in last nights episode of the simpsons, homer goes to see the movie "left below", and subsequently becomes obsessed with the rapture.

when they show an equation he's working on to determine when it will come, one of the numbers is 144,000!.

do any other religions besides the witnesses and adventists use that number?

Was John Denver the Anti-Christ?

when i was a kid in the seattle area in the late '70's, i heard this rumor told many times: before all his concerts, john denver would ask if there were any jehovah's witnesses present, and then ask them all to leave(of course whoever was telling the story knew of someone who had experienced this first hand).

also, johnny carson confronted him about it on the tonight show once(carson often figured into the jw/celebrity rumours i heard as a kid), and when denver admitted that it was true, johnny asked him to leave.

apparently, several witnesses worked on his show and this greatly offended him.

if you can't bring yourself to read "apostate" literature just yet, i suggest the true believer by eric hoffer.

it was the first book i read when first starting to seriously question the organization.

since it wasn't specifically about the witnesses or even religion, it was a great starting point and paved the way for future inquiry.

everyone that has attended so far has been really cool, so you don't have to worry about weirdos or people trying to tell you how to have a "real relationship with jesus".
