Frenchy,
I've read your poem more now, and I love it. It has such a poignancy and sadness to it. Did you write it? I guess you did, as you said that The French Knight was using your account. Have you written more? Would you post it?

Frenchy,
Thanks for sharing that poem. It's so sad, but often so true. It's very cleverly written. I had to read it twice out loud to understand it.
Please, oh please!, give me the answer to the French Knight. Is it you, a famous book, poem? What is it?
Warmly,

Thanks for the remarks on the poem. It is true that it's a strange duality that makes you miss so much in the real life.
Hugs,

THE DOWN SIDE OF HOPE
(based on: "Expectation postponed makes the heart sick." --The Bible)
Is there something wrong with hope?
A reason to apply caution?
When you postpone living, it can be like dope
With life, you have poor adaptation.
The hope of a utopian paradise
Of perfect never-ending life
Stressed as worth any sacrifice
Does this lead to psychological strife?
The Witnesss believe this world is all-wicked
Their paradigm intensifies each occurrence
After every false alarm, more heartsick
Then settle down, work'g for Armageddon insurance.
Always faultfinding, interpreting all as prophecy
With this life, breeds dissatisfaction & ills
The JW life lacks all normalcy
"Oh, please hand me my Prozac pills."
The 'publishers' of this PUBLISHING Corp.
Don't wear rose-colored glasses.
No, theirs are stormy & black, to warp
All that's positive, as they sit on their asses.
Endlessly waiting for this system to end
Trivializes all the positive now.
Always compare this to that, this life they suspend.
And mental health is affected how?
What does this dream do to their psyche?
"Expectation postponed makes the heart sick."
So many have forfeited solvency;
It's the theocracy thru thin and thick.
The normal thinking process
That moves us to personal Odyssey
Is stultified and then most acquiesce.
Critical indenpendent thought is apostasy.
The JW hope is imminent, not far away.
Not like most who say "when kingdom comes!"
Their dream is not theirs to bring sway, Possesses their lives as they march to WT metronome.
From my own experience, loneliness abounds.
"The Christian cong. doesn't exist for social activities!"
If not of the socially elite, you're aground.
So for many, if not most, add lonely anxieties.
The psyche takes quite a beating in the cult.
It postpones life; in reasoning not skilled;
Increases guilt; steals life for youth & adult.
Busy as bees are they, but liberty's killed.

Thanks for letting me share!
Audrey, the Muse
some of the women on this forum may get offended by this, but i'm just offering it (cuz i wrote it!).
the virtues of men.
a challenge was given to me.
Thanks Frenchy (blush). Of course, it's not the whole of the story, as was alluded to in the poem, but methinks it's a valid viewpoint. Youse guys are great!
About your signature quote, is the French Knight a book, play, or what?
this is about evolution and even uses a phrase about religion in an ironic way.
it's based on bill cosby's "humans are the only creatures who allow grown kids to come back home.".
the natural way.
Waiting and Frenchy,
Thanks so much for reading my poetry. It's a new thing to me and it's great to be able to share some of it!
Maybe someday i'll 'come out' and reveal whose muse i am. :-)
Frenchy, i have a poem based on your wonderful signature quote, but it's too personal to post here. But thanks for that quotation--it's inspiring.
Edited to add this P.S.: Yes, Frenchy, it is a pain when people should be free to have them carrying the burden of responsibility of their reckless offspring. I saw bumper sticker that read:
IF YOU CAN'T FEED 'EM, DON'T BREED 'EM!
How true, how true.

THE NATURAL WAY
What can be deduced from contemplating nature?
All of life's origin is same DNA, "A-Z"
From the line of our own nomenclature?
Our branch of the Family Tree, the chimpanzee?
I remember 'Pody,' our kids' pony.
She had a half-horse colt, Star.
When he came of age, she brooked no baloney.
To enforce weaning, a swift kick did bar.
When Mom & Pop birds, w/families like ours,
Adjudge it's time for younguns to leave
It's outta the nest; fly or push up flowers,
They never allow offspring to cleave.
The bonobo, and other chimps
Would not consider grown kids
Their own style to crimp.
Posterity never leeches, "heaven" fobids!
This is natural selection at work
Only the fittest survive.
All that's present now, w/whatever quirk
Are proucts of the best; we do thrive!
The sage observed humans are unique
In cradling grown kids; they're nature distorting.
Nature bids young their own way seek.
Fly or die--this is with nature comporting.
(edited for a few typos--surprised it could be undertstood!)

THE VIRTUES OF MEN
A challenge was given to me
To name just two virtues in men.
I'll include the whole of history
In my ode that springs from my ken.
Where would humanity be by now,
What advances would be present,
If it weren't for the sweat of his brow
Who pursued progress thru perils incessant?
Beyond doubt, many women could and did
Contribute in numerouspowerful ways.
But for several complex reasons she's unbid;
Seemingly nature itself her hand often stays.
For reasons not addressed here in my ode,
Most advancement has been by men.
So, to give due credit to the fellows is bestowed.
Our world is largely due to their efforts, I pen.
The needed traits to get us here
Are still abundant in humankind.
One has but to consider
That valiant heroes of nine-eleven did find.
The bravery, courage, and strength;
Honor, valor, and sacrificing love
Were there for all to see the length
Menfolk displayed. Challenge met hereof.
just discovered this thread by going to who's who.. i guess i'll add my life story.. born and raised a dub, i didn't really mind being a witness but always had a secret desire to celebrate christmas, birthdays and halloween.
they always looked fun.. had a really fun time during the teen years, had some great friends and we did our share of partying, but never really got out of hand.
i was, for the most part, pretty good.
Oh hi Tweetiebird,
I really appreciate your sharing your story. It was very touching. Not that i'm promoting my own thread or poem, but parts of your emotions were mirrored in my poem i just put up on the "Poetry thread." i think you may enjoy it.
All the best,
Audrey
P.S. it's the very last post. the poem is about the WTS and 'apostates.'
don't come to this corner of the site often, but wow!
what a gem i found when i read this post this morning!.
i am a practising writer of poetry (in that i have been writing for years).
Wow, Missie Eff,
What a neat poem! And you've been writing for years . . .that's wonderful. You're really good and the way you express your appreciation for the power of a poem is so meaningful to me.
I've put another on my thread about the JWs and my exit. I hope you get time to read it.
Best regards!
