Uh-oh...sounds like they are in. I don't really have any advice for you. I would love to get my mom out - she has been shunning me for 18 years. I don't want to apologize for anyone else but a lot of us have been harmed so horribly by this cult - it can be hard to not sound angry or sarcastic when talking about it.

im 17 and raised in the truth, my dad is a ms in the congregation, and i run the literature room.
Crizlee and Obviously Secret - I wish I could just give you guys a hug! You are like prisoners doing time until you can be free and live your own life. Good for you both that you are here exploring life and reclaiming your mind!!! You've been given good advice by some others about being careful with your anonymity. Its great that you have each other for support. The convention is a good idea...you can tell your folks that's where you met.

Welcome to forum - its a great place! I've been DF'ed for 18 years but only recently learned about all the lies and hypocracy. It really is apalling. I also regretted missing out on time - mostly in regards to my career and money. I'm behind to say the least. It also angers me that my mom will have nothing to do with me - that she chooses a pack of lies over me. Hearing others cope with similar circumstances on this board is a GREAT help to me.

after many many conversations with my family i've come to the conclusion that some people just want to be a witness.
they need that security of being told all the answers - of having their decisions made for them - and the tight social group they're involved in.. the truth is - it's much harder when you don't have all the answers and you have to think for yourself.
i guess some people just aren't ready to face that.
Surely you must know how much strength it takes every week to want to go face-to-face with all sorts of people with all sorts of anti-God, anti-faith, anti-anything attitudes
Yes, I remember the courage it took as a young person to knock on doors and hope to no end that one of my classmates would not open the door because I also remember the courage it took to endure the teasing and ridicule at school. But I was young and did what I was told out of fear. Do you really think its strength that allows adult JW to avoid doing research into their religion cult? Is my mom strong for shunning me for the past 18 years despite Jesus' teachings about love and forgiveness. I don't think its strength - I think she's brainwashed and would probably have a nervous breakdown if she knew the truth about the truth.

What a touching letter. I imagine that even if you do not get the response you are hoping for you feel stronger for having made the effort.
I am also about to send my mom a letter and am having difficulty accepting the inevitable daily mail checking for her response that may never come. Hopefully your brother isn't as lost in the borg as my mom.

its kind of a hard decision for me to drop out right now because i was raised in it.
plus i have some friends at my congregation that i grew up with.
I didn't leave because of evidence - I was DF'ed. I have since obtained the evidence by reading Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz. Its a must read, IMO, for any JW or exJW. Also, Quotes.com is a great site - they only use WT quotes to illustrate the insanity of the cult.
