Frank,
Wow. Your resignation letter was incredibly powerful; I appreciate your sharing it with the world. Ever hear any reactions from Bethelites who were moved by it?

deceptive jw elders case#6 .
jw elders can be, and often are, deceptive in how they smear the names and events concerning former jws, especially where alleged apostasy is involved.. when i moved to a particular congregation, i was at first very impressed with the good camaraderie and the help we were given in getting settled.
the congregation was far more outgoing and often held events at a public park where they gathered to enjoy barbecue, swimming, sports, etc.

as a jw i always thought we'd be preaching while all the other false religions were being destroyed by government, giving anyone who would listen a last chance.
in the past, i even thought about how foolish a worldly person would have to be not to listen - after all, we had predicted this very turn of events in our publications for decades.
Sorry for the duplicate thread... Simon, can you delete this?

Then, I thought JWs would be the last religion standing and that political organizations like the UN would come after us at which point God would step in to save us (though not without a few JW casualties who'd undoubtedly be shortly resurrected minus the ability to get married and procreate), the preaching work would cease, and the loving massacre of the billions of wicked and ignorant humans would ensue - all simultaneously. For some reason, I always imagined this taking place over the course of a couple of short weeks or even days.
Finally, the few million remaining humans begin their growth towards perfection, spending 1/3 of each day studying with the resurrected, 1/3 of eacy rebuilding and cultivating the earth, and 1/3 of each day carrying out normal human "chores" like eating and especially reproduction.
In retrospect, it seems ridiculous to me.

Which got me we wondering: What are/were your impressions of how the GT would play out?

i was talking to my sister yesterday, who spent the weekend with our still active parents.
over the weekend, they all had dinner with another couple, who were sharing some of the "latest news.
" i am getting this second hand, but my sister is excellent at remembering exactly what was said.

Good point. As a JW I always thought we'd be preaching while all the other false religions were being destroyed by government, giving anyone who would listen a last chance. In the past, I even thought about how foolish a worldly person would have to be not to listen - after all, we had predicted this very turn of events in our publications for decades.

If the rumor that the preaching work will cease is true, I give this particular new light a thumbs up. At least now the JWs get a break from driving around and doing calls. And given the accuracy of previous end-of-the-world predictions, that break could last for a very long time. Being a JW just got a whole lot easier.
Now if only they'd cut back to 1 or 2 weekly meetings...

Caligirl,
I've recently started a Yahoo! group called Fringe JWs. I found your post to be quite an interesting rumor and was wondering if you'd mind if I copied it to the group.
Feel free to join the group if you'd like. The invitation stands for all members of j-w.com as well!

lets post somethings as a dub you dont say:.
luck, you dont say party, its a get together.
you dont go to church, its a hall
"Let's get tickets for a Metallica show."
"We can't forget to pick up some rice on the way to the wedding."
"Think for yourself."
To a brother: "Nice earing."
"Spirituality isn't about following rules, it's about having compassion for others like Jesus did."
"It might be better for the couple to figure out whether they're sexually compatible before marriage."
"Masturbation isn't that big of a deal."
"The traditions of wedding ceremonies have pagan origins just like the holidays, but we like weddings so we just ignore that."
"The society ought to rethink the blood policy."
"The politics among the body of elders are very obvious."
"I'm not sure an elder without a high school diploma can help me through my case of clinical depression."
"Honey, the society has its head up its ass, let's have oral sex." [Not sure about this one, I think some JWs might actually say that. ]
"I LOVE R-rated movies!"
"I like the color scheme of the American flag."
"I'm gay and PROUD!"
i've been lurking for several months, its my first post here.
i am currently an active jw.
i have a very jw family so i have to be careful.
XBHERE,
I'm currently an MS in my congregation, and I've been in the situation you are now in for some time. I think the ideals of the JWs are attractive, but I find the lack of willingness on the part of most JWs to think for themselves appalling. It makes no sense that God would provide all humans with the same potential for reasoning power and intelligence while expecting them not to use it in favor of following the biblical interpretations of 12 men.
I too find the organization's handling of child molestation scandal sickening. It would have been so much simpler and effective if they publicly admitted the problem and made a firm committment to change policy so that abuse victims would be protected and cared for. I would think a reaction such as that would do far more for their reputation *and* the membership than their flimsy excuses and idiotic attempts to cover things up.
When you think about it, the general public pays little attention to JWs anyway. It is likely that child abuse scandals will fade from the minds of outsiders quickly. Why then, is the WTS so desperately struggling to clear their public image? In doing this, they add to the scars of the victims and their family members and contribute to unthinkable emotional, psychological, and spiritual trauma for the innocent.
Anyway, it's nice to see someone in the same boat as me. E-Mail me anytime.

on the mike portnoy (the drummer for progressive metal band dream theater) forum, the topic of religion came up.
it's interesting that jws came up within the first few posts.
seems there is little good to say about them:.

they might be talking about dateline?
i would like to discuss this show with some jws to see some average reactions of the show.
There are a few topics about it running now on PLN. They may be inaccessable if you are unregistered.
An interesting idea running through the thread over there is that "Jehovah *allowed* the Dateline show to air," and therefore "must have done so for a reason." At least they're not completely dismissing it under the category of apostate lies, though some of the comments do come close to that typical trained response you'll hear from a JW when the WTS (usually equivalent to God their minds) is attacked.
