What Would YOU Have Done Differently For Hurricane Relief?
by minimus inthere's a lot of criticism from all sides.
what do you think should've been done?

I'm a firefighter who has helped formulate plans for the northern Illinois area, and one glaring mistake that I saw was that they identified the Superdome and Civic center as temp housing years ago in their FEMA approved disaster plans and never prepositioned food, water and supplies at these locations.

Hey Texas Apostate: What is the culpability of Bush in your opinion? Why do we even have a FEDERAL emergency management agency if not to coordinate emergencies beyond the scope of any one location? Whatever happened to the Buck stops here?

Exit from the JWs
by KAYTEE inmy exit from the jws, was roughly as follows-
our final letter to the congregation was in the form of a resignation.
we made at least 15 to 20 copies and sent the majority of them to so-called friends, 2 days later we sent the original to the body of elders.

I'm sorry Kaytee for the way you were treated. There was a thread yesterday about a recent WT article about the American sect called Mennonites. Some of them "responded to the truth" and were shunned by their community. The article talked about how cruel this was! Can you believe it?! I also had many doubts that my elder friends could not answer. When I realized I simply didn't believe this stuff anymore - my Mother, Father and Sisters immediately shunned me along with my friends of over 20 years. I haven't heard from any of them in almost 2 years. I've come to realize that you can't dismiss the claims of Cult. Remember when you were in the org and defended it by saying that a cult worships a man, but JW's follow God? Now I can clearly see that that is not true. When a WT article comes out that makes you completely change your position on a matter or when men can convince you to abandon your own son because he doesn't believe exactly like you do - then you are in a high mind control cult. It doesn't matter if the leaders have good intentions or truly believe what they are teaching, the methods prove cult status. I hope upon hope every day that my wife, family and friends open their eyes to the facts someday. Maybe the closer we get to 2014 there will be another mass exodus!

JWs are not a cult................
by vitty in...............or so i thought.
when you were an active jw, how did you feel when ppl accused you of being a cult !!!!!!!!!
and do you think its a cult now your out ?

Absolutey! When you change your views based on the latest WT magazine flip/flop; when you sacrafice family for senseless restrictions; when you are ready to allow your children to die to adhere to the latest rendition of the no blood policy (like allowing almost all the components themselves; but not blood)...sorry to tell you, but: YOU ARE IN A CULT!!!!

DID YOU KNOW THIS about the BIBLE?
by Terry inthe oldest manuscripts are not considered the most reliable.. there are no "autograph" texts.
none.. there are no "original" manuscripts.. no two manuscripts agree.. the bible as we know it only came together in the form it now holds because certain men decided it should do so.. neither jesus nor his apostles or disciples carried bibles.. the apostle paul didn't carry a bible and none of his letters were in any of the scrolls considered holy scripture at the time he was preaching and forming christian theology as it is now understood to be.. largely, what the bible is today, is the result of certain men with certain agendas who had the authority to make their project happen.
they also had the power to destroy writings which did not agree with their agenda.

michelle - I can't speak for terry; but you can't assume people are here because they are searching for the answer to the human condition. I want nothing to do with your god, but I still have many friends and family stuck in this cult who are willing to sacrafice common sense for their version of God.

I think it will always come down to being a matter of faith. The godly inspiration of the bible or even god himself cannot be proven, only believed. I was taught from infancy that the bible was inerrant and the faithful slave was god's channel of communication. Both of these claims proved to be false. So I have no basis for faith in these things.

Another 607 / 587 BCE question, How do JW's fix the 20 years ??
by run dont walk inok, since all the evidence and people/scholars etc, all agree that jerusalem was destroyed in 587/586 bce and not 607 bce.
how do the jw's get the extra 20 years, i understand the 2520 years and going back from 1914. but alot of the proof goes by adding up the kings reigns, and it gets you to the 587/586 date, do jw's simply add on a few years for each king, or is their a mystery king that ruled for 20 years that only they know about.. hhhhhhmmmmmmm.
hope my question makes sense.

1914 is one of many predictions by Russel. But if you throw enough S*#@ at the wall, it's bound to hit something. That something was the start of WWI, so they have to cling to that date like a baby to mommy's tit. If someone predicted the end of the world for every year leading up to 2001 - he would say, "look - something pivitol happened (9/11). I must be the chosen one!
