Evil SMURFS?

okay, what's the deal with the smurfs?

i've heard mention here and there about some 80s rumours regarding demonized smurfs (or something) that got jws in a panic.

i remember when i was a kid my aunt telling my mother about smurf dolls with blood on them walking around, i think.

Do some WT phrases make you squirm?

for me it's "the doors of the ark are closing.

i can never forget as a child, being forced to see the graphic images in the publications showing families, mothers with little babies clinging to a rock and others drowning as the ark floats away.

fathers shaking their fists at god for destroying their families... it's like some of the little mind control still functioning in there somewhere causing a kneejerk reaction of uneasiness.... are there any others that bug you?.

As A JW.....what did u have most trouble refusing?

i had the nights out on the beer with my "worldly" and sometimes witness mates having trouble turning them down.......i think that was probably my fall.

i could never resist a night out on the raz, trouble is they just happened night after night after night....etc.. beer beer beer.... .

"i had the most trouble refusing to abstain from drunken nights".

Should I even bother writing a DA letter?

hey everyone.. my post count indicates i'm new, but i've been lurking here regularly for at least a year now.. quick and simple: should i write a da letter or not?

my wife and i left physically well over a year ago (relocating to a new province helped expedite our departure - i recommend this to anyone having a hard time with "the move"), and we went from "what if they df us?

" to "what if we da'd?

Where do you find spiritual fulfillment now?

hey everyone.. i've been "out" for about six months now, fully enjoying life for the first time in a very long time.

part of my joy comes from the freedom i now have to explore other spiritualities.. i will say, though, that since leaving i've felt something lacking in my life.

not because i regret my decision to leave.

in the interest of full discloser, well as much as anyone would on a public forum, i?ll tell you about me.

i was raised as a witness, and have no real horror stories to tell.

i have a jw friend who thinks her husband would look better with facial hair.

(omg, it would improve his face!

) anyway, we all know this is a no no in some congregations.

What First Stumbled You?

what was the very first thing that "stumbled" you?

mine was: i was about 5 or 6 years old and of course i used to find it really hard to find things in my bible at meetings (couldn't find the books quick enough before they moved onto the next paragraph and used to get frustrated).

i had the idea to make little tabs for the edges of the pages so i could tell where the books were - so i asked mum to help me neatly write out the book names on tiny slips of paper and tape them inside.
