We walked out of my mom's memorial service

I am damn steaming mad after reading what they did to you. I sure hope you called the local newspaper. THAT would make for an excellent witness.

That's just so sickening. And it's amazing that they just don't get that JESUS NEVER ACTED LIKE THAT!! They're just a bunch of ignorant hate mongers if you ask me.

I am truly so sorry for your loss - the loss of your mother and the loss of part of the grief process - where people bond together and provide support, comfort and love to one another. I hope you have that elsewhere. But where do these people get off excluding you from your own mother's memorial service? Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. I hate those MF's more than ever.

Advice/Venting

my mom sent me an email saying that she'd like to slap my sister silly for the way she(sister) has treated her (mom) all these years.. my sister was never baptised and successfully did the fade by moving to another state - so my mom can have whatever type of relationship she wants with her - based on jw dogma.

but my sister can't stand our mom -- basically because she's crazy, mistreated us, and shuns me -- and my sister won't speak to her.

my mom has never met my sister's kids because of the whole thing.

But my sister can't stand our mom -- basically because she's crazy, mistreated us, and shuns me -- and my sister won't speak to her. My mom has never met my sister's kids because of the whole thing. Mind you, my mom has never apologized for anything, discounts my sisters concerns and doesn't even try with her. Just sits there waiting for my sister to welcome her into her life (and save her from the prospect of living in a nursing home since, it turns out, the FDS was wrong about the whole "generation" thing.)

So my mom has the nerve to tell me that she's upset about the way my sister treats her. How can she not get that my sister is only reacting to all the crap she's put us through. How can she think its any worse to be shunned by her daughter than for me to be shunned by her? Does she really think that because she justifies her behavior with a coulple of misapplied scriptures that its all okay. To me, it makes more sense that my sister got fed up and called it quits before she and her children got hurt anymore.

Damn - that pisses me off. I'm postponing a response to her because all I want to do is go OFF on her. Which would do no good because she will NEVER get it.

Any advice on a response would be helpful.

THanks for letting me vent.

If God did have a new system..would you want to be there?

i was a witness for over forty years and for most of that time the "new world" "paradise" was not a place i ever wanted to live in.. there are many aspects of life in the 21st century that are great and i wouldn't want to give up.

tv, internet, blues/jazz clubs etc etc.. i may be shallow.

but there were other better reasons millions of people would have gone, wiped out by god: this never sat easy with me.. i told my elder father that i wouldn't want to live five minutes in god's new system, knowing that people i loved, had been killed by god because they didn't love him in the way he wanted.. just telling my father that has made me really wake up to how i really feel about my ex religion.. does a paradise earth as jw's depict appeal to you?

Well, imagine this - you could sign up for the first 1000 years and do what ever you wanted to do and not die. You could kill your enemy every day for 1000 years. You could go parachuting and not wear a parachute. Mountain climbing - no gear. Rollerblading - no pads. Dive to the depths of the ocean and then pop right back up - no problem. Jump off of a cliff and enjoy the fall and not die. So, Yeah - it would be like totally awesome!!!! Besides...I love fruit!!!!

its funny that when i imagine what other posters look like - i alway imagine them as attractive, fit, well groomed, with bright, shiny happy faces.

i never see them as obese, nerdy, or with greasy hair and warts and pimples.

their noses are never too big - no body has a "comb-over.

How many of you still hope to live forever?and where,? based on what?

call me crazy but from reading the bible ,assuming one believs it its pretty plain at least the earth will stand to times indefinate.please if you have an opinion please give the support to it.. thanks in advance.. i dont know nuttin.

I don't think I ever really believed that I would live forever. It's just preposterous. That would mean that I would be wandering this planet for millions, trillions, billions of years and on and on and on. With the same body, same heart, lungs, skin, etc. Same other people. That means that we would NEVER, ever, ever depleat the earth of its natural resources. It also means - what someone else said - that sun will NEVER burn out. The earth will NEVER be hit by a large meteor.

Up until this point - God seems to live by natural laws - not magic. To believe that a human being was meant to live FOREVER and that the earth will survive FOREVER - requires belief in a great deal of magic.

If you really think the plan through it sounds like misery. I think God has a better plan than that. Something that maybe we can't even dream up.

ive been reading here for quite a while but never felt the need to join in.

I do know that the people that truly believe in the organization, believe in it whole heartedly. These are good people and if thats what they choose, its fine with me. I just dont know what my choice is.

But Buck - they didn't CHOOSE it. That's like saying a drug addict choose to be a drug addict. They thought getting high looked good - so they tried it and before you know it they are stealing their mama's TV set to get more.

When people begin studying with JW's they are NOT fully informed about what they are getting into. It is a very subtle process. When they knock on your door they WILL NOT tell you about shunning, failed prophecies, blood doctrine, alterations to their "bible," hatred and demonization of other religions. Even if you ask - they will not tell you whole truth because then, who the heck would sign up?

In the past, people believed wholeheartedly that the world was flat. So belief doesn't mean much does it. It's not fine by me that 6 million people are misled - DELIBERATELY by an organization and called upon to sacrifice their life, freedom, children and family. They are told to avoid information about the JW's other than what the JW's appprove of. Why would they do that? What are they afraid of?

i am so glad that i found this site.

i have been reading these posts and they have made me feel so much better.

my family was "in the truth" when i was little, and i feel like i really had a messed up child hood.

Welcome Embeth!! Glad you found this place - it also has helped me a lot to get free from the old ways of thinking. There's lots to read and learn. It's also a fun place - lots of cool, smart people here. And the discussions are much more interesting than anything that ever went on in a hall.

Be careful though....this place is addictive!!
