One thing I find interesting about all these 'elder visit' stories is how poorly-equipped EVERY elder in each story is to handle questions such as the ones brought up in this story. I think many times they are blind-sided because they have no clue that there is even an issue w/ 607. Most of them have no exposure to the 'past' teachings except for the 'information' put in the current publications about teachings back in the day. The society does not prepare them in ways to defend these teachings for fear of raising more questions than necessary in the mind of the elders they are trying to indoctrinate. You almost feel sorry for them. I wonder how they would feel if they knew that, as a group, they appear to be so clueless and blind to those of who share these experiences. I'm sure they assume that the 'experience' will be isolated to at most a few close friends....of course, we are a 'few close friends'...lol.

2 elders came for a visit
by Goldminer inat first i wasn't going to post this but i noticed a lot of people here have been getting visits from elders lately, all with pretty much the same results.. three months ago,my wife asked an elder if he could answer some of my questions.he offered to come over, which he did,to waste my time talking in circles to basic questions he couldn't answer from the bible.(i.e.
where does the bible say god has an organization and uses a governing body to direct it?
) anyways, after 3 hours of proving his allegiance tot the wts and showing me his level of denial he said he would do more research on my questions and get back to me.one main question that night had been 607 bce.. last week he made arrangements with my wife to return with another elder.that day i decided, based on advice i got here, that i would not use any research notes, only the bible as final authority(unless we got into 607 since you need secular history to support dates).the discussion started on god's organization, and being that i'm not very good at these type of debates,it basically went in circles with one elder getting upset that i didn't believe that god has a visible organization.he kept asking me well, which religion has the truth then?

Is it possible to hijack your publisher card from cong. records?
by watch the tower ini wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to remove your publisher card from the cong.

You could go all Splinter Cell, and break into the hall after hours, or better yet just burn down the hall and watch your card go bye-bye.
Funny, jeep. There's a few elders I've known I'd love to do a 'Sam' imitation on and knock out and leave in a dark part of the alley. Better yet, set some C-4 around the perimeter of one of my old KH's while they were having an elder's meeting......

WT elder school Pittsburg PA in Jan 1970
by james_woods inhave been gone from the board for a month or so, but i have read with great interest some of the stories about very recent "elder" schools from actual attendees.
i thought some might like to know about my experience in one of these in the very early 70's.
i was pioneering where the need was great (clinton, okla.) and was made assistant cong.

the Big News & 60 Min. or 20/20 or Dateline ?
by carla inwhat if we did a letter writing campaign to one of the big news shows about the 'big news' and asked them to check into this?
i think it would require large amounts of mail to get noticed.
any thoughts on this?

Excellent response, MegaDude. Someone must still be undergoing brainwashing, er, I mean, receiving spiritual food from the GB.....

Bad Behavior in Field Service
by TallTexan inbeing raised in the 'truth', i obviously spent much of my youth in service.
of course, as we got older, my friends and i would act the fool in service as much as possible.
we used to use the names of popular rap artists with the old farts we called on.

Tall Texan once, when very young, reprimanded a co for doing this.
After speaking to Blindersoff on the phone last night, I was reminded of this incident. See, I was trying to be a good little self-righteous Witness...guess I missed a turn somewhere....

CoC--Mexico vs Malawi or other countries
by love2Bworldly ini don't know if this might be a repeat, sorry if it is.
i am in the middle of reading coc.
do you think that mexico jw's were spared by the governing body from rigid rules of not being involved in military issues/political party issues compared to other countries such as malawai, because the wts could make more money from people in mexico converting to jws as opposed to some other countries such as malawi?.

Just out of curiosity, and by way of proof to those still brain-washed, I'd love to find some 3rd party verification of that story in CoC.....

Would the WTS torture the "apostates" if they could?
by greendawn indo you think the wts would physically torture and even execute "apostates" if we all lived in a context that allowed them to do so?
much as the catholic church did in the middle ages when they had the opportunity to treat their dissenters as they wished.
already the way the gb wants apopstates treated is as vicious as can be, manifests a deeply seated maliciousness and animosity and is calculated to hurt as much as possible under the present day circumstances.

You know, in all my years as a JW and since, that's possibly the most disturbing thing I've ever seen them print.
Think about it - they twist every word, parable, and meaning of the Bible. How easy it would be for them to use the numerous examples of the Israelites to justify the execution of apostates if it were legal.
No time to make 'torture calls' - we all know if they could count time for torturing apostates, they would do it. They would probably eat dog doody if they could count time for it.....

Can't escape the long arm of the HLC....funny how they never visit anyone who's sick that's in good standing - only to see if you've been naughty.
As far as violation of HIPPA laws, a hospital is allowed to give out the fact that a patient is in fact a patient (unless their admission status is marked specifically as confidential), their current condition (stable, critical, etc) and their room number. Other than that, we can't give out any information to anyone - even folks claiming to be family. Because of your previous AMD and the fact that it took some time to get the new one processed, the lag probably allowed the HLC to be notified without technically violating any laws. I agree with an earlier post, though, that if the delay in getting the new AMD processed is a hospital policy related issue, it should be changed. One of the first things we have to ask our patients is if they have an AMD, and if it is current. We can change it on the spot, with hospital personnel acting as witnesses.
Tough spot to be in, and I don't envy you for it. I would have asked the guy "Hey, how come no shepherding visits in 15 years? If you really cared, I'd have heard from you before now, so beat it."
If they could count time for visiting people in the hospital, there would never be a sick JW without 50 visitors in the room.....but you can't sell any books that way....

Blondie,
Most if not all hospitals have discontinued the practice of keeping charts in the hallway. My hospital has even done away with the boards at the nurses station that has the patient's name, admitting physician, code status, etc on it due to HIPPA laws.
