THe only reason that I know of for the 1914 chronology to matter in the least is that the JW's base their predictions for armageddon on it. CLEARLY they are WRONG. So what's the point, really?

Found an Awake at the rest stop today..and I knew exactly what to do....

found it at a rest stop today while traveling.

i thought about tossing it, but decided it had a much better purpose.

it was an issue on what to teach your young child - cute picture of a little girl (about 4 years old) on the cover.. so - i took it to my car, got out a pretty purple pen and wrote on the cover "this religion has a major probelm with pedophiles and is hurtful to young children.

Gdt - I am also glad you do not have first hand experience of child abuse. Do you mean to imply it doesn't happen because YOU haven't experienced it? So many of us have. So much documentation. Do you really think just keeping silent is the best course to take??? And you would call that grace????

It not only happened to me - it happened to several of my young friends - and much more severely to them. Its a terrifying thing to have happen and to see nothing happen to the perpetrators. I felt so powerless. I got confronted by an elder for holding hands with a JW boy who was my age. But nothing happened when I was fondled by a married elder 3x my age. Where is the grace?

And I agree - A world with no babies would be no paradise to me.

My mom is a witness because she lost her first child - I don't think she ever got over that and can't handle the thought of any other realities. Poor lady - walked away from her live children (and beautiful grandchildren) to obsess over her dead one.

Did Rutherford believe what he wrote?

who thinks "judge" rutherford really believed what he wrote?.

i believe it was in the salter letter where it is stated that rutherford said once that he had "bluffed his way through life".

think he also "bluffed" his way when writing and talking about "the theocracy"?

Rutherford once said to a convention that he was not the head of the Jehovah's Witnesses. That was a very, very insideous way of actually increasing his hold/power on the followers.

Very interesting statement....can you say more about why that is?

Also, what is the Salter letter?

I think Rutherford was a smart businessman. Do we have any evidence to indicate that he actually believed it? That would mean he built those California houses for Abraham, Isaac, etc....who clearly are in heaven (according to scriptures). I don't believe he really expected that to happen. C'mon he was an attorney, right? No offense to attorney's - but I think that says he had some smarts for business and financial affairs and was adept at finding loopholes. I think he, like L.Ron Hubbard, knew that the best way to sell books was to "start a religion."
