Male or Female
by love2Bworldly ini have been reading over the forum today and something hit me.
because i don't look up everyone's histories, there are people i assumed were either male or female--partly based on their avatar and partly based on the type of comments they make.
well guess what folks--i was shocked to find out i was wrong about a few people.. does anyone else out there decide that certain posters are male or female, and then find out they're wrong?

HAHAHA, ROFL, i suppose being brought up on a diet of Hollywood movies, a family study which consisted of listening to cassettes of droning American voices doing the Bible readings and the famous District Convention Drama miming-trick, tends to give us the impression that they are constantly acting.
There was an American couple who stayed in our house for a couple weeks when i was like 6 (they were complete strangers, but hey, who cares, they're in the troof). Only after meeting them did it occur to me that people actually spoke like that.
On the other hand, i really did like the accent of the brother who did the recordings for the "Listening to the Great Teacher" book. You know the little pink one for the kids? I can't remember his name but he also did the narration for the "Warning Examples for our Day" video. He had a kind of Scoto-American, "Mrs. Doubtfire" thing going on there. "RRRight childrrren, wud ye like ta set on Jesus' knee?"... "Yeeeeeees!!" -

"some" before a number.
"There are some 6 million witnesses in some 234 lands offering books comprising of some 192 pages...."
Yes "some" before numbers also drives me crazy...
the use of the word "glean" drives me up the wall, (what did we GLEEEEEN from this weeks study, brothers?)...
"how" not used as a question (and exessive use of the subjunctive tense) gets on my nerves... (HOW ungrateful the Isrealites were for Jehovah's continuing undeserved kindness on their part; HOW sad it would be, if suchlike ones were to draw away from serving jehovah; HOW grateful we are that Jehovah's eathly organisation has seen fit to provide us with food at the proper time)
and "ones" always annoys me too...
young ones
honest-hearted ones
teachable ones
meek ones
such ones
upright ones
faithful ones
wise ones
unwise ones
wicked ones
little ones
bless-ed ones
suchlike ones
these latter ones -

Question: Is there anything in the Bible that reveals the origin of the Negro?
Answer: It is generally believed that the curse which Noah pronounced upon Canaan was the origin of the Black race. Certain it is that when Noah said, 'Cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren,' he pictured the future of the Colored race. They have been and are a race of servants, but now in the dawn of the twentieth century, we are all coming to see this matter of service in its true light and to find that the only real joy in life is in serving others; not bossing them. There is no servant in the world as good as a good Colored servant, and the joy that he gets from rendering faithful service is one of the purest joys there is in the world.

CAN THE ETHIOPIAN CHANGE HIS SKIN?
We answer, No. But all will admit that what the Ethiopian cannot do for himself God could readily do for him.
...which color of skin was the original? The answer is now provided. God can change the Ethiopian's skin in his own due time.
Prof. H. A. Edwards, Supt. of Schools in Slater, Mo., has written for the public press an elaborate description of how Julius Jackson, of New Frankfurt, Mo., a negro boy of nine years, began to grow white in September, 1901, and is now fully nine-tenths white. He assures us that this is no whitish skin disease; but that the new white skin is as healthy as that of any white boy, and that the changed boy has never been sick and never has taken medicines.

Suppose a missionary and his wife removed to China; not only would the influence of the climate and soil be manifested upon themselves, but the same would be still more manifested in their children. Whoever will give careful attention to this matter will notice that each succeeding child born in that foreign country will have increasingly resemblance to the Chinese — the hair, the skin, the shape of the eyes, and in general all features will bear closer resemblance with each succeeding child. We can readily suppose that if so much change occurs in a few years, ten or twenty centuries under similar conditions would turn any white people into regular Chinese, even supposing there were no intermarrying.

While it is true that the white race exhibits some qualities of superiority over any other, we are to remember that there are wide differences in the same Caucasian (Semitic and Aryan) family; and also we should remember that some of the qualities which have given this branch of the human family its preeminence in the world are not such as can be pointed to as in all respects admirable....The secret of the greater intelligence and aptitude of the Caucasian undoubtedly in great measure is to be attributed to the commingling of blood amongst its various branches; and this was evidently forced in large measure by circumstances under divine control.

Honestly, do you think that JW's really like going to 3 or 4day assemblies?
by JH in.
honestly, do you think that jw's really like going to 3 or 4 day assemblies, especially when it's out of town, far away, and you have to take a motel room, and all the gas money and food money it takes, as well as having to sit down all day listening to endless talks...and that for 3 or 4 days in a row.. and often, they have to take a day off from work, to attend the friday meeting, so no pay for that day.. i think that the jw's are glad when it's finally over, not before.. .

I hated Circuit Assemblies but i liked District Conventions. At least i THINK i enjoyed them. It's hard to distinguish between my own feelings and the doublethink reaction of those swept up in such "a fine banquet of upbuilding spiritual food delivered at the proper time", (wine on the dregs and oiled dishes with bone marrow, ewwww).
As a teenager (not so long ago), the only talk i'd take notes on was the one about "young ones", because when the convention was over, my parents used to ask me taxing questions about which talk i found most upbuilding and what specific point i was going to 'gleen' from the program. (I hate that word 'gleeeeen', "Brothers and sisters, what are we going to 'gleeeeen' from this talk?" *shudder*).
Actually, when i think back honestly, i hated conventions, but not as much as i detested meetings.
Highlights:
1. Sitting the whole convention with my binoculars making jokes with my cousins;
2. Mocking the veracity of the experiences of "young ones" who showed a courageous Joseph-like attitude by rejecting the advances of hoards of gorgeous "members of the opposite sex" (a HUMAN female actually finds YOU attractive? yeah right, you spotty pre-pubescent freak);
3. Lunchtime - I remember having to use those food tokens to buy those packed lunches at Twickenham and Crystal Palace. (Is that a good thing?!? - oh i'm all confused);
4. Watching as the weird wild birds who landed on the central green, *sqarked* in protest towards the speaker;
5. The new release, which i ended up not reading until we did it in the book study. Although, i did read the Daniel's Prophecy book in two days. (At the time i thought it was flawless reasoning);
6. Waiting patiently for the drama... waiting IMpatiently for the drama... waiting impatiently for the pre-drama talk to end... waiting impatiently for the boring "modern-day" bit of the drama to end... watching my friend come onto the green with a period costume and start speaking with an american accent and gesturing in a disturbingly unnatural fashion... cursing the brother seated in front of me for standing up to take a photo at THE VERY MOMENT the demon is cast out (DAMN, i missed it). -

The EU and WTS prophecy
by dorayakii inthe european union does not exist on the american political landscape.
at a time when many foreign-policy experts are looking toward a multipolar world with the eu and china as two of the important poles, when foreign-policy issues are more important in the u.s. presidential election than at any time in recent memory, george w. bush has not even mentioned the eu in any speech given in 2004. not once.

When i was a child i was scared stiff with all the screaming going on. Jezebel falling out the window and being ripped apart by wild dogs, (Jehovahs deep comforting american voice), Noah's flood victims screaming as they drown in My Book of Bible Stories, (Jehovahs deep comforting american voice), Egyptian children screaming as Jehovah's angel massacres the innocent first-born, *then Satan getting revenge in Matthew 2:16*, (Jehovahs deep comforting american voice).
......When the SCREAMS begin, those around Moses draw back in FEAR while Amzi struggles as though trying to get back to the other side but cannot. The crowd of Dathan and Abiram shake a little as though the earth is TREMBLING under them. On the prolonged SCREAM, they all stagger back a step or two and fall simultaneously as though falling into a pit. They lie quietly (DEAD) until the Narrator finishes. Moses and those around him stand in HORROR.
“So down they went, and all who belonged to them, ALIVE INTO SHEOL, and the earth went covering them over, so that they PERISHED from the midst of the congregation. And a FIRE came out FROM JEHOVAH and proceeded to consume [Korah and] the two hundred and fifty men offering the incense. They perished in the rebellious talk of Korah! Too bad for them!"......
*Deep american voice gives scene more dramatic impetus* (Think how petrifying all this is for a 5-year old child.) I even remember one convention at Crystal Palace, London. It was raining, and the brother was giving a talk from Revelation about how the sun would darken, the moon turn to blood and the stars would fall to earth. His words were conveniently punctuated by thunderclaps. Needless to say, after having sat a whole day being poked by my parents to "keep notes to help me stay awake" i was absolutely petrified.
Theme of this years District Convention "Godly Obedience" aka, "Obey the Society, or else"
