here in the eastern states downunder we're having spring-like weather with clear blue skies, warm sunshine in the low 20s celsius even though it's right in the middle of winter.

Never had one of those "suitcase" bags. Thought they were rediculous!
It made me laugh when a younger brother was appointed as an elder. One of the first things some of them did was get one of those bags. Guess they thought is was a required part of impressing on all that they now had position in the KH.

Happened to me last summer here on JWD. For two months I thought I was in heaven. She was and still is the loveliest, kindest, and sweetest woman I have ever known.
I was ready to settle down and spend the rest of my life with her, but sorry to say, the romance didn't last.
But we are still good friends and stay in touch on a regular basis. After all.......who would give up a good friend?

often i heard that with a brand new car, you can't drive at a constant speed for a long period of time, because it isn't good for a brand new motor.
they recommend driving at varaiable speeds and variable rpm for the first 1000 miles atleast.. just wondering if anyone here knows about this, and how many miles does it take for a new motor to be able to drive very long distances at constant highway speed without any problem.
The car makers used to say that in the 1950's, 60's and early part of the 70's. It was even in the owners manuals which you can read if you ever get access to one.
Now they say it doesn't matter.

30 members of my family are in--including my mother, father, 3 siblings and their mates and children.

My 2 cents worth is for you to keep Mom happy. Do what you can do. Tell her you are very busy with work or whatever. At the age your parents are at.........they don't need traumatic emotional setbacks knowing the son they love doesn't want the WT religion.
If you drop the bomb...........it will make for a bad relationship.......as short as it may be.
Sometimes .......compromise at the expense of truthfulness is needed. The WT calls it Theocratic Warfare.......
I think to keep family from getting bent out of shape (in certain cases) our true feelings can be held back a little.

Basically, my life is great.
Everything AK - Jeff said applies to me except........I have more friends now than I ever had as a JW.
It isn't much, but I own my own home and at times feel lonely living by myself.
I've done the dating thing a lot since my wife died and often prayed that I could meet lady right, fall in love and all the rest. Well......the last lady in my life was lady right. I fell head over heels and was ready to make a lifetime commitment. Only trouble was.........and take it for what it is worth........ I failed to pray that lady right felt the same way about me. SHE DIDN'T! But we are still friends and talk occasionally.
And so far........I have my health. What more could I ask for? Oh.......I could ask to hit the lottery for a few million!

That is why we were and they are........cookie cutter robots. No emotion, no nothing!
But I am sure deep down that they.......as we NOW know.........that emotions are a part of us.
As JW's, we could not/would not show them.............now we do........and many times very heavy now that we can.
As a 58 year old one time tough guy (before JWism) but still big, would rather have my true feelings shown even if it means sobbing my heart out to those who understand. I am no longer ashamed to show anger, happiness, sarcasm (in a nice way) or any other emotion.
I feel that I have been set free in many many ways, and hope others on this forum can achieve their own happiness.

i am asking for a simple opinion here.
according to the latest jw "laws", should and active witness, much less one serving as an elder, do any work for military institutions such as the air force, navy, and u.s. army?

Geesh............I must be getting old and forgetful. Must be something in my psyche that for some reason, I don't think of past things too much. I forgot about a job I had from 1987 to 1994 with a large U.S. Corporation that made coolant pumps for the Navy's nuclear subs and aircraft carriers. I could have had this job 3 years earlier but turned it down because I thought I would be violating the neutrality BS. I was an elder when I got hired.
Anyhow, once I found out that there were 2 JW elders working there, and after a ton of questions by myself about them to others who knew them, I eagerly applied for the job and got it. The plant was 26 miles from my home and the elders working there lived about another 20 miles in the opposite direction. They both are retired now with over 35 years of employment there. There were also two other JW's working there who were not elders.
Needless to say, the permission to work there was the fact that our paychecks did not come from the Navy. They came from the corporation. And...........it was said that we were not producing weapons, that we made support products that in fact could be used in civilian applications.
Go figure! But it was a job to die for........the best job I ever had until Clinton cut the defense budget.
Damn.........who knows what else might be excavated from the memory bank of my brain that might be informative?
