How do you think you will handle your own death? . . . . . [language alert]

i know it's not the lightest of topics but the current news coverage of the pope's final hours made me wonder if i'd face things as calmly as he is reported to be doing.

i don't have his faith, or any faith anymore, but i can see how for a true believer that would be a source of strength.. the thing is, a lot of us thought we'd never die.

do you really comprehend what a truly massive mind-fuck that is?

Moanzy: That is precisely why I think the "soul sleep" or being remembered in God's memory is wrong. I don't know what the answer is or what the Truth of death is really is. What I lean towards is the Near-death experiences and that perhaps we do go to heaven right away. Maybe God does allow us to see our families or sort of "check in " on them. I don't think that after we die and years down the road when our children are all grown up and we've missed out on their growing up period, then God resurrects us is at all fair.

Interesting thoughts. I have no clue myself. I probably have the least idea here.

However, your ideas seem to favour "what would be nice" rather than what I feel YOU feel is most likely. Am I completely wrong? If so, I apologize. It's just that, the impression from your post, it sounds naively optimistic (maybe that's just coz I'm a "recovering" pessimist).

The line about "[God might let us] sort of "check in" on them", to me sounds so under-thought through and fuelled by what would be "nice". It almost sounds like someone saying: "maybe there is no devil...maybe there are no sins...maybe ..etc" - like, you just thought it through enough to bring you comfort, but not thoroughly enough to see if it could be a possibility. Could you expand on this please? Maybe it was expressed too briefly for me to understand.

Q: Do you still believe in the Bible? Do you think it's been changed or that we are understanding it wrong? It talks about death, but you seem to have disregarded that, so maybe you think the Bible is incorrect in part???

OK thanks to everyone that replied - I read all the posts.

OK, I guess some people on this site feel they have been mistreated by the org, and come here a little heated with their backs up, and I guess I brought this recent attack on myself; I didn't realise I would get into so much trouble with you guys for the two threads at once.

Hopefully in the future, you can show me the compassion you feel you didn't get out of the org.

Sorry for offending everyone. Boy, did I put my foot in it. Please don't feel the need to be angry or hostile with me. I'm new here, and am only just learning about the site and people's personalities on here. I didn't think people would react quite this way.

Sorry.

By how much of a %age has your faith weakened? How much of a blow was it? What was it due to?

Have you tried to bring your doubts to anyone? With what result?

What things do you now doubt? What things do you still believe in? (Trinity, New world, blood's sacredness etc)

What keeps you going to meetings? If you preach, how do you, not feeling 100% in your belief? Is it hard?

What are your plans within the org? Will you do something definitive like: ask a bunch of questions at the risk of reproof, DF etc?

hi realist, I don't know what to say. Maybe I should pity you too, but I don't - you've made whatever choices you've seen fit. As long as you're happy, why would I pity you? I wouldn't belittle anyones beliefs in that manner (calling them kindergarten ones) but maybe you've seen something that justifies it. Who knows? Thanks anyway.

Hi Corvin, I'll read up sometime. Was it the org that nearly killed your kids, the bible, their interpretation of the bible or how your kids tried to live by any of the above? Actually, don't answer - I'll read up soon. Thanks.

Hi Quotes, I would love to go through all your work one day, and examine it with a JW to see what they say. PS: That bit about "most people hate JW's" please dont judge them on that - that was from ME, I wasn't representing anyone when I said it. I just said it out of this big emotional imbalance I felt at the time, realising that not everyone found the truth in JW's. Sorry. That was all MY fault. It was my persecution complex.

CeriseRoce - what can I say, thanks for the reply. I appreciate that hour too. Well, I don't have a study. I've had just like...2. Mum used to study though. I just go to Sunday meetings. I want to gather tons and tons of views, then offload them at the feet of the man Ive had 1 or 2 studies with, and see what he says. I'm not looking for TRUTH online, but EVIDENCE or QUESTIONABLE MATERIAL that I can bring back for questioning. Thanks for your reply. I feel bad for not spending an hour on mine. Devon Mcbride, hi. I used to read a JW book on world religions, noting their similarites. They didn't say anything about hate there. But maybe you've read something I haven't. Fair enough. Hi.

Can I ask why you need to be so hostile and rude - or maybe it just came across as such? I'm not here to try and get you to believe in God or anything. In fact, I'm here for purely selfish reasons - for ME - to find out if I'm in the right place. I then will bring any doubts to people I have a study with, when I arrange one, and they can try and explain some of the damning (sp) things I've been hearing this week about the org.

RIP 1934 -2004

after a relatively short battle (5 weeks) my great aunt died this am at 02:30. of course she'd been ill much longer, losing weight, but she hated visiting doctors, and never wanted to make a fuss.

i saw her on tuesday, and felt embarrased to stand at her bed as she looked so bad after what the cancer had done to her, reduced her to someone i hardly recognised.

what happened to that glamorous woman of not so many years ago, immaculate in every way?

Sorry for your loss, even though I've just joined this site.

Some questions though: Do you think about where she may be now (if anywhere) or what will happen in the future to her? Have you joined other Christian religions? Was she into any of them? Or don't you like to think about those kinds of things. Forgive my nosiness, I'm just trying to learn who this site is aimed at, and who it mostly consists of (ie: those that stopped believing in God/the Bible, those that still do, but left the JW org, etc)...

I was just curious as to the aim of this website? I thought it was a discussion board for those interested in/ for Jehovah's Witnesses, but it seems like you're all former Jehovah's Witnesses? So is this site just to bash Jehovah's Witnesses? What do you believe in now? Have you all gone back to the ailing Catholic/Protestant churches? Have you moved onto Islam, in spite of the negative press, etc? What do you all believe now? Who do you think knows the truth? Are you still searching, or do you think Jehovah is the truth, but because it didn't work out with you first time round, you've decided not to continue looking, cos you know you've found the truth, but it didn't work out convenient to you - I hope that's clear? Do you think about Armageddon? Do you now believe that this earth wasn't desgned by [a] God, but was a random accident? Do you hate Jehovah's Witnesses (I expect you wouldn't HATE them, just not believe in what they say, if you have moved to Protestant/Catholic religions)?

I really did think this site was aimed at Jehovahs Witnesses, but it's just a hate site, and you're all entitled to hate Jehovah's Witnesses - after all, most people do, even so called Christians - however, I do enjoy reading anything that challenges the faith, I want to know that I have come into the right religion. When I talk to my Baptist Church friends, I get more confident, as I point them to stuff they didn't know, or don't observe (e.g. it says a tree (for cross) in their bible 3 times, Christmas, Sun God etc). If Jehovah's Witnesses weren't the true religion, I don't think there would be one (or who is? Anyone think differently?), as I don't see others that outwardly appear peaceful, truthful and ready to serve God down to the letter, for want of a better expression. I am new to the faith though, and like to look at other religions, as they always seem to confirm that I have just joined the right one.

Isn't the URL a bit misleading? Shouldn't it be called "EX-JW's" or something, so that people are forewarned that you people are former JWs, anti-JWs even? Shouldn't there be some kind of notice on the homepage that whoever is looking to learn about the religion has come to the wrong site?

Also, what is that DONATE icon for? Who is it exactly that needs sponsoring, if you are all EX-Jehovahs Witnesses?

Thanks in advance for your replies. I'm going through a lot of anti-JW stuff online. It's quite funny. Some just blatantly hate JWs, others say its doctrines are false, but then also say: Islam could be truer than Christianity, because there is no trinity as God couldn't pray to himself. In effect, they prove JW doctrines whilst questioning them. I thank you once again for not getting offended at my post.
