The JW funeral talk outline - poor taste or REALLY poor taste?
by Mr. Falcon inso i attended a funeral for a jw who passed away (non-"annointed) and i would have to state that although i have heard the standard funeral talk outline for dozens of funerals i've attended, i never really took the time to listen.
and my god, i was cringing.
the outline is essentially broken down like this:.

My Story
by Crank!!! inmy story starts off the same way a lot of yours did, i was born into the jw cult in 1986. my mother got kicked out of her house for studying with her older sister when she was 15. my dad was also born into the jw world.
my mom and dad got divorced when i was 5 (my mother had scriptual grounds) so she raised my younger sister, brother and i mostly by herself.
because of her beliefs she adamantly did not want us having any worldly influences, so she chose to home school all of us.

Thanks for sharing. Stay strong, and hang in there. Many of us share your pain and loss. Its a great idea to use the shunning as a catalyst to NEVER allow this to happen to your own immediate family. Best, ~cab

At a loss what to do RE: JW family and my kids
by 2pink ini have 2 small kids, ages 4 and 5 yrs and one on the way (via adoption!).
my husband and i faded/suddenly disappeared last fall, never to go back to meetings.
we outed ourselves and told our super hardcore parents/family members that we didn't believe it anymore, were choosing a different path etc.

We are in the same boat. (Must be a big boat) Our kids were about that age (and younger) when we decided to leave. We live a couple of hours away from our families, so it may be a little easier.
The kids (and just the kids) were invited to a JW party a couple of weeks ago. We turned it down. We totally agree that by letting that happen, it teaches the kids that we as parents are doing something wrong, we know it, and respect the treatment, because we are wrong. Well, we do not believe that, and certainly do not want to teach our kids that.
For me, it's kind of strange. Growing up as a JW, I did not get to see any of my grandparents or extended family very much, because they were bad association. Now, the tables have turned, and the very same thing is happening for my kids, just the other way around. Boy, this religion really blows! Get out, stay out, and don't look back!

My daughter asked me this today.
by thenoblelodge inshe asked me why god didn't step in to stop tragedies.
for example, recently twin baby girls were attacked in their cots while their parents were down stairs.
both suffered life changing injuries.. my daughter knows a couple who have waited years for a baby and eventually had i.v.f.

The discussion of why bad things happen to good people is always interesting to me. I wanted to know how other people think about this subject. I read the book "The Shack" by William P. Young. The book does a good job of describing what it must feel like to believe in God, and how it all works. It is fiction, but still was pretty satisfying.

" He finally asked if I was going to make an effort to come back to the meetings and get reinstated--yes or no, he said, "to cut this conversation short." My response? "I can think of a way to cut this conversation short." [Click] [Dial tone] Hung up on him. "
Thanks for a great laugh!

Since Leaving "The Truth" Are You Really Happier?
by minimus inwitnesses say that when people leave "the truth", they get involved in a debauched life, misery, and general unhappiness.. they give experiences of some that left the "sweet fellowship" of the "brotherhood" and the awful results because of it.
then, they come back and their lives change 100% for the better!.
have you found life to be miserable and unproductive since "leaving jehovah"?.

It is bittersweet. Like so many others, we have lost most of our family members, and that hurts. We will always have our ups and downs, that's life. Overall, we are happier. I think that if we exjw's were unhappy because of leaving, we would simply return to the borg. The fact that most of us do not is a good sign that we as a group are happier out.
The witnesses actually want us to be unhappy. That is the whole point of shunning. By shunning us, we feel the pain of the loss. If we want to stop the pain, it's easy, just return to the borg. The borg tricks the family into thinking that by shunning the person who left, they are showing love to them. Our family really loves us!!!

I did.
Growing up in the org., it was a great privilege, a right of passage. I always enjoyed it, even looked forward to it. The meetings actually became interesting. However, I did not get to do it near enough. My hall required minimum monthly service totals, and good conduct. One of those was usually missing.
