bad bad news and basically terminal. At the time I was looking into reincarnation and other ideas involving what happens after our earthly demise. Suffice it to say, I found several other ideas far more comforting than being resurrected to a theocratic dictatorship! I still hold on to the idea that there is something more...my fantasy... but it gets me through this life AND I Can grow and live each day free.

Personally, I don't want to take away their hope. I just want the shunning stuff to stop.

There are so many scriptures that cancel each other out not to mention the ideas that people like Geofrey Jackson hold as their 'personal' feelings on the matter. So he doesn't believe in corporal punishment as per his interpretation of scripture but others taking it at face value.. they will take a belt or a stick to their kids in good conscience.

Oh! The hearings have recommenced!

I am so amazed at Angus's ability to 'laser in' on the points that needed to be made! I was, before Angus started in on the Deuteronomy scriptures, getting really weary of GJ quoting cherry picked scripture after cherry picked scripture like he was standing at a door (in the old days...they don't do that anymore) preaching. Yes, Angus can weild the 'silver sword' just as well. The Bible really is like an old fiddle you can play any tune on...I oughta know! I've played both the Bible and a fiddle!

Movies/Books for Cult Survivors

for me, there have always been special movies or scenes in movies that trigger my old jw experience (fiddler on the roof and little mermaid touched me deeply when i watched them as a young jw).

later as a survivor, it was more donnie darko, thx 1138 themes that struck me in particular.. anyway, looking for suggestions on great movies, books (art of any kind, really) that especially speak to or move you as a jw survivor?

there are reasons beyond purely entertainment that i ask..

I saw this posted on facebook. The little guy would run a few steps, fall down and get up and run a few more steps, fall down and get up...did that several times to the finish line. I applaud the little guy with tears in my eyes!

Can a video involving a christien having sex be viewed and used by elders?

lets say someone has a sexual encounter and a third party video taps it.

in canada, it would be illegal for the one that taped the video to show it to the elders as this would be "invasion of privacy".

what i am wondering however is if any legal action can be done against the elders and the wt if they view this video and take it into account in a judicial comity.

I believe this did happen to a young gay brother who was video taped by his own parents and the vid was used during his JC. Anyone remember that one? It was truly dispicable of his parents!
