about an hour and a half ago, we left the port of seattle for alaska.
my grandmother sent me and my grandfather on this trip for a graduation present.

baptized roommate talked to elders about Barbara Anderson
by oppgirl63 inmy roommate(baptized) met with 2 elders last night and gave them "the discoveries of barbara anderson".
she told them that she believed mrs. anderson was telling the truth.
she didn't think that mrs. anderson would have given so many years of service to jehovah and then just walk away.

Met a Laid off Bethel Couple
by doinmypart ini met a married couple caught up in the recent bethel layoffs.
they are a fairly young couple in their mid to upper 30s, i didn't think to ask which department they worked in before being laid off.
the couple was driving cross country from new york to california, and stopping overnight at jw homes along the way.

About a year ago, there was a new poster on JWD using the name "schwrtzmnn" and saying he was a disgruntled bethelite serving at WT farms or Patterson with his wife.
I believe his name and posts were deleted (by his own request) because he gave a little too much information about himself. And he was/is not ready to be exposed.
One of his concerns was him and his wife getting older and him worrying how they would make it financially if they were booted from bethel.
He also had a website called Watchtower Farms where he was selling reprints of old WT literature.
So...........does anyone know how this person might be doing? I for one hope he is ok. This downsizing is going to really be hard for ones who thought they had a lifetime job if they wanted it.
The near future is going to be real interesting. We are going to hear some real stories of anger and desperation. We here on JWD need to be especially kind to these individuals to help them see through newly opened eyes. I say this because I really believe that we will get an influx of laid off newbies within the year.

by DesertRat injust a quick message to thank everybody for the outpouring of support in response to my very first post on this site.
i came here only expecting one or two replies at most, and could not possibly have anticipated so much more.
the encouragement i have found meant more to me than the final two or three years of indifference and unconcern encountered among my so-called 'brothers' at the kingdom hall.. i shared this experience with my therapist on wednesday and could not stop crying as i explained to her just what it means to be a jw 'castaway' (rootless and seemingly without a friend in the world) who has found hope and understanding in an online community of people who seem to have been there all along--through the same long years of deceit, hypocrisy, anguish and alienation from the world around.

Elders appointed by Holy Spirit???
by wozadummy indo you remember years ago this was mentioned among the brothers in conversations about elders?
yet i cannot ever recall being directed to a scripture which proved all elders were appointed by holy spirit.
it seems that everyone just accepted that they were, including myself , and yet how is this possible considering how many i've seen were corrupt when appointed.. any others think about this when in the org

Years ago I really believed this. But I slowly changed my mind after I was appointed in 1986.
I thought I was a good elder and so did many others in the cong. A bit to lenient and "familiar" according to the rest of the body.
After I was appointed ( a time when the older members of the cong. were dying off.......including the "older men" and other "pillars" of the cong.).....several bros. were being considered for appointment. Some were "somehow" appointed and then my doubts began.
My regular conversation with my wife always had reference to the a..hole fellow elders I had to deal with. Who knows? Maybe these yoyo's thought the same of me because I was not a tyrant !
Anyhow.........because of a lot of personal stuff...........I resigned in 1991 and never misse it at all. So many adverse problems took place in the cong. afterward (no...not just because I resigned) that I just sat back and chuckled.
Too many wasted years wanting to be someone who made a difference! Oh well. So no..........elders are NOT appointed by Holy Spirit......only by other elders who have been fooled by the 10 hour a month boot licker.

JWs Called at my House This Morning
by Seeker4 inhere it was memorial day morning, and i'm out in the front yard watering the gardens when i hear a car pulling up the driveway.
it pulls into our section of the drive and i see it's a witness couple i know in the front seat.
the wife is driving and they spot me right off.

Do you remember what we were taught to say when people started witnessing, as it were, to us? We were told to respond that we didn't come to their door looking for answers or for the truth. WTF?! When I think how disrespectful it is to begin with to go invade someone's privacy in their home to try and tell them how wrong they are, and then to add that kind of arrogant response, well I despise the work even more.
How true! I felt the same as you. But I'm glad that you are now living a happy life.
About your garden leading to the house. You MUST show some pictures of this. It sounds absolutely beautiful and I just love plant and flower gardens.
