I am so excited about being part of the Secret Santa this year and was wondering - since Gadget is so kindly organizing this for us - how does he get a secret santa. I would hate for him to be left out.

My niece, age 13, got baptized this weekend
by starfish422 ini know they're desperate for new members for that annual service report; but she is wayyyyy too young to know what she's doing to her life.
:( there should seriously be a minimum age for this.

I was baptized at 13 - one of the biggest mistakes of my life! Now my mom tells me "I knew you were too young - but you didn't think so." I also thought I was old enough to date, drive a car, get married, drink and do whatever else I wanted to do.
One thing for sure - If you are not old enough to LEAVE - you're not old enough to JOIN.

Today, I'm Going To Bring The "Crisis of Conscience "Book To My Mother
by minimus inmy mother has been expressing to us how she reluctantly is beginning to see that the organization indeed has some problems.
she is starting to "feel" that things aren't right.
this past thursday, they gave a "marking" talk for my daughter who hasn't attended a meeting in years.

Min - unless your mom has had a total psychotic break - on some level she KNOWS the elder was not at the wedding. Maybe he was in his car spying - but not AT the wedding. I think I'd just agree with her - "yes, mom, I know he was at the wedding. I saw him there with my own 2 eyes." Then let her deal with her confused reality. I might also remind her how important it is for her to pioneer - that it is a command from Jesus/God/GB - that they are not letting her fulfill a clearly stated commandment because of one of their NOT clearly stated rules.
It sounds like she is making a little progress -- you know sometimes its "1 step forward and 2 steps back."

A religion with nothing to Celebrate
by eyeslice inhow sad that the witnesses have nothing to celebrate.
the more i think about it since i stopped going to the meetings, the more i feel that spirituality and religion are about opportunities to give thanks and to celebrate life with family and friends.
christenings or name giving ceremonies celebrate the gift of a new life to a family.

GO BLONDIE!! Enjoy your tree. I think it really adds a lot of warmth to a home!
Garybuss:
A society is measured by how it benefits it's people. If the Witness movement was a government with their own country, they would be viewed by the rational world as one of the worst on the planet. They are identified by mental illnesses, broken families, a depressed economy, submission to a dictatorship called a theocracy, they have irrational, delusional goals, and wealthy leaders living in opulent communes.
An environment that confines space, controls associations, limits information, and where all activities focus on achieving the goals of the leaders to the detriment of the people is not a society, it's a prison. And people plot ways to break out of prisons.Well said! That is profound!
My family always celebrated my parents anniversary. We all gave each other presents and enjoyed a fancy meal together. It was so obviously a loophole....something we "could" celebrate - so we did. I don't understand why it's okay to celebrate the birth of a relationship (that caused so much pain to all people involved) but not okay to celebrate the birth of a God-given life.
Just more evidence of their inability to think or reason.

Bad news about the house. : /
by Elsewhere ini have been holding off making a public announcement for awhile because i have been waiting for all of the paperwork to become official... but the company that is building my house has been dragging their feet, trying to delay the inevitable.. the bottom line is this: i won't be able to buy the house.
when i was doing contract work, i was making x amount of money.
i had anticipated a pay cut caused by my becoming a permanent employee, but the pay cut turned out to be more substancial than i had anticipated.

I think you are shrewd to not get in over your head or too far over your comfort level. I bought a house last year and decided to buy in a neighborhood that wasn't my 1st choice but definitely a lot more affordable. I see it as an opportunity to own property and to begin building my wealth. Its just a stepping stone. I'm sure something will come along for you that is a better fit...and you will be glad you waited!
Good Luck!

Three Questions
by StinkyPantz in.
if you were guaranteed honest responses to any three questions, who would you question and what would you ask?

To my mom:
1. Was it worth it to give up your 2 living children, husband, and 2 living grandchildren for the (false) hope of seeing your dead baby again?
2. Who was your favorite? Me or my sister?
3. Which is better, being a martyr or a victim?

Welcome French Toast!!!
I hope you're not scared of apostates. We're just regular people. I know I definitely have enjoyed more intellectually and spiritually enlightening discussions here than anywhere else. No comparison to the 4th grade level, run on sentences, twisted logic of the WTBTS.
I would highly recommend that you check out the "best of" topics. I guarantee you will be glued to your computer screen for hours.....just be sure to take breaks to feed your kids!
Again....WELCOME!!!!

It is carved on a wall facing the UN.
by Blueblades inno matter what your beliefs, the words of the prophets still ring out for all humankind: carved on a wall facing the united nations headquarters in new york is one of isaiah's most powerful -- and as -- yet -- unfullfilled -- prophecies: "and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
nation shall not lift up sword against nation.
neither shall they learn war anymore.".

It won't happen while Bush is in office --That's for sure.
THe swords will be reduced to liquid steele when the "nucular" weapons start going off though.
I think the sun will burn out before humans become so peaceful and loving as to stop fighting.
Just my .2c I hope I'm wrong!!!
