Witnesses at Target
by Aunty inis this happening anywhere else?
i'm in southern california and the jw's are sitting outside target at least twice a week with a table set up.
okay, when i was pioneering, this was a big no-no.

I was pretty inventive too when pioneering. We always did the laudromat starting time thing or killing a few hours in the pm by going to nursing homes. I'm just surprised they're set up like regular solicitors. What if someone mistakes them for the Salvation Army?! I always want to strike up a conversation, but then I think why make them work for their time?
Today's pioneers - they have it so easy. We had to walk 5 miles in the snow when I was pioneering! [8>]

The Watchtower is NOT a false prophet .. yes/no
by refiners fire indoes a prophet have to claim to speak for "god" to be a false prophet?.
can he be a false prophet if he claims to speak for someone else who speaks to god?.
can he be a false prophet if he interprets a biblical prophet in a new way?.

"I agree. And as far as I am concerned, that is ALL they do.
They imply.Someone show me where they have directly stated they are inspired by God Himself."
(sorry I haven't figured out how to do the quote thing yet)I think implying is worse. It's misleading. It's dishonest. It preys on people with limited education to discern what is really being said. I'm an example of this. I never realized all the double talk the WT puts in it's publications. But now that I've opened my mind, I see their words for what they are. I see what they imply.

The problem is that they imply they are. They play on people's fear of displeasing God. They also say if you follow the organization, you're doing all God wants you to do.
That's what worries people most - do we really know what God wants? And then here comes this organization that seems to have the answers and it's so easy to follow because you don't have to think for yourself.
If it quacks like a duck...it's a duck.

Is this happening anywhere else? I'm in Southern California and the jw's are sitting outside Target at least twice a week with a table set up. Okay, when I was pioneering, this was a big no-no. You weren't allowed to just "sit around" and get your time in. Anyway, I think it's amusing to see what lengths they're going to these days to get people to take info.

God says "hey man I`ll answer one question...
by Waygooder64 inhere is the scenario: god is bored one day and says to himself " lets give all the poor saps down below something to think about.lets give everyone on earth the opportunity to have one question answered truthfully" so that is my question,if you had the chance to have one question answered that you always wanted to know what would it be ?
any response counts and if you want to get goofy go nuts!
i would like to know if there really is life in outer space...

My questions is: What are the winning lotto numbers for this week?
See, this is what I figure. No matter what's true, I'm going to die someday. So intead of wondering what's going to happen after that, I want to live the grand life now. So, I'd say about 60 million would do that for me.

My heart is aching!
by Aunty inhi all - i was just reading the responses to the post on beating children in the washroom and my heart is aching remembering what it was like.
i literally have this hollow feeling in my heart right now remembering all the little children that were punished, and those who are still in, but have no way of knowing how different life can be.
you trust your parents to love and take care of you - and then they hit you - but you don't think, "hey they shouldn't do that" - you think, "i'm bad".

I am so addicted to Survivor. Check out the CBS website - you'll be surprised about Rob. He has some great credentials and is very bright. Not at all what I thought he was. He's definately one to watch out for. I agree about Sean, he just thinks everyone is against him because he's black - not remembering that he's a lazy butt that doesn't do anything! Curious enough, Gabe voted for Rob - not John like I thought he was going to.

Hi All - I was just reading the responses to the post on beating children in the washroom and my heart is aching remembering what it was like. It just makes me want to cry. Now, I do know that there are parents outside of the jw's that do spank/beat their children, but to encourage this behavior is just horrible.
Anyway, my point in posting separately was to mention that if you do contact social services about a certain family, they will investigate (at least they do in the US). Even if this is a simple phone call to their office reporting what you've observed. They will at least interview the parents and the children separately and determine if they should do anything. Maybe this would be a wake-up call if suddenly several families in each cong were being reviewed.
I'm not about retaliation - my own life in the jw's and coming out hasn't been bad - just a though I wanted to share. (I called on my neighbors once since they were always hitting their 1 1/2 yr old baby) People are sick!!

This topic really hit home with me. I was never spanked very often(too scared to be bad!), but my nephews and nieces got it regularly - and for the very serious offense of whispering during the meeting - how dare they! To tell you how sick this is, about two months ago my Dad had the gall to say he should have spanked me more when I was little, that way maybe I wouldn't have left the borg. My goodness, can you get any sicker than that? I really don't blame him though because there is immense pressure, especially if you're an elder or ms to "keep your kids in line".
I've told my husband that my family is to never get custody of our infant son if anything were to happen to us. So we're picking about 10 guardians from his side of the family.
