when i first saw the video, i was like, "wait... is that her... panties showing through the dress"?and it seems like it is so.turns out that if you look at the middle right of the video, there are some letters.

Here's the thing: the video supposedly portrays paradise, where everything is "perfect" according to JW standards. There are a lot of detaila in the video that are just non-sensical or may be considered "new light"... For example, there's cheese among what the dubs are eating in paradise. I thought there wasn't going to be animal products there?

Also, wouldn't a dress that is thin enough to show the panties not be allowed in the JW paradise? Especially if those panties are thong-like (not granny panties)?

If the GB doesn't allow that for visiting Bethel, or probably for any occasion where the person is outside the home, the fact that it is on the "paradise" video is a major fail.

If they bought stock video, then they should have made sure that the stock video did not contain elements they wouldn't approve of.

I am criticizing based on their own standards.

the big book of how to build a human - your genome - is approximately 3 billion letters long.. the text is arranged in long molecules of dna called chromosomes.

each letter of code in a chromosome is joined to its compliment - a to t and c to g - and the whole string is arranged in the iconic double-helix shape discovered by watson and crick in 1953.. our chromosomes come in pairs, one from our father and one from our mother.

Maybe I'm Just Ignorant About the New "Anti-Gay" Video

can someone tell me, specifically, was homophobic about the new "anti-gay" wt video.

Here's my opinion on this:

Simon implies that there is no discrimination because the mom tells Sophia to tell her classmate about pandas.

I can see a couple of things happening.

Suppose Sophia goes and tells her classmate about the pandas. Her classmate, being a kid, is like "cool! I want to pet pandas too! How?"

And Sophia goes, "Well, you have to follow Jehovah's rules. And Jehovah's rules say that no one who is practicing homosexuality can go into paradise."

"Girl is like, but my two mommy's are gay!"

Sophia says, "well, they can change and please Jehovah, and you can be in paradise with them petting pandas"!

girl says: "what happens if they don't change?"

Sophia: "well... (Hesitates)... The Bible says they will be destroyed at armageddon."

The classmate gets scared, has trauma thinking that her moms are going to be murdered by God.

Scenario 2:

Kid being raised by JW's sees this video. He knows that he likes boys, not girls. He feels horrible and prays and prays to Jehovah to make him like girls, but to no avail.

Whether discriminatory or not or homophobic or not... The fact is, this video can result in extreme harm, up to and including suicide.

On another note, the Spanish Wikipedia suggests that the word "homonegative" be used instead of "homophobic" because of the first response of lots of people being "it's not a phobia"!

Cofty, you likely get pissed off when people say "it's only a theory" regarding evolution.

Let's leave semantics aside and focus on the potential harm this video could cause.

I see many good reasons why the video should be denounced.

I agree with SBF, they could STFU about homosexuality.

natural selection accumulates favourable random chance events.. the experiment that was began on 24th february 1988 on e coli bacteria by dr richard e. lenski and his team is surely one of the clearest demonstrations of the power of this process.. e.coli is one of the commonest bacterium on earth, there is around 100 billion, billion of them in the world at any given time and around 1 billion of them in your gut right now.

most of the time they cause no problem, until a new strain wreaks havoc on its host's digestive system.. if we assume the probability of a particular gene mutating to be 1 in a billion, the size of the population is so high that just about every gene in the e.coli genome will have mutated somewhere in the world every day.

I really don't bother with them anymore, since, there is usually a website debunking the debunkers.

they were vital to our distant ancestors but in humans, as in our primate cousins they have been allowed to fall into disuse as our eyes became more important to our survival than our nose.

I am using your threads for my Hispanic ExJW's page on Facebook.

If English speakers are woefully unaware of the reasons why evolution is considered a fact, then Spanish-only speakers are incredibly more so!

I find that one of the biggest issues in the Hispanic exJW world is that most go through a second cult before they become truly free.

A lot of people have issues like homosexuality where you just can't tell them, "well, the JW's are wrong Biblically" because to say that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality is such a huge stretch.

Those people would benefit quite a bit from dumping the Bible and leading an evidence-based life.

So... this is how I understand it:

It's like dropping a drop of water into a sphere that has a "smooth" section... i.e. infinitely many possible paths, at first... but then there is a section where the paths are well-defined and it MUST go through that evolutionary path?

I guess it shows that natural selection is anything BUT random. Randomness could NOT have accounted for the same changes in the same genes... the odds are just too low!
