  personally, i consider myself as a "soft-atheist".

  i don't believe in god but i keep an open mind and if someone can come with a real proof of god's existence, i'll take it.

  for now, i consider that believing in god, is just as silly as believing in santa claus.

  I do believe in God....and I do not understand God. God is just what I call the higher order to the universe or the positive energy. I don't know. I just know there is something other than the physical world - something more powerful than me and you. I definitely do not believe in the OT god or the biblical creation story.

  Welcome to JWD Sid.

  I am addicted too. I think at first especially. It is extremely validating to know that others have experienced things that I have, until now, been unable to even put into words. The people here make it funny, make it make sense and provide support and encouragement. I never knew I could get that anywhere. I felt so alone in my experience of being a DF'ed JW.

  I don't take it with a grain of salt. Our experiences are real. I know that when I found out I had been so betrayed and lied to in the name of GOD - it was hard to trust anything. Sort it out for yourself. I, for one, have no need to lie to you.

  I don't think THAT's what's clear at all. Why bother??? Because that's my mother being held hostage by a bunch of lies, that's why!!! I wish someone in her congregation would drop her an easy to hear little gem of truth. Then maybe I could visit my mother again in this lifetime.

  Why would you want people to continue to live a lie? Just because they enjoy it?! How absurd is that? Has anyone in YOUR family died from refusing a blood transfusion? Ever been molested by a "brother"? Have some compassion. We're jumping down your throat because we have strong feelings about it. Our feelings became strong because of various things we have experienced.

  I'm glad someone who's in a position to actually HELP is trying to find an acceptable way to do so. My hats off to you!

  I love it!! I like how you assume they are aware of all the lies and abuses. It challenges them when they catch themselves thinking "I don't know what he's talking about."

  It is too bad they don't really care. If they did- a concerned elder would show up at your and discuss your concerns. LMAO

  They will probably care more that your family and friends know you are an apostate and try to pressure them into shunning you.

  got to be honest an say i'm supprissed cofc is not on the net in some offical form.

  any good reason why its not there?

  lets think, if i was a executive in a pharmaceutical company that gave out drug that were harmful, i then realised the drugs were bad, but the rest of the exectives didn't want to know and chucked you out,you lost your money and pension but you had the infomation to help people who had taken the bad drugs , would you, .

  I just wonder, if a person is ready for CoC then won't they go ahead and read it - if even at the library. If the person is still in the mindset of sneaking a peek on the internet - I wonder if they could handle it?

  But, I do agree that a for-pay downloadable version would be great. I don't think Ray should give it away for free. He lost so much and the only thing he knows is writing -- it seems obvious to turn it into a profession.

  Before people join the WT - they have every opportunity to do the research on their new cult. Many choose not to. They choose to donate $$ to the WT and buy their books and magazines rather than buy a book that can provided them with important information. A better analogy might be taking a medication without reading the disclaimer regarding known side effects -- then complaining that the medication made you blind.

  my jw wife expresses horror at the though of looking at apostate mormon and mason websites for information on them as they are likely to be biased and untruthful and populated by people with a chip on their shoulder who will lead you astray as to the truth about them.. she has been invited to attend an open day at the masonic lodge on sunday by a good friend (a high ranking mason) of ours, and to bring other members of 'her group' with her.. i read her the first few paragraphs from http://www.ephesians5-11.org/ex_masons_for_jesus/mensclub.htm .

  suppose that a group of pagans got together and decided that they wanted to form a men?s club and each man independently decided that he wanted to start every meeting with a prayer to his demon god.

  they could all agree to this, but they would have a rough time selecting a name which all could embrace.

  everyone in my family - sister, aunts, uncle's step-mom - called or emailed about hurricane ivan -- except my mom.

  of course it hurts my feelings - but i don't know why i would expect or hope for a caring gesture like that from her.

  she has never, in the last 20+ years, given me any reason to think that she cares about anyone or anything other than her jw cult practices.

  Thanks for the hug Annie!

  I told my youngest daughter just before Frances was about to hit---that I wanted her to go to her ROOM, NOW! (I meant her room upstairs here in upstate NY!)

  That's sweet. I hope she appreciates having a "room" to go to and a mom who wants her there. The feeling of having a "home" to go to is priceless. I miss being able to "go home" but I'm learning to do that for myself!

  Welcome 2evil!! Congrats to you for opening your mind and asking some very important questions. I'm not an exelder or anything so I'm not really qualified I guess....but Ray Franz is and so I also highly recommend his book. Steven Hassan has also written some excellent books about mind control that can help you deal with the nagging doubts you are having.I also wanted to address this comment:

  The organization cannot be stopped.

  If that is evidence that the organization is "God's Organization" then the same logic could easily be applied to many, many other organizations and cults including the Catholic church, Scientology, Mormons, etc. That would mean that every organization we find that cannnot be stopped is of God. I think its easy to see that statement is not true.

  THe JW's have some very black and white thinking. Their organization continues on because of a lot of reasons. A few are: Armageddon phobias, disfellowshipping doctrines, emotional needs met by the control of the organization and magical answers provided by the organization, etc. I wonder how long their organization would last if they quit DFing people. How many would leave or quit going in field service if it weren't for fear of being DF'ed and losing all their friends and family. How many would read "apostate" literature if it weren't demonized by the WT? How many new people would join if they were totally honest from the start about their failed armageddon dates?

  Good luck on your journey! You have a lot of research to do. There is a lot of good information out there and many helpful people on this board.

  Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes. Everything turned out fine. In fact our thunderstorms are usually much worse in New Orleans!

  So sorry for all the people in Gulf Shores and Pensacola area. Anyone on this board from there? What a terrible mess they have down there. Sad thing. So glad so many evacuated!
