I'm pretty sexually liberal myself. It's been interesting actually becoming friends w/ lesbians/homosexuals, because it's been engrained in my mind that it's wrong, yet once you get to know homosexuals you understand it's not a "sexual perversion" at all - they are really attracted to the same sex. I never comprehended that until I left. And I honestly can't see why they should be persecuted for something they cannot help. They are just as homosexual as we are heterosexual or bi-sexual, so it's not fair to discriminate.

funny how you said your parents asked if "he is black." They claim to not be predjudice but when it effects their own family, boy..watch out. My family associated w/ all types of nationalities, but when it came down to me dating another race, my father gave me quite the speech on all the hardships I'd encounter in a mixed marraige. WHATEVER. True there can be hardships, but it's nothing nearly close to what he had it cracked up to be. At least not yet. :-P

For the life of me I still can't understand why they DF'd you. You're HELPING people....??? Keep up the good work. I mean, I do understand why (to protect their "unblemished" name) but it seems to me that disfellowshipping you blemishes their name more than the obvious fact that there are molesters among their ranks. Or maybe I'm just being too logical.
I've particulary found the outraged letters from current JW's to the GB very very interesting - keep them coming!!

I spent this past Xmas w/ my girlfriend and her family, and let me tell you - it was SO NICE! All it is is a special time to think of those you love and surprise them with something you think they can use and will appreciate. And now that her family is spread all over, it's a great opportunity for everyone to come together and catch up on things. It was truly a wonderful event - there was nothing religious or pagan about it at all. How anyone could think that what we did was wrong in God's eyes is beyond me...

this is exactly why i just left and didn't bother with the whole disfellowshipping nonsense. My dad has repeatedly encouraged be to "be a man" and face up to the brothers and get DF'd, but I don't want to go through all of that craziness. I wonder how they feel about this article....I can't understand how so many Witnessess just go along with this. It goes against my human nature to completely shun my own family because they don't believe the same way I do - is it me or is that just not incredibly absurd???

I hear ya on the field service thing for sure. I was at Bethel for 5 years, and let me tell ya....they told us that Bethel came first, so that's what I did. I worked a LOT of overtime; one summer I worked 2.5 weeks straight. But boy did my congregation *NOT* understand. Their attitude towards Bethelites was anything but positive. I hated it. We were never doing enough for them. My attitude was that I put my time in before Bethel - 90 freaking hours a month for over a year, thank you very much. I deserved a break. Not to say preaching on the streets of Ebbets Field is not the most pleasant experience in the world. Never been used to the ghetto, never will. Ugh...I could write for days on this...
I don't hate JW's, but I am pretty bitter about a lot of things. I just wish my family would see the "light."

all i can say is that i hear ya on the hypocrisy part. My biggest thing right now is the scripture they use all the time, about how fornicators and greedy people will not inherit the kingdom. So quick to pounce on the fornication part, yet nobody ever talks about greediness, now do they? Yet, it's on the same level as fornication. What's so hypocritical about that is this: I have a family member that I loaned a pretty sizable sum of money to 2 years ago, after I left the organization. Granted he hasn't returned one penny, yet every time I see him, he has new clothes, a new video camera, new everything. He has an excellent job as well - has he made one effort to repay what he PROMISED he would? No. Yet, he comes to me, trying to convince me I need to come back because I'm the one in spiritual despair. WHATEVER! Anyways, yeah...i'm pretty upset these days...i look forward to reading more posts here - it helps knowing others share my same frustrations.
