What about just a straight up membership count Simon. Would that number be something you have quick access to and/or are willing to share?
I second this. Or perhaps you can make a threshold? i.e. Number of members who posted/commented at least X amount of times per year? If not... just simply how many have signed up as a function of time.
I know the vast majority of those would be inactive, but it'd be nice to know just how many have signed up here throughout the years. -

That group does not allow force-add. Everyone in there has joined directly. Like I said, it took them 4 years to reach their 1st thousand, 3 years to reach the second, and in just 3 years they've gone from 2 to 9 thousand members!!I believe on facebook you used to be able to 'force add' friends to a group without them knowing, but that's a different story....

Hi,
Wondering if Simon or anyone else have statistics for this site?
I.e. How many users are there? How many posts have ever been made?
Perhaps a graph showing how many users there were at a given time? That would be nice.
The reason I ask is because there is a group on Facebook called exJW Recovery Group 3 which just reached 9 thousand members.
They started in 2006 and it took them until 2010 to reach 1000 members, until 2013 to reach 2000, and in 2014 they exploded in numbers.
Wondering if there is something like that for this site. It would be very revealing. -

"A Jehovah’s Witness who receives a blood transfusion in violation of this belief will be excommunicated from the church and will not go to heaven."
FFS... why doesn't anyone ever report accurately on JW's? -

New movie by Mel Gibson 'Hacksaw ridge'
by barry ini just went to a pre screening of this movie about an adventist guy who didn't want to kill but joined the army as a medic on the front line.
desmond doss saved 75 men in one operation singlehanded on the island of okinawa where desmond worked lowering men down a 400ft cliff to safety.. i thought this may be of interest to jws because of the pacifist stand they also have.. the movie comes out on the 4 th november..

I just watched it yesterday. It left me with a weird feeling. Although I DO admire the incredible bravery of Desmond Doss, I cannot bring myself to admiring the reasons that put him in that situation, however. SDA's can be cult-like (see http://leavingsda.com/seventh-day-adventist-cult/), and so I felt odd, feeling that it felt too much like a movie about a JW "staying faithful to his beliefs" on blood, on shunning, on... whatever... despite pressure to give in.
What if Doss had stopped being so religious, even atheist? The movie said that he did the "no gun" thing because of a promise to God, and because of particular viewpoints of SDA's.
If Doss had later become atheist, he would probably have deeply regretted the sheer stupidity of his actions. Perhaps he was incredibly lucky that he didn't die there, but maybe in that case, having a gun would have increased his survival chances!!
Few movies have left me feeling so ambivalent. -

Children's Activity:
Zombies.
Zombies are an invention of Satan, and we know that Jehovah hates Satan, right?
(Let the child respond. If he gives a wrong answer, tell him he'll die at Armageddon).
But, did you know that there are some zombies that Jehovah created?
Let's see.
Jehovah created everything.
Including the cordyceps fungi. It is a very special fungus, because there are many species of cordyceps, and each one specializes in one different species of insect.
In the picture, we see an ant whose brain has exploded. This is what happens when you become apostate. NEVER READ jwfacts.com!A cordyceps fungus infects an ant's brain and takes control, turning it into a zombie.
The ant then goes to a high place and there the fungus eats its brain and the rest of its body, and then explodes, releasing its spores, to infect other ants.
Now, do you think this came about by evolution or creation?
(Allow the child to respond. If he gives a wrong answer, take him to the elders, allow them to disfellowship him, and then tell him he's dead to you).

The Results Are In: On average, for the past 90 years, 1/3 of the world has been banned
by ILoveTTATT2 inso using some amazing features of excel and the starting data here, i managed to get the average, the maximum, and the minimum percentage of the inhabited landmass of the earth where jehovah's witnesses have been either active (reported) or "not banned".the average is 66.10%!!
that means that for 90 years, ever since there is data, 1/3 of the world's area has not been preached in or been fully able to preach in!the minimum occurred in 1943, when only 26.77% of the world's inhabited area made a full yearly report and/or wasn't banned.the maximum occurred in 1991 because the yearbook said that the ussr was included.
the maximum was 82.47%.

Well... doing the "area" analysis is easy since area of a country doesn't really change much. I want to do "% of the world population", which would be much more interesting. Possibly similar results, though.
