Amazing Read,Check this out!
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara incurrently reading : 30 years a watchtower slave.
cannot put it down.. this book pre-dates ray franz book "crisis of conscience", written from early 20th century, shortly after the jehovah's witnesses were formed.
the author describes the original true background of the watchtower society as a multi-million dollar publishing company.

Amazon Foods
by Iamallcool inthere are so many kinds of foods on amazon.
i want to eat something different.
what do you like to order on amazon?
-
HappyDad
Had Amazon Pantry for a time. Went to Hello Fresh and absolutely love it. Much cheaper than eating out and even though you have to prep, there is no waste or wondering what to do. If you take advantage of their special offers, you can feed two people for $7.00 to $10.00 a day. And it is gourmet quality!

Big elders meetings?
by road to nowhere ini hear of whole circuit meetings being held, taking all day.
maybe just usual yearly stuff, but it seems the local elders immediately held a followup.
i am sure it will be about better local control, more charity, kindness, that sort of thing.

Back in the day, I had to go to a few special elders meetings at the assembly hall in Pittsburgh. It was really a lot of nothing. Like "road to nowhere" said....."everything important could be said in 5 minutes".

Russell's followers in British Columbia?
by dubstepped inso i was interviewing a guy for a podcast episode today and he went and saw his grandmother over christmas to gather some history.
he wasn't raised a jw but it turns out his family was actually opposed to the jws because they went all the way back to russell.
according to him (from her stories), they refused to follow rutherford and that's where the split took place.

I'm going back to the early 1980's. I had heard there were some "Bible Students" in the Pittsburgh, Pa area. The place where I lived was about 12 miles southeast of the city. One day in the door to door work a lady invited us in and lo and behold there was a portrait of Russell and portraits of two others right on the wall. Turns out she belonged to one of the "Bible Student" groups and she proceeded to try and convince us that the JW's took control of the original group and that the JW's were the false prophets. I don't remember what all she said because the person I was with wanted to get out of there. Personally, I would have loved to learn more of the "forbidden" things I knew nothing about back then.
Maybe that was a small seed planted in my brain the eventually grew. Who knows.

I was born and lived in western Pennsylvania for 67 years and moved to Florida in 2014 to be near my daughter who has lived there since 2001. It was in Bonita Springs on the southwest Gulf coast and I loved it because it was new to me. I soon learned how expensive it was to live there and I don't have a golden parachute like so many of the moneyed people do who live there full time or are snowbirds for a part of the year. The cost of housing/rent keeps going up year by year and for those who are younger and have to work full time, the wages have not kept up with the rest of the country.
I wound up moving to Minnesota in February of this year with my daughter. She was fed up with the poor wages in Florida got a much better job here. And she has great friends who moved back here from Florida for the same reason.
The bottom line is......I love it here even with the very cold winters. The cost of living is much lower than Florida and my pension and social security goes a lot further. I became a home owner again at the age of 72 and my monthly living expenses are hundreds of dollars lower than Florida.
Home is where the heart is.

I'm thankful that my daughter also got out, went to college, got a degree, and now has her dream job and is happy just like her old man.
I'm thankful (even though it took way too many years) that I have become tolerant of people who have a totally different perspective of how they view and want to live their lives.
