  Face it - some people WANT to be a JW!

  after many many conversations with my family i've come to the conclusion that some people just want to be a witness.

  they need that security of being told all the answers - of having their decisions made for them - and the tight social group they're involved in.. the truth is - it's much harder when you don't have all the answers and you have to think for yourself.

  i guess some people just aren't ready to face that.

  Surely you must know how much strength it takes every week to want to go face-to-face with all sorts of people with all sorts of anti-God, anti-faith, anti-anything attitudes

  Yes, I remember the courage it took as a young person to knock on doors and hope to no end that one of my classmates would not open the door because I also remember the courage it took to endure the teasing and ridicule at school. But I was young and did what I was told out of fear. Do you really think its strength that allows adult JW to avoid doing research into their religion cult? Is my mom strong for shunning me for the past 18 years despite Jesus' teachings about love and forgiveness. I don't think its strength - I think she's brainwashed and would probably have a nervous breakdown if she knew the truth about the truth.

  What a touching letter. I imagine that even if you do not get the response you are hoping for you feel stronger for having made the effort.

  I am also about to send my mom a letter and am having difficulty accepting the inevitable daily mail checking for her response that may never come. Hopefully your brother isn't as lost in the borg as my mom.

  Someone should point out to them that "Jehovah's promise" has been removed from the Awake magazine. "Oops - sorry -- new light on the promise...won't need to explaine anything to your son anytime soon afterall. I mean, we never said anything about a promise. Some eager beaver JW's made assumptions about the term "generation." Don't you know the bible says that we don't know when it will happen??"

  best evidence youve found to turn someone

  whats the best evidence youve found to make someone fall out of the truth?

  its kind of a hard decision for me to drop out right now because i was raised in it.

  plus i have some friends at my congregation that i grew up with.

  I didn't leave because of evidence - I was DF'ed. I have since obtained the evidence by reading Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz. Its a must read, IMO, for any JW or exJW. Also, Quotes.com is a great site - they only use WT quotes to illustrate the insanity of the cult.

  charles taze russell, founded the jw in the 1860's.

  which is based on his own interpretations of the bible.

  he had no theology education, and did not know the greek, and hebrew language.. question: how can an average man, with "no" education, interpret the bible correctly?.

  Great post truthseeker. I loved the subtle close.

  If there are JW's on this site I would imagine that the only reason they are still JW's is that they have not yet been caught on this message board. Once caught participating in an apostate forum they will be quickly and assuredly booted from the JW organization. So I am left to wonder if a these people are REAL JW's then since they obviously don't adhere to JW doctrines.

  As to the posted question. They are good questions. Another good question is concerning Russell's involvement in the Freemasons and pyramidology.

  i read the thread yesterday about apostates and started wondering about your families.

  i am thinking about writing a letter to my mom and sharing with her some of the things i have learned about the jw's but also realize that this will make me an apostate and will worsen an already distant and painful relationship.

  i am hoping that some of you will share your experiences on what impact your outspoken "apostacy" has had on your families - how have they reacted to you.

  I read the thread yesterday about apostates and started wondering about your families. I am thinking about writing a letter to my mom and sharing with her some of the things I have learned about the JW's but also realize that this will make me an apostate and will worsen an already distant and painful relationship. I am hoping that some of you will share your experiences on what impact your outspoken "apostacy" has had on your families - how have they reacted to you.

  I also feel a bit obligated to share the information with her. I am sure she would never look at any information on her own. I also have a conflicting feeling that its her choice and the information is out there if she wants to know.

  Any advice is welcome.

  Hi Lehaa

  Welcome to the board. Great post. I was also thinking of starting a thread about book recommendations. I've only read Ray Franz Crisis of Conscious and highly recommend it. I literally couldn't put it down. It was very disturbing though - lots of irrefutable information.

  Looking forward to checking back on this thread.
