Are any of you familiar with it? I just received a copy of Thomas Jefferson's bible. Not his personal bible but the bible coined as the 'The Jefferson Bible'. Jefferson was a Deist and an enlightened founding father here in the United States. He viewed Jesus as a great philosopher who wrote an outstanding 'moral'. Jefferson cut out of the Gospels what he deemed to be worthwhile passages that did not go into all the supernatural (for example his bible ends with Jesus burial place having a stone rolled in front of it w/o the ressurection story) and pasted them into his own version. It is a thin, very thin copy of the four main gospels but I have to agree it is about all that is necessary to concentrate on.Are any of you familiar with it? A True Scholar In Our Midst, Leolaia
by Skoshi inher posts for a very long time were overflowing with an obvious scholarship.
i have avidly read her posts and have tucked away as much as my much smaller brain could be forced to take in.
i'm sure others have openly expressed their admiration and appreciation for her, but i would like to do so here.

Sure it's possible. The above sounds like how it went for me as well.

September km- They're coming for you
by sspo in.
in sept. km under announcements, loving provision from jehovah, elders are being reminded to make the yearly visit to all those that have been df or da.. make sure you have some good coffee or a six pack for them.. treat them kindly and with respect, the gb is very much interested in all those that they kicked out.

Somehow I think I fit into the category of 'apostate, have made it known I don't want their help, and possessing dangerous, critical attitude, wrongdoer....'
I doubt I will be receiving a visit.

Spiritual Meaning of Watchtower Legal Defeats
by metatron inover 60 years ago, the watchtower society assembled a remarkable record of hard fought legal victories that had the .
long term effect of carving out a protected niche for themselves.
they were enabled to create many decades of .

Has anyone ever compiled a list of these defeats for all to see? I believe most active JW's believe the WT society almost never loses in court.

Remember when KH's had a piano and real singing?
by WingCommander inthe thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.

I personally can play about 8 different musical instruments, taught myself to play most of them.
You know I am going to make a request to hear some of that now don't you? I personally play a pretty mean "Life Without End at Last" on the acoustic guitar.

Ever wonder if an old friend turned apostate?
by beautifulisfree ini often wonder if my old witness friends from my past are still in the 'truth' (god i hope not)?
i know this site is pretty popular amongst ex-witnesses.
and since most of us have 'fake names'...we could be talking to someone that we already know.

I've been able to get back together with two different old friends (one was my ex brother-in-law) I hadn't seen in close to 20 years since I left the borg. Neither have any interest in these boards as they long ago moved on but they definitely have apostate views. It's a great thing to re-connect like that. Amazing how even after all that time and drama friends will always be friends.

Resolutions at Meetings
by bavman inhave you ever seen a congregation not raise enough hands to make a resolution pass?
-
bavman
Stop it Carla. You're bringing back bad memories for me...lol. Yeah, now that you mention it, I do remember a lot of situations like that where big fusses would be made and the elders running around trying to do damage control.

I actually do remember an elder talking about a situation like the one you described Blondie. He was peaved at the elder who decided to bring up the resolution on that particular night because he knew a lot of the 'supporters' would be out of town.
