As far as evolution, the CC teaches that as long as one believes in a Creator, it doesn't matter if we want to believe there was an actual Adam and Eve, or a monkey, or a single cell. But that we accept the beginning of life as coming from God.

Catholic Church no longer swears by truth of bible?!
by daystar inthe gift of scripture
"the catholic bishops of england, wales and scotland are warning their five million worshippers, as well as any others drawn to the study of scripture, that they should not expect total accuracy from the bible.".
"but the first 11 chapters of genesis, in which two different and at times conflicting stories of creation are told, are among those that this countrys catholic bishops insist cannot be historical.

Hi stopthepain! Sounds to me like you are doing good. I don't know why so many replies are dissing you here ....I get where you are coming from. 'drinking the koolaid' isn't a direct hit on the victims at Jonestown, as terrible as that was. It is your way of saying that you did partake of the cult thinking, like so many others, you were sucked in by the sweet offerings they gave. Keep on making that distance from your past, although it will remain a part of you, it will grow more shadowed and less important as time goes on.
Peace,

The story of my life (part 7- Bethel, the end)
by onacruse inya know, it's odd how the "big" things just sometimes seem to bounce off your forehead, rather like seeing the trees instead of the forest.
well, fwiw, that was the state of mind (if you can call it that) i was in, after less than a year at bethel.
i was reassigned to the night-shift janitorial crew.

AuntieJane
Onacruse, thank you for sharing your story. I wish you well on the path of continued healing.
It is so good that you came here and took the time to journal your history. I, like others, would encourage
you to consider writing a book. Seriously. You are a gifted writer and this type of personal story should
get lots of attention!
Shalom,

What I think would be good is something about Mexico/Malawi....in Spanish. Can anyone give me a short paragraph/I can probably get it translated myself. But I need something short and to the point. Maybe something about the UN too.
THANKS!

Oh I agree, he is so talented. It made me sad to see his arrest pic a couple of years ago, for DUI. He was always
one of my favorite writers/singers. Nice to know I'm not the only one of my generation posting here!

Funerals~ church masses
by Pbanna ingot a question concerning funerals and church funeral mass.
i havent asked anyone this yet so i know you can help.. .
do jws believe in going to funerals or religious services other than jw.
-
AuntieJane
If you don't truly know the JW teachings on funerals, why would you explain you wouldn't go due to religious beliefs? I say, go, show your love and support for the deceased and their family.
This is what I know, from personal experience, about the JW teaching on funerals outside of the Kingdom Hall....it stinks. At my own brother's funeral, in a Christian church....his son and daughter, who choose to be JW's, stood right by the backdoor; they would not sit with the rest of their brothers and sisters at THEIR OWN FATHER'S funeral! How loving is that, I ask?? Is this what Jesus came to show us and teach us...to separate ourselves? I think not. All Christians, all non-Christians should have the freedom in their hearts to come together and pray TOGETHER.
My thoughts,

Would be interesting to compare it.If anyone can let me know, does the NWT say these words, or has it replaced JC with Jehovah?
Philippians 2:1-11 (brief version)
(Paul says:) If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness ; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves each looking ou not for his/her own interestes, but also for those of others.
Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus...Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himiself, becoming obedient to the point of death...
Because of this, God greatly EXALTED him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD BEND and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Peace, AuntieJane
