Some do, and some don't stephanie.
My father-in-law mentioned a few years back that my brother-in-law doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, but a week after Thanksgiving, he sees him come in with a turkey.
I wonder if you can get disfellowshipped for celebrating Thanksgiving?

The first holiday of the season is coming up soon, and I was wondering why J.W.'s don't celebrate it.
It's not a Bilbical event, as far as I know. It's supposed to be the celebration of giving thanks for being in this "new world". And if you are giving thanks to God, isn't that still going along with the Bible and thanking God for you blessings?
Unless the j.w.'s don't thank God anymore. Maybe they only thank the org.? And why not on Thanksgiving?
Are they afraid we might worship the turkey?

JW Spouse problems
by marcosgarcia ini am not a jw, my spouse is getting way into it -- 4 times a week.
i am not sure what she is doing - and i am not interested in jw -- it is not for me or my children.
a sister was coming to my home -- without my consent and giving a "study" to my children.

Marcos, How old are your children?
Research the Watchtower, and show your kids the proof of all the lies, before they get too deep in it, themselves. I think you need to put a buffer between what your wife and the j.w.'s are trying to teach your kids, and what you want them to believe.
By planning a meeting with my daughter and her husband who is studying with the j.w.'s, I was definitely able to keep my other daughter out of it.
Why?... because she wasn't influenced by them yet, and so she helped me get my material together for my talk, thereby seeing all the lies that the w.t. are full of...(among other things). Because once they agree to stop listening to all the adverse information on it, it's going to be very hard to get thru to your kids.
Start talking to them about it now. Don't wait.
I hope this helps. If it doesn't, I hope someone else can come up with something better.
Sorry to hear you are going thru this.

'Neath The Tower Of Fear: Video
by Corvin ini put this little video together to get my mind of recent events.
it sort of expresses my disenchantment and awakening since leaving the organization.
i hope you enjoy it.

That was super, corvin !!
I hope I can put that on one video, instead of two. I really think I can use that in my quest to work on getting my daughter and her hubby away from the clutches of the org.
It took me about a half hour each, to download, but it was worth the wait....Thanks.
Hubert.

I have an idea . . . and forgive me if this has already been suggested
by cruzanheart init always annoys me to see the latest copies of the watchtower & awake!
magazines when i go visit my mom at the nursing home.
i don't feel comfortable throwing them away, since it's not my "house" but i feel the need to make a statement.

I found an Awake and Watchtower magazine in the waiting room of a v.a. hospital, no less!! There was no trash can in the room, and I would have looked like an idiot taking it into the dr.'s office with me, so I did nothing, except try to hide them under some other mags.
If I had some stickers on me, I would have loved to put one on each mag. What a great idea, cruzanheart !!
Mind if I make up some of my own?

Were you illegally disfellowshipped?
by hubert inbased on "official" bible based doctrine, were you "illegally disfellowshipped?
i have been reading many threads on disfellowsipping, and it makes me wonder if there were many who were disassociated, or thrown out of the org.
for reasons other than what the watchtower officially teaches?
-
hubert
nb-dfed.... IMHO, that certainly isn't a "legal" reason to disfellowship you. It looks like the w.t. uses any reason at all to keep the flock in line.
actress_nic.... Welcome to the board, as I see this is your first post.
If you create your own (story) thread, others will know you are here, and welcome you into the forum. I am fairly new here too, and I am learning a great deal about how the "org." really treat their members. I thought I knew a lot about it before I came here, and found out I have only scratched the surface.
I have a daughter who is in Bible study with the j.w.'s, and I'm trying my best to make her see that it is just a cult. Not much progress yet, but I'm working on it, and because of these fine people in this forum, I'm coming up with new ideas all the time.
nb-dfed and actress_nic... Can I ask if you were shunned by your family because of the disfellowshipping, and how it affected you at the time?
Thanks for your response..... Hubert

Thanks for all your replies, friends.
Especially:
Gumby... for the "official" rules.
Merrymagdalen... for the Bible quotes.
And all the others who replied with your comments.
I was also wondering how shunning also affected your lives, because of being Df'd.
I am trying to see if there is a relationship between the shunning and disfellowshipping, if it goes hand and hand.
Thanks......Hubert
