The picture I always remember is from the Live Forever book that showed a car on a road stopping to ask for directions. If I'm not mistaken, the man they are getting directions from is pointing in the opposite direction and the heading is "If you were on the wrong road, wouldn't you want someone to point it out?" or something to that effect. They like to conviently forget to apply that to themselves.

Comeback from witness...interesting
by integ ini asked my uncle elder about the scripture that says; "keep testing to make sure you are in the faith" or something to that effect, to kind of try to explain why i have the audacity to question watchtower doctrine.
his response was something i guess i knew, but had forgotten.."that doesn't mean to keep testing the teachings of the faithful slave, it means that we need to keep testing 'ourselves' to make sure we are still faithful to gods' organization".
i had forgotten the spin on that scripture, and all i could do was shake my head and say "okay, whatever".

plasma exchange in my grandson
by starfirern` into liberal elder: my 10yr grandson has guillan-barre' syndrome and is in icu on a ventilator and the doctors want to do a plasma exhange on him to help the disease to be treated and for him to get well.
it is similar to dialysis and would not require a transfusion.
it is the only way to treat this horrible disease and make him well(hopefully) and to lessen any possible long term effects as this is his 3rd bout in 7 yrs.

Welcome to the board! Please help your grandson with the best advice of the doctors you trust. You will never be able to make this decision again. Any loving god values human life, especially a child!

My Brother Counsels My Mother About Her Sister & Me
by minimus inmonths ago my aunt told my mother that because she associated with me and she knew what my stand for the "truth" was, that she must stop associating with me because her association with me was a way for "the demons" to get to my mother who could then go to my aunt and others.
my aunt told my mom that if she didn't stop her association that she couldn't continue with seeing her own sister on a weekly basis.
my mom will be 80 this summer and my aunt is 82. my mother told her that she would not stop seeing her (1) son that "takes care of her" and that if my aunt's conscience was demanding of her to refrain from association, then so be it.

Minimus Your aunt and brother represent the witness legalize that has become the core of what they call "faith". It's not enough that they don't talk to you.....but they won't rest until all family ties are broken. The sad truth, is no matter what you believe about life after this one, at 80 the rest of your mom's days are truly precious. To cause her any distraction from celebrating her many years and children is shortsighted and insecure. When your mother finally passes away - your brother will wish he never acted this way. Good Luck, Live well and let live. Matt

The end of faith
by poppers inhas anyone heard of sam harris and read his book, "the end of faith"?
http://samharris.org/ .
sam harris cranks out blunt, hard-hitting chapters to make his case for why faith itself is the most dangerous element of modern life.

Thanks poppers - this sounds like a decent read. I'll try it. Along this line, I enjoyed this web site written by a previous christian fundamentalist. I saw so many parallels in myself and it is part of what started me on the road to "making sounds" about the obvious.

BLACK IS WHITE: the FAILED prophecies of the WATCHTOWER Society
by Terry inthere is only one way to tackle the issue of failed prophecy as regards watchtower publications and their own public response to the failure of their predictions and pronouncements to come true.
miller was wrong, there was no doubt about it.
but, when the watchtower does it --it means just the opposite!

XJWMS - I love how they write that about god not communicating directly with anyone today, but still teach that the "holy spirit" guides the organization. How? I often ask that. Just because they say there is a difference between the two ideas doesn't make it so! Exactly how does the spirit guide them? I argue with my wife about this all the time. If they just came out and said the JW's are just a group of well meaning people who are trying to interpert the bible as best they can, then people could decide for themselves. But instead they still claim they are god directed without god communicating with them. It makes my head explode!

How Their Stupidity Supported My Faith
by metatron ina very long time ago, when i was in bethel, i sat at george gangas' table for lunch.
as usual, he peppered us with questions about.
bible history or prophecy.

Ditto the way they treat doctrines differently in different countries (i.e neutrality, blood, etc.). Although Ray Franz open our eyes to a world we would not have known, after he left the secrets have continued to be revealed because people internationally can share their experiences.

Comments that made feel pity at last Sundays WT study
by drew sagan ini believe it was paragraph 17, the one that spoke about the faithful slave and how there are those who wish to be "independent" and that this is wrong.
two comments came, both from elders.
elder 1: so what the paragraph is telling us is that instead of developing an independent spirit we actually want to be developing a spirit of dependece upon god's organization and the spiritual food they provide.

How come your Moms not here at your birthday party?
by mjarka911 inwell it's been a bittersweet weekend.
all week i have been feeling low about not having any family to be with (mom/dad/sisters all shun me since my da).
or the second year now i planned and carried out my son's birthday party.

Thanks for your comments Carla. The worst part is trying to reason with my wife about birthdays. After each point she brings up for not celebrating, I politely explain why it doesn't make sense. Then she moves to the next point. After the last one she says - "well taken all together - it's just not a good idea". The fog that this cult keeps you in is maddening!
