When I first started studying in the late 1960's, the congregation servant's (that is what they were called then before the elder arrangement) wife who was a female tyrant said that Freddy was a Rhodes scholar and a Greek scholar. I guess as Jdubs we had our own form of hero worship no matter how much it was embellished.
Now I know it was a total crock of shit.

It is a tragic shame what this religion has done and keeps on doing. They have a lot of blood on their collective hands. Ooompah couldn't go on anymore and for him it was the only solution. Some years back another poster "Puter" was in the same situation and chose the same path.

are your "senior moments" ever a cause for worry to you?
I have to say that everthing the first five posters said has happened to me. This past week I turned 69 and consider myself in marginally good health. The only meds I'm on is a low dose blood pressure med. Recently had what I call an "old persons" procedure done on the veins in both legs to increase blood flow and stop my feet from swelling. It seems to be working and I should know for sure within a month when I go back for a post op exam.
What really makes me stop and think about my mortality is that in the two years since I moved to Florida from Pa, 19 of my friends and acquaintances have died. Some older than me and some younger. But most within 5 to 7 years of my age. I get the obits from the newspaper from where I came from and from friends via email and Facebook.
In the meantime, I'm trying to enjoy life as much as I can as a free man.

i feel like i need to vent my story out, as i feel quite helpless at the moment.. i'm 31 year old, married, father of toddler with another one on the way, due later this month.
i've been serving as elder for about 4 years now in a south florida congregation.

I went through something similar as you are going through. What was in my favor was that other than in-laws, I had no family to worry about since my daughter was also out. (my wife had passed away).

this month makes 26 years since i disassociated from the wt org.
i have not visited a kh or assembly hall once since.
that includes no memorial attendance.
Good for you. I was mentally out in the late 1990's but went to memorial a few years until 2003. Haven't been back since. I am totally free from the cult.

There are a few companies selling JW products. Madzay, Peglala, Ministryideaz, and others. Just google jw products and it all is shown. They remind me of the JW's who get into anything to sell to make a few bucks.

our log house in pa was so far from everything it was costing us to much time and money.

my great-grandmother was a jw, my grandmother is a jw, my mother and two of my aunts are jws.
in 1983 mom, then 18 years old married my father, a wordly man and was baptized later the same year at a district convention.
i was born in 1984.. my bedtime stories consisted of the bible stories and you can live forever books.

i intend for this to be one of a series of bite-sized ops on the evidence for evolution.. introduction to dna genes are sequences of dna made up of words (codons) each of which are three letters (bases) long.
there are only four letters in the genetic alphabet (acg&t) each word or codon is the recipe for one amino acid.
there are 20 different amino acids in living organisms.
With all the hundreds if not thousands of posts about evolution, trinity, soul, the true religion, and everything else where posters want to debate scriptures and everything else about God...........at my age (68 and about to be 69 shortly........I really don't give a shit about any controversies anymore.
I just wat to live the life I have with what time I have left and let the cosmos figure it out when I rot.
