There was a time when I would try that, but then I realized that it didn't really matter. If they wanted to hear, they'd act interested. If they didn't, what was the point of annoying them. Actually, I was hoping they'd act disinterested, because I usually wasn't prepared to go any deeper than the 30-second mag presentation......

Tactics to sway my family from the JW organization
by findingmyway ini've been thinking lately about how i can get my family out of the organization.

my mom was once a regular pioneer (hasn't in over 10 years and doesn't even work).

I have a large number of family and friends who are still being brainwashed. Fortunately, some of them are not and have 'seen the light'. I honestly never thought they would even remotely entertain the idea of the organization being wrong, but the issues I've brought up have helped. One of them told me today that it was the UN thing that showed them that the organzation was capable of deceit and dishonestly. I think that is a powerful point, because the (wt)BS has spent so much time condeming the UN.
Now, it hasn't worked on everyone. Many either don't believe or don't really care as they are content to be lied to and brainwashed. But, as my family member and I were talking about today, getting people to even begin doing the research they should on the organization is a lot like field service - you plant the seed, never knowing when that one thing will happen that will encourage them down the right path. Hang in there!

Dying for whats right???
by chuckyy inone of the things that i could not reconcile, which led to my disassociating myself was this:.
i have a daughter that needs open heart surgery.
my heart goes out to those parents who may have one time refused a blood fraction or even an organ transplant for their children because they believed at the time that it was scriptural.

Scully - very interesting point. In one of the cases that I'm familiar with of a court hearing to force blood on a child, that line of reasoning was actually used as a basis for the argument to get the court order. The idea was that if, in the eyes of the JW's, a child could not make a decision about being part of the religion until the 'age of understanding', then the child obviously was not able to make a decision that could possibly end it's life. Typical lack of logic in the Witness reasoning.

The picture on page 10 is obviously staged. We see two brothers one black and one white, greeting a middle-aged black sister.
Caption for picture one:
1) "Sister, while my daughter was visiting your granddaughter the other day, she 'accidentally' hacked into your PC and saw you were visiting www.jehovahs-witness.com. May we please have a word with you in the back?"
2) (Knowing it's the 1st of the month and Social Security checks just came) "Sister, this brother and I were just discussing the parable of the widow's mite. Do you remember that one?"
Two chunky single sisters are hugging each other.
Caption for picture 2:
"Don't you hate that there is only one brother to every three sisters and only the attractive one's get married? Oh well, more service time will make me happy...more service time will make me happy...more service time will make me happy..."(repeat mantra and fade out)
(And yes, I know that was tacky. )
And a young black boy is talking to an older white man who is seated.
Caption for picture 3:
1) "Sonny, let me tell you about all the new light I've witnessed. Boy, I'm sure glad Armageddon didn't come in 1874/1914/1918/1921/1925/1975"
2) "You mom tells my you like to play video games. Why don't you invite all your friends from school over and then tell them your XBOX is broken and pull out the Bible Stories Book?"
O.k....all smart-aleckness aside, I think we ALL know what's wrong w/ those pics. Presents a nice fairy tale, though.

RE: Adulterous marriage

Hi Tepic (dad) :-)
As usual, the GB has created an irreconcilable paradox. If someone marries someone in the situation you described, then, according to the GB they are committing adultery, and thus in an adulterous marriage. IF that is the case, then how is it possible to attain repentence (and thus reinstatement) WHILE STILL IN THE MARRIAGE??? Every time the couple would have sex, they would be committing adultery. If it applied to time one, then it should apply to time 10,000. Is the union only adulterous for a period of time? Where in the scripture does it say that? Where in the scripture does it say ANYTHING about one party forgiving, etc? Does Jehovah only disapprove for a while until the two parties say "well, we probably shouldn't have done that"? If they then choose to get divorced to rectify the situation, is that an unscriptural divorce? After all, they are only trying to fix something the GB says is wrong to begin with. If they chose to get divorced, would they be eligible to re-marry their former mate? Since the 'adulterous' marriage ended in divorce NOT resulting from adultery, but simply from a desire for the two parties to 'fix' their wrong, would they be considered adulterous if they remarried their former mate?
See, this is what happens when the GB starts 'adding to the things written'. So many more questions are raised, and then there has to be 'rules' and 'laws' put in place for those circumstances, and the cycle continues. But do you know why it works? Because the GB has everyone brainwashed into thinking that because they are the F&DS that ANY nonsense they spew forth is justifiable. The average witness doesn't understand the reasoning behind half of the things they do or don't do, but regurgitate the party line "Well, the GB says it, so the reasoning must simply be out of my grasp and beyond my human thinking." In any organization where freedom of thought is promoted, this type of reasoning simply wouldn't fly.

From the recent "Questions from the Readers", WT, 01/it'll never happen/04
Dear Brothers:
While 'visiting' the PO's wife while he was at work last night, I was looking through a bookbag that I 'found' at the KH and noticed the article entitled "Using your Resources Wisely". I realized that with Christmas coming, college tuition due, my vacation to Hedonism, and my legal fees from defending myself for 'visiting' with sister '12 year old', that I may have some difficulty in aiding the preaching work financially. How does the loving father Jehovah God view our service even if we are of small financial means?
Sincerely,
Your Brother, Hugh Jass, Podunk, Mississippi
Editors note:
Brother Jass,
Jehovah's appreciates all of our ser....wait...you said you couldn't give us any money?? F*** YOU, buddy.

favourite games to play as a child during boring meetings
by Surfacing inmy parents were both very strict, and i wasn't allowed any toys at the hall.
my rations included a copy of my book of bible stories, and a pen and note pad.
my parents were strict to the point of not allowing me to draw pictures, i had to "take notes".

How about during service? Usually you could only get away with stuff when you were in the 'young people's car group'. Were y'all lucky enough to have that? Where all the young 'pioneers' would get to be in the same car group?
When we were calling on old folks, we'd use the names of rappers or musicians (Good morning, I'm Kurtis Blow and this is Cyrus Stroh and we're here to talk to you about the Bible).
When someone was standing next to the car talking to a householder, we'd roll the back of their jacket up in the window so they couldn't move.
Of course we'd take 1 hour lunch breaks.

Too bad we couldn't make this into a drinking game.
Oh shit...THAT was funny. I would have probably attended WAY more meetings....
Here's some of the stuff we used to do as (older) teenagers:
1) Take CapriSun juice pouches, pour half of them out, fill the rest with vodka, put them inside our inner jacket pocket and sip them during the meeting.
2) Try to incorporate song lyrics into our comments (our favs were the Beastie Boys and Run DMC - hey, this WAS the 80's!)
3) Look down ALL sister's shirts while handling the mikes, then compare notes on who was wearing the best bra.
4) Here was a great scam. We'd tell our parents we were going to a different hall in the afternoon on Sunday (presumably that had some 'nice young sisters') so that we could sleep off our hangovers on Sunday morning. Then, we'd go to the 'other' hall, chat with some 'good brothers' before the meeting so that they could report back to our parents that we were there. Then, after the first song, we'd go to a local mexican restaurant, watch the Cowboys or the Oilers game, make it back to the meeting just before the closing song, hook up w/ some 'nice young sisters' after the meeting. What nice young brothers we were.

If I hadn't experienced stuff like this first hand, I would have a hard time believing you...lol. But I know it's true. It must be more fun to stake out people than to do 'real' shepherding work. Wasn't it Paul that counseled Timothy about 'tending to orphans and widows"? He must have inadvertently left out the part about 'chasing them down on their camel'....
