Asembly drama
by lamb_neo inthose of you who have been to this year district conventions know that during the drama timothy's friend ionatan was telling him about their plans to go and study in athen.
i keep wondering how watchtower dares to say such lies.
where did they find this in the bible?

I went to see the education angle and you are right, it was a buch of fiction wrapped around a couple of bible characters. Just pulled a story right out of the as$. And the JW lingo was incredibly ridiculous. It's hard to believe so many really swallowed that stuff.

Help in Disappearing!!!!!
by Coqui inmy family and i have been away from the meetings for about three years but we still are watched carefully and get the occasional "we miss you" visit.
we will be moving out of state 1,500 miles away.
in todays internet age with access to so much info, phone #'s and adresses is it really impossible to truly escape?

Once you move that far (1500 mi) you should be fairly safe, provided you dont make contact with JW in your new location. That is pretty far, for even the most persistant of elders.
Contrary to a lot of opinion, most elders are too busy with there own life or with the JWs who do show up to put forth the effort for anybody not in the territory, much less out of state. The rest are much too lazy. And I know of no elder who would go searching on the internet for any individual jw. Dont worry...you should be ok. Just try not to make contact with the locals in the new area.

by CyrusThePersian ini don't post much and this is the first thread i've ever started so please bear with me.

i agree with the points already made, but here are my notes anyway.
1. trying to move away from 1914 as fast as possible
2. put faith in the resurrection because you will probably die on this side of the big A. sorry bout that old-timers.
3. give the FDS unquestioning (read blind) obedience
4. college is bad...come to bethel (the bethel meeting this year is for all under 35 and single, not just 19-35...my take is that they are trying to get them wrapped up early. This was also evidenced by some very very young baptisms)

Without the Internet. Would you still have been a active believing dub??

I was already on the way out...it just wasn't doing it for me anymore. The year text for that year was about the yoke being light, something i knew just wasn't happening for me. Ironically an elder at the time mentioned COC and how he read it before becoming a witness (at the time he was stronger than ever, tho i think he will eventually come around once he sees completely the that what he read was truth...he's already stepped aside as elder) I believe that the internet is hurting them badly tho...more than they even realize yet. Without major changes, the glory days of the WTS are over. Axelspeed

Jesus the son of God
by kingdoman ini believe in jesus christ the son of god conceived of the virgin mary and who is one and the same as the father and the holy spirit, and through him all things where created.
i believe that he was crucified as a perfect sacrifice for our sins and on the third day rose from the dead and later ascended in heaven.
it is through jesus christ that we enter the kingdom of heaven and there is no lack of space in heaven.

In my now post-jw life, I try to live, let live and not be too dogmatic about much. But my tolerance for religion in general is taking a beating....fueled in large part by the jw-like way a lot of people try and shove their beliefs on others.
Most of us have "been there, done that, and bought the tshirt." Whether u realize it or not, that brand of dogmatism and the tone you present it with is a real turn-off for many here.
I never thought I would say this, but "organized religion" is starting to make me sick.

Leaving on your own terms!!!!!
by researcher inhow about leaving on your own terms!!!!
you go to the sunday meeting or theo school and service meeting... and when there is an opportunity to comment.. you raise your hand.. and the diligent brother [servant wanna a be] brings over the microphone and you say.. " i just wanted to make it clear that i "...." no longer want to be identified as one of jehovah's witnesses's connected with the watchtower tower society, and then you get up, click your heels, give everyone a farewell salute..... and leave the building singing some neil young tune...... :) has anyone done that?
should we start doing that?

I think I may be close to that point myself. Sometimes you just need to cut the strings.

Experience is not always the best or most preferred teacher...but it is many times the most effective. Sometimes you just have to see it for yourself.
