Glad you and your family are all okay, Purps. In one of the pictures you took there were two huge trees that were litterally snapped off at the trunk, and I can't imagine how much force it took to do that. Thanks God you are all okay.

supposedly, according to the watchtower teachings, jesus came back in 1919 to examine all religions.
(and of course chose the w.t.
"religion" as the one closest to the "truth").
That makes a lot of sense, Wuzlov. I never looked at it that way before. Thanks.

Moshe, I think after a few beers, I might be able to make some sense out of that, too.
This reminds me of something I read about called "Are cats for Christians?" and is located in "Shaun's research/jwfacts" web site.
Kind of on the same circular reasoning idea. I don't know how to post it here, but it's funny.
I am pleased that j.w.'s can't prove this question. Now I have to get busy and re-read "Captives of a Concept", and set up my research information before meeting up with this guy again.

Then what would a j.w. give as an answer to "What proof is there that Jesus came back in 1919 and chose the Watchtower "religion" to be the one true relioion"?

Thanks, Bonm. I bought "Captives of a Concept" by Don Cameron a few years ago, and read it thoroughly at the time. Looks like I need to re-read it.
I still have it, bought it from "Lulu.com", I think, for that same amount. I will read it again.
However, I doubt they used any bilblical evidence for their proof. Am I right?

Supposedly, according to the Watchtower teachings, Jesus came back in 1919 to examine all religions. (and of course chose the W.T. "religion" as the one closest to the "truth"). Is this correct?
Well, what proof OUTSIDE THE WATCHTOWER TEACHINGS is there for this statement? Is there any? Any Bible basis for this second coming and inspection?
If not, then how would a J.W. prove it ever happened?
This is very important to me, because I want to ask a j.w. that I befriended, this question.
Thanks for any advice.

i had an appointment at the v.a.
hospital this morning.
while in the waiting room, i saw a watchtower brochure, so i picked it up, and put it in my pocket, so no one could read this trash.. when i got home, i looked it over for any good tidbits, and discovered a "quote" from the w.t.
I had an appointment at the V.A. Hospital this morning. While in the waiting room, I saw a Watchtower brochure, so I picked it up, and put it in my pocket, so no one could read this trash.
When I got home, I looked it over for any good tidbits, and discovered a "quote" from the W.T. that I think resorts to trickery, and twisting of words and meanings. Here's the quote in question.
Okay, it looks like it didn't copy/paste to the forum, so I will type the exact quote. (Bold print mine). The brochure is called..."Do you have an immortal spirit?"
In one paragraph it says...."Consider, for example, what the Scriptures say about Jesus' death. The gospel writer Luke relates:"Jesus called with a loud voice and said:"Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit." When he had said this, he expired. (Luke 23:46). As Jesus' spirit went out of him, he was not literally on his way to heaven. JESUS WAS NOT RESURRECTED FROM THE DEAD UNTIL THE THIRD DAY. AND IT WAS 40 MORE DAYS BEFORE HE ASCENDED TO HEAVEN. (Acts 1:3,9) At the time of his death, however, Jesus confidently left his spirit in his Father's hands, fully entrusting in Jehovah's ability to bring him back to life.
Note how the Watchtower doesn't say.......before HIS SPIRIT ascended to heaven.
Is this a trick to make worldly people think they believe that Jesus bodily ascended to heaven after 40 days? Because, this is not what they teach. And, later, once the potential convert is in their grips, will state that Jesus' body didn't resurect to heaven, only hie spirit?
What do you think? Trickery?

you may not remember, but i know you very well.
i met you a long time ago when you came to my house with your smiling faces, your neat clothes, and your soft voices, and a bible tucked neatly under your arm.
you told me many beautiful stories of a "paradise earth," and a "righteous new system" which would be established shortly.
Dear Cinda,
I've been on this forum for 5 years. Once I found this letter on the internet, I made and make it a point to post it at least once or twice a year, so new people on this board can read it. I have also seen others post it, also. It is a very powerful letter, well written, and anyone who researches the Watchtower Society, can see the truth in this letter.
I have copies "on hand" to "place" whenever I find the right opportunity to do so. I still get choked up when I read it, even though I have read it many times before. This is a great tool to help J.W.'s and worldly people see the hypocrisy in the cult. The shunning and blood issues are on the top of my most hated list of Jehovah Witness teachings.
Cinda, if Gaila is able to understand this, thank her for me and for all of us here for a superb letter. Tell her it isn't written in vain. I'm sure many others are using it to help get their loved ones out of this dangerous cult.
Thank you so much for letting us know about Gaila. I have done searches on the net to try to find out where she is, and what happened to her. I am so sorry to hear she had a stroke, and so sorry her children are still stuck in that cult. I am happy to hear that her grandaughter is sharing time with her now, but it's so sad that her own daughter shuns her own children now.
Thank you again for letting us know about Gaila. I'm happy to see that she has a sister like you to be by her side through this. She is fortunate to have you there.

everyone knows our dear mouthy.
she's modified her living arrangements lately... has moved to an "assisted living" facility... on monday, and is still going thru a period of adjustment... .
if there are any of you who live near mouthy.
Mouthy, you take it easy! You've been through a lot. Moving, especially at "our " age, is very stressful, and tiring. Take a break, and post when you feel up to it.
We'll be here. I wish I lived closer, because I would have helped you move. I just finished moving my daughter and hubby to their "new" home, so I have lots of experience. LOL !!
Although, I know there is probably more unpacking to do, it can wait. Just try to relax, be thankful it's pretty well over, and we'll catch you later.
