  Does the Bible scare anyone else here sometimes?

  maybe i'm just messed up, but i get really freaked out sometimes.

  i can't understand the bible,.....in some places it seems like it's saying all you have to do is one or two things, then it seems like it's saying you have to do different things to be saved.... so many different people and religions have so many different takes on the bible.

  i don't know which to beleive, and it scares me that if i beleived the wrong thing that i could go to hell, or just go to sleep forever as the witnesses say.

  Whatever decision you make now will be lifealtering.

  That is true... and it could be life ending if you ever need a blood transfusion.

  You COULD return to the society someday but the likelyhood is quite small.

  That's also true. I wonder why so few return to the "one true religion?" We must all be suicidal idiots.

  As far as going to the elders....just be careful what you ask or say to them. Even asking them sincere questions about the biblical validity of the claims of the FDS or about the flimsy 1914 doctrine can get you disfellowshipped. So if that's not what you want don't let someone encourage you to take such a dangerous risk. (that's my poo-poo on the idea!) You may be able to leave a bit more quietly than that. Just something to consider. You do have a lot to lose. If I had it to do over again I would avoid getting Df'ed at all cost. My dad and sister were both able to avoid it.....they NEVER went to the elders. I did.

  Afin - it is interesting that you have yet to post any scriptural support for you assertions. I have also recently asked my mom for support of her statement that God has "always" used a person or an organization. I didn't get any scriptures....she had a "headache." It is also interesting that you discounted Leolaia's (sp?) excellent and scholarly explanation of the puncuation issue and seemed to say that you have 100% confidence in the WTS translation of the bible. Yet it also seems you have no idea who translated it or what their qualifications were for doing so. You are just certain, that they are more qualified than anyone on this Board. Tell me, how could they be more qualified when college is so strongly discouraged - especially for the older generation. Do you really think the translation committee broke their own rules and went to college??

  Missy - Thank you for posting a very good question. One I'm sure troubles many who examine the Bible. I'd also like to apologize that your thread has been hijacked - although some very good points have been made - and we have a very good example of blind submission to an organization.

  Yes, I also am frightened at times when I read the Bible - mostly the OT. God in the OT is just plain mean. Sorry if that offends anyone but come on - He killed Lots wife for looking back on her burning home, family, friends, keepsakes and pets. Why not have pity on her grief process? I have hundreds of other similar questions. Ananias and his wife were killed instantly for greed. Who among us (JW's included) have never been guilty of a moment of greed?

  So I'm not sure what the answer is. I do read the bible - mostly to clear up all the religious abuse I suffered and to see for myself what the bible says - without added distortions or mental gymnastics. I do appreciate Christ's words - He was very kind, loving and non-judgemental. I wonder what he will say when it comes time to judge people who blindly follow - and blame their beliefs and actions on their religious leaders?

  I do also pray and feel confident that my prayers are answered. I also think its important to realize that as JW's (as is true in other cults) we have been subjected to phobias.. So it makes sense that you are filled with fear --- Please keep reading - I do believe in a God of Love.

  he became 82 on may 8, the wt propagated news long ago about his death has been "exaggerated".

  he always gets back to me even if takes some time to write.. recently he received shipping of 3000 copies of crisis of conscience (4th edition), 158 cartons.. but he is getting help now from (edited), a russian young man, including managing his website www.commentarypress.com.. he is starting to get feeback from latin america such as mexico, chile, argentina and others.

  internet is getting around i guess.. pending on his family health issues, he wants to go back and revisit puerto rico and dominican republic where he started his "career", becoming branch overseer, and is well known...

  Do they going to change doctrine again ? WT Oct,1st 2004,pg12,para14.

  according to the watchtower issue october 1st 2004 page 12, paragraph 14: "a second way that organized religion dishonors god is through the conduct of its adherents.

  christians are expected to follow the teaching of jesus.

  among other things, jesus taught his followers to "love one another" and to remain "no part of the world.".

  Did you read the book "1984" of Georges Orwell?

  this book is one of the best book i've ever read.

  it describe well the technics that the watchtower use to manipulate their jehovah's witness.

  I've read it about 3 times. The first time was in 1984 - I was 16 and had to read it in my 11th grade English class. I loved the book and it was my favorite for a long time. I couldn't have told you why I loved it so much....I never drew the first parallel. But when I saw it mentioned on internet sites like this it made perfect sense!!! I was so blind.

  the book, reasoning from the scriptures does not inform the reader on who are the nwt scholars nor their education background.

  could someone provide some information concerning the nwt scholars?

  Its brilliance can only be appreciated by reading and using it and comparing it with ALL other inferior translations

  I see he's not going to provide anything we asked for. As if we have never read it or compared it with other translations. Only he has.

  The only proof I need that the NWT is deceptive is this: The doctrine came first - then the NWT.

  The WTBTS first denied the diety of Christ then changed the Bible to fit. Not the other way around. They came up with the name "Jehovah's Witnessess" then added "Jehovah" to the OT. Not the other way around.

  So if the doctrines are supposedly FROM the bible - How could it be, when the bible they used at the time of formulating the doctrine was - according to them - incorrect?

  one that comes readily to mind is the use of the words one or ones when referring to people.

  Yea - I noticed it in a letter from my mom. She said "entire inhabited earth." Now what is the point of that statement? Why not just say entire earth? or the whole earth? or how about "everyone"? It's cult-speak plain and simple. Hallmark sign of a cult - a special language.

  JWs Proselytizing on University Campus!!!

  imagine my horror as i walked out of my french class this morning to see someone setting up a table, covered in lovely royal blue felt, with two tiers of watchtower literature attractively displayed.

  imagine my chagrin when i realized who the "sister" was who was going to sit outdoors and chat up passersby: my former congregation's po's wife!.

  i am not sure what university policy is in general as regards proselytizing on campus (but i intend to find out).

  Yes, franklin, she has freedom of speech/religion, but then again, so do I. And that "religion" is a mind-control group that is destructive to its adherents and their families and thus to the fabric of American society. God Bless America!

  That's exactly what I was gonna say! They can no longer harm me - but I do care that they can harm others. My deepest respect to you for taking action!!

  There are plenty of lonely and scared young people on college campuses - that makes them vulnerable - Just how the JW's like 'em.
